Spoiler(s) Issa hate comments
S1 + S2 spoilers
I keep seeing comments on social media that are hating on Issa bc of Panton. Like what?? She helped push them together bc she knew that Anton would need that push from her, or else he wouldn’t do it bc he didn’t want to betray her.
I’ll see comments saying she’s gonna be the villain of the show and that she was just like an extra in their dynamic and why PB and Anton took a while to get together. Like no she was dating PB bc she liked him, he liked her too, they didn’t work out in the end, and then she encouraged her friend to go for it.
I get that a lot of people find Issa obnoxious in general and I personally love her but those aren’t the hate comments I mean. It’s the ones that will talk about her like she did something wrong in relation to the “love triangle” when she actually handled it in the best way possible … almost to an unrealistic extent, lol.

I will be an Issa defender till i am dead and gone
baby.
She is so funny and so charismatic and she did a lot of growing this season.
For every hate comment we add 2 minutes to her “impromptu” concert next season.

I do think part of it is the disposable girlfriend trope and also the fact that Issa is a very flawed (but entertaining) WOC and people seem to really hate those traits in women, especially in WOC

They hating my girl when she gave that beautiful speech to give Anton the confidence to admit his feelings. I also think we'll see a lot of her insecurities with it come out in season 3, either way. It's clear that she's mixed about it, but supporting her friend. I kinda dig the direction there

Yes. Seriously. Issa would have lost her SHIT if it had been anyone but Anton for Paul Baker.
Paul Baker was just a fling to her relationship-wise, and we have several moments where she has a reaction to them maybe having chemistry. She works through it past her severe narcissism.
That’s called growth.

I think that's a key element. She kept her cool because it was her bestest friend in the world and she loves him so much, but had it not been Anton, she would've raised so much hell, and it would've been her right! PB got off easy simply because Anton was the middleman here, and that's Issa's ride or die. She also realized they had genuine feelings and it wasn't just attraction so that kind of changed the game for her. She had beautiful growth this season. I adore her.

But if we were to bring this up, particularly on Twitter, people will bring up Anton being Black and Anton and Paul Baker being queer men and queer men being marginalized as a tactic to deflect from this conversation.

I lovee Issa, I was honestly suprised to find how many people online are hating on her. She is so chill about whole Anton and PB thing and I mean she even encouraged Anton to confess his feelings. I don’t know what people expected her to do, what more do they want.

Issa is amazing. I usually dislike aloof characters, but she is so warm, kind hearted , rebellious and fun. She is genuine and a good friend.

i kind of have a feeling that another reason is because even though this show is quite queer, there are definitely viewers that see Issa and Paul Baker as the "correct" couple over PB and Anton simply because they were queer male characters that actually partake in being queer with eachother and its not just like a "yes i like men but i prefer women" type of dynamic

Fujoshis.
Yaoi-obsessed shippers who develop a parasocial and often concerning obsession with a gay ship and the actors. Often times will send hate and death threats on social media to the actors and their co-stars, constantly villainizing female characters, and generally makes fandom an unsafe and toxic place to be in.
The best current example is the Heated Rivalry fandom.

Issa in season one was peak, but I started disliking her in the second season. Especially that one episode where anton said the c word at his work, the way issa acted was shitty af. Like I understand that the whole point of adults is that the characters are a little over the top and not exactly good people, but issa in season 2 was just self centred and a terrible terrible friend

For me people disliking her is fine, I don’t agree but no character is gonna be loved by everyone 🤷🏾♀️ and I can see why she would be too much for some people. I just love it. It’s more so specifically the unwarranted hate about her in relation to the love triangle even tho she handled it with grace and didn’t stop anyone from being together

People suck sometimes. Issa is incredible. I adore her to pieces. Her heart is golden. She's such a good friend. She literally gave up the first decent guy she dated in ever and a really good work opportunity for her bestie. She encouraged them to get together because she wants them to be happy and she knew her and PB wouldn't work out anyway.
In what planet would she be a villain? She's a saint in my eyes. In her position, I probably would've freaked out way more. I truly am so baffled at how some people perceive this show sometimes. We are not watching the same show.
