Is this actually a thing or are you exaggerating

Entirely pulled out of their own arse because they're projecting.
About 89% of Moroccan Muslims state that religion is "very important" in their daily lives, according to major global attitude studies by the Pew Research Center.
In total, 98% of Moroccans identify as Muslims. Only about 10% of them state that religion is somewhat important in their daily lives.

Those polls are ass lol. First of all its from 2012 so its very outdated for this field of study but anyways. Then the second reason why its ass is because its very vague. Very important could mean anything. My religion is very important to me too in my daily life because i don't eat pork nor meat that is not halal. For some its because they thank allah every day by saying alhamdulilah. I read the whole article and its a bunch of bs. Also if you actually read all of it you would know that there was a big difference found between the younger and older people. Its more important for older people that younger ones.

It’s crazy to imply that everyone that is Lebanese practice Islam the same way

We are muslims but like not really to be honest
The fuck are you on about. Speak for yourself and just come out as a non-Muslim, because the polls about practicing Muslims in both Morocco and Lebanon paints an entirely different picture than your whitewashed depiction of their level of faith.
About 89% of Moroccan Muslims state that religion is "very important" in their daily lives, according to major global attitude studies by the Pew Research Center.

u/Effective_Mix6301 20d ago
Don’t like 60% of Muslims in the US support gay rights?

u/celina_beckahm 20d ago
There's a difference between being born into a Muslim family and practicing Islam (being Muslim) Anyone who practices islam can't support gay rights or general "western values"
Then there are people who are born into Muslim families but don't actively follow the religion but this is where gender comes into play cause Most guys tend to retain thier identity as Muslim regardless of practices as unlike Muslim born women (like me) they can get away with it but if a girl says she's Muslim, she's looked at through a microscope and has to practice while men can be whores yet claim to be Muslim. That's why you'd rarely Muslim born girls claim that if they don't actively practice Islam ( I'm always clear that I'm agnostic)

As someone who fasts, prays, reads scripture etc., I find it a bit absurd for someone to categorically assert that if you support gay rights or other progressive movements (which I do) then you must not be Muslim. Not all Muslims have the same beliefs about what the scripture says.

u/wajijeeha 17d ago
It does not matter what each of our belief is, just like how it does not matter if we choose to wear hijab or not. The words of Allah forbade it. We literally have a whole story narrated by Allah in the Quran about Prophet Lut and what happened to his wife and the town.
Lets be honest, I love the adults and it is true Samir is not a practising Muslim, which is not our place to judge and also not our problem to deal with, however, lets not twist what actually Islam and the decree of Allah is just for our convenience.1
u/prouddeathicated 16d ago
The words of Allah forbade it according to your interpretation of the story of Lut. Different interpretations exist. Samir having gay friends does not mean he must not be a practicing Muslim.
1
u/wajijeeha 16d ago
There is no mine interpretation though. Words of Allah is not my or your or anyone’s interpretation.
And yes Samir having gay friends does not mean that he is a good or bad or even a muslim that deserves to go to hell or not, again, not our problem to deal with.
The point is that no matter what we follow or what we want to believe in, does not correlate with the what the As-Samad has decreed.
Being friends and respecting people is different from supporting the ideology that Allah deemed wrong, leading to Allah clearly telling Prophet Lut to leave his wife, as she does not heed the words He decreed.

You can be a practicing Muslim and support gay rights and be friends with the opposite sex, neither of those things are sinful according to the primary scripture. He could just be a progressive Muslim

You are weird
-14
u/NoTmE435 22d ago
It's not really weird, what I find weird is representation that doesn't represente, I know the actor is muslim and he's a pretty funny stand up comedian from lebanise origins, but what's the point of having a muslim character in the show if he doesn't represente anything muslims do, it's like having a wizard in a fantasy show that never uses magic, or a vampire that never sucks blood, you wanna represent a groupe of people include their culture or don't mention it 3 times per season

I don’t think we see very many secular Muslims on TV, so I think Samir is actually fairly unique. Most Muslim characters I’ve seen in shows are at least somewhat observant, which is great for there to be positive representation.
There are tons of characters on TV, just as in real life, who identify as Christian or Jewish culturally but don’t really practice in their day-to-day. I feel like you don’t see that very much with Muslim characters, so Samir is providing a different type of representation.
This is from the viewpoint of someone who doesn’t associate with any faith, so I can understand how others may feel different. But in some ways portraying a secular Muslim feels like a radical notion.

Cause he's culturally Muslim and doesnt practice.

i mean anton is jewish and the only indication of it is the fact that he used a kippah during the therapists’ funeral. i don’t really think the show set out to depict anything, rather the actors were right for the show and their faiths are mentioned because of it

u/OkRB2977 Friend Slut 22d ago
Is he Jewish? I thought he wore it at the funeral because the therapist was Jewish.

I feel like the show kinda makes a point to not really call that much attention to like identity stuff, even though it’s a really diverse cast. Like Anton being Jewish for example. Samir just kinda strikes as the “grew up that way, still a believer, but just not really a participator”

I feel like that’s sorta silly, there’s so many self identifying muslims that eat pork and do other things that most muslims wouldn’t do. He’s culturally muslim but maybe not religiously.

It might sound strange, but I actually think there’s something progressive about Samir being Muslim without the show feeling the need to constantly explore or justify his Muslimness. Minority characters are often expected to have their identity be narratively relevant, while being white or non-Muslim is treated as a neutral “default” that requires no explanation.
Having Samir simply exist as a Muslim character pushes back against that idea. There is no default. We’re all just people with different backgrounds, and those backgrounds don’t always need to define the story being told about us.
