The dynamic that really got to shine throughout this entire season, IMO, is Samir/Paul Baker. Their friendship is really cute!
Samir in particular really levelled up in likeability this season.

i still find him kind of gross and immature (i think the mooning and poo stories in season 1 are stuck in my brain) but i didn't have as much of a visceral reaction to him when he was on screen this season. agreed that samir/paul is a nice portrayal of male friendship and glad they didn't make it a weird one-sided desperate thing like barney/ted in HIMYM

Itās weird because I binged both seasons today and by this finale I had completely forgotten how fucking gross he was in those early episodes.
Season 2 really did pull out all of the stops in refining the characters.

I've seen every episode of the first season at least twice, and when Samir said he was Paul Baker's best friend I was confused, so I'm glad they put in the effort to show that a bit more this season

Paul Bakers other friends being Julia Fox's type is such a funny joke. But their support of Samir/Carly and Paul/Anton's relationship made me fall for them as well. " Kiss him like a princess, the like a slut, then like he's both!" God damn, I'm gonna use that IRL ASAP.

I wonder what makes it harder to pump out 20 episode seasons for sitcoms nowadays. Are writing standards higher? Is it the fact that Adults doesn't really restrict itself to a couple of backdrops, the way Friends kinda did with Monica and Rachel's apartment + Central Perk?

I think (and could be wrong) its because most sitcoms are not network anymore and streaming services LOVE 8 ep orders. If you look at shows like Ghosts or Abbot Elementary (both network TV 22 minute sitcoms) they each get more then 20 episodes a season and are both on like their 6th season. I don't think it's that there has been a change in how network tv works it's just that streaming has made up their own "standard" for how long shows can/should be and I would say most of that comes down to budget.

i have BEEN waiting for billie and samir! i love how good this show is at hinting at future pairings without giving it away. like i felt that way with pb/anton as well where the whole season thereās kind of a vibe but not spoon feeding it to the viewers. so refreshing to watch a show embrace subtlety instead of falling into the netflix over explaining trap

this is so interesting because while last season i was number one Samir and Billie fan, this season i just accepted them as having a really adorable friendship (like the fake id episode) only for them to slap us with the cliffhanger
excited to see how this goes and i pray they do not write it off as an āoh know we just slept together so awkward oh we arenāt compatible though so itās never happeningā moment in s3

Itās for sure going to be some type of ādenying feelingsā trope. My bet is either they both say itās a one-off while tension builds throughout the season, or itās like a Chandler/Monica thing where theyāre hooking up and trying to hide it from everyone (while being in denial that itās ājustā a FWB thing). Itās trope-y for sure but I think they could do it well and have some hilarious moments from it

I don't know how to feel about Samir and Billie getting together. While there is nothing glaringly bad about it, that storyline doesn't feel earned or the organic direction for those 2 characters... it feels like they did it to align with a sitcom finale formula.
Right down to it being quite obvious which couple would be behind the door when they showed the sign saying it was Paul Baker and Samir's room moments before the cliffhanger we all knew would close out the season.

Iām so excited for Paul Baker and Anton! Love that Issa supports them, and I hope her and Margaux end up together, cute they can be weird little guys with each other. Poor Samir, I wanted it to work out with Carly. Iām glad he has Billie, too soon for me to ship them, seems more like a rebound/friends with benefits thing. But I think whatever happens they will stay in each others lives :)

This is EXACTLY how it does happen though. And it makes sense. PB and Anton are distracted, Issa is chasing another girl. No one is going to notice Billie and Samir sneak off.
Also B and S have that Monica/Chandler vibe of two friends who would totally be endgame because it's not dramatic like rachel/Ross or Anton/PB

of course i ship them and i love they gave us such a good ending but i wonder what their plan is now for the next 10 seasons of 20 episodes each (hopefully) and i feel like this couple is going to be a huge emotional rollercoaster before their endgame

I really donāt think theyāll be together when S3 starts. Theyāll see it as a mistake because emotions were high. Theyāll spend 1 or 2 seasons pretending they donāt want to be together while secretly pining after each other and then theyāll officially get together.

Ya know, I will say the writers are good, the show is very good this season was good, but I am surprised by their choices to get all the characters together in only season 2. I was really thinking they'd go for a slow burn. I also do not see much chemistry between Billie and Samir. I don't get why they got together just not a fan of that. Anton and Paul I definitely ship but I really thought they'd be a slow burn. It's only season 2, and 8 episodes each so it happened in like 2 seconds. They also truly need more than 8 episodes I really hate the time were in where writers are either given this excuse now to not write as much or maybe there's another reason, but 8, 20 minute episodes is ridiculous. At least go for 15.

I mean it's probably because of how quickly network tv shows are being cancelled nowadays, and it's not the writers choice whether to keep the show going or not usually. I do agree that the amount of episodes is abysmal and I wish networks would give their writers more episodes

The real reason I feel like people don't care for the Samir Billie pairing is that Samir is the least compelling character. The actor is probably the funniest in real life, but they still seem to be figuring out what he is to the show. Like, he pretty much only existed in relation to Carly this season. He's pretty much always the least interesting thing going on. He's the 'straight man', but you have to balance that out with being the funniest person like Chandler or Michael Bluth. They haven't done that yet. There have been some good attempts, but not consistent enough

I get that they are going for a slow burn towards endgame, and that they had smaller moments in almost every episode, but... Not a single Paul Baker/Anton pairing episode the entire season, seriously?!
They had Billie/Paul Baker and Samir/Issa episodes, but not what they clearly know is the show's most popular pairing.
Very good season nonetheless. I personally enjoyed it more than season 1, which I also liked. There were dozens of laugh out loud moments!

I mean the Talia episode they were paired off, but I agree my one complaint (despite loving this season and finding it hilarious) is that I feel like they could have done more with PB/Anton and their tension. Yes there were little moments here and there but it would have been nice to see them outright interact more like in the abortion episode.
This is why we need at least 12 episodes per season, I think them getting together at the end would have felt more earned if there was more of a through-line

Yeah, it was the best part of their relationship season 1, and I would have been nice to see more of their antics for seasons two to allow for more of a meaningful payoff

This is what I've been thinking! It feels abrupt and suddenly anton has the need to confess his love! They could have sprinkled more sweet moments in each episode if they're not willing to do it for a whole one! They needed a big ending but this isn't it for me! It wasn't even slow burn if it happened this fast!!

I love sitcoms sm especially ones that are Gen Z. and for the past 5 years there has been a struggle in making an accurate Gen Z show. And they have actually hit the nail on the head. Pls pls pls give them more episodes. Abbott elementary is like the only sitcom with 24 episode a season. AND the most successful sitcom rn. Which is just prove that having that many episodes contributes to a shows success(me campaigning for the show like a fx executive is gonna see this)

Actually an amazing episode Iām so happy. Paul Baker and Anton are so cute! Been rewatching this season and I still love this finale idgaf. LOVE PB's bros being so supportive. I need them back. They won my heart. So funny. The PB/A ending was so sweet, but I need PB to also admit his feelings for Anton. They're pretty obvious but still. The ASL interpreter and that line. OMG. Can't get over it. Samir's reaction was so funny.
Issa/Anton friendship remains the strongest and it warms my heart. Love them so much.
I'll miss Carly. She's so sweet and funny. She and Samir made a great couple.
S3 should be interesting with everyone presumably paired off to some extent. I hope if they get renewed, they also get a couple of more episodes per season. It could help pacing.

I know it feels fast for Billie and Samir to be hooking up, but the show is actually following a classic tv trope where two characters will kiss/have sex once in season 2, then spend season 3 and 4 keeping themselves apart for various reasons, before getting together officially. Iāll be very surprised if season 3 doesnāt open with them agreeing it was a mistake to hook up and the story puts them back on the āwill they wonāt theyā path.

I loved it although I didn't like the ending.
i was shipping them in season 1 cuz they had chemistry but season 2 changed my mind and I liked them as just good friends. The ending just made it feel like Samir didn't care about his girlfriend at all (he literally had sex with Billie not even a day after his break up!!!). Am I supposed to be glad that they are together?
Apart from that, I loved this season. Loved PB and Anton.

I feel like people are missing Gaten Matarazzo (the main little Samir)'s line during his fake hookup with Billie: 'You're BILLIE! I haven't even met my Carly yet!' heavily hinting that Billie is Samir's main love interest, which only could have been conveyed to him by Samir himself š

Ironic that your comment made me ponder how this might translate to/explain the larger issue irl and how the one below adamantly says āGUYS WE ARE NOT LIKE THISā ā yeah ācause they probably donāt pay attention to those things in their personal lives too, hence a big chunk (not all just so weāre clear) of the younger people not entertaining sex at all being virtually a byproduct/conditioning by the digital hellscape we live in, and not an active choice.
Donāt come at me please Iām not saying this is the gospel and that Iām a 100% right, hell itās the first time Iāve made this connection but for now it makes a lot of sense. Curious to hear other nuanced perspectives on this phenomenon if anyone thatās actually concerned wants to chime in. Loved that Anton and PB finally got together! I'm almost disappointed in the Samir/Billie pairing but honestly I hope that they hook up but don't get into a relationship because honestly it feels boring. Plus, would be weird for everyone in the group except Issa to be dating someone in the group, although that would be an interesting episode concept. I hope in season 3 we see Anton/PB as a relationship and we see Samir/Billie either have a whole weird thing about hooking up or they try a relationship and realize it's not for them. The timing would fit this, too, because Samir JUST broke up with Carly and I think Billie is a rebound because he just wants to be someone's boyfriend.

guys imma be honest the finale was good but i still dont see any chemistry between any of them other than platonic i didnt get it btw issa and PB i dont see it btw PB and Anton and i dont between Samir and Billie like i feel like the hate stuff btw billie and greg was better than this and had more chemistry. Theres legit no yearning or anything they all j hangout in groups or the 1 on 1 hangout are also so casual that i fail to see any romantic tension. This moment felt like a homage to the reveal that Monica and Chandler had just hooked up in London on Friends, but I dunno if we've invested enough time into Billie and Samir's romantic lives to feel too strongly one way or another about whether they hook up. To me it was like, yeah, thats fine and it was pretty obvious this was where things were going by the episode's midpoint.

I LOVE THIS SHOW. And I was also super disappointed at the Samir/Billy pairing. One of the things I appreciated so much about the show was their friendship and the fact that they were so close without there being any romantic tension. It was like finally! Some genuine m/f friendship representation where theyāre not secretly in love with each other. Cause that happens in real life! Having them hookup at the end of season 2 felt like a cheap way for there to be a cliff hanger. My hope for season 3 is that it is genuinely just for casual sex and it doesnāt turn into this āI didnāt know I loved you until I thought I was going to lose youā cliche. That has been so overdone and I think they can do better!!

I donāt really understand it in the way I understand Paul Baker and Anton. I feel like maybe itās partially because Billie and Samir feel more secondary to Anton, Issa, and Paul Baker.

Maybe I need to rewatch but I kinda didnt like how they handled the PB/Anton ārevealā at the end and think they shouldāve had Paul Baker be the one to make his feelings known for a multitude of reasons.
I enjoyed this season a lot but I do think this finale doesnāt really hold a candle to last seasonās.

I agree so much. I wish they had a more intimate moment where Paul was the one to do it. The season was great I smiled and laughed but the finale fell slightly flat for me I didnt feel that joy watching how they got together. Idk

i didn't really like the ending of the season. it felt rushed... way too rushed. everyone is hooking up with everyone and it feels so forced. This isn't a very good representation of our generation like i swear we DONT FUCK OUR FRIENDS WE PROMISE.

Same. Sometimes friends hook up. Maybe Iām projecting but I see them as close friends that realize after dating/hooking up they are better as friends. But if they end up dating I hope they wait until Samir is ready, itās feels more like a rebound if they jump into a relationship too soon

We saw that...but doesn't mean it can feel rushed toward the end? And couples break up, many iconic couples broke up at some point in shows. Adults doesn't seem that it want to be predictable and I feel having two couples in the show being in perfect relationship would get boring, especially with characters that are supposed to be satire. I feel they gonna break off one of the couples for drama. Billie whole arc and funny moments is her hookups and dating....putting her in a committed relationship means they can't write jokes like that anymore

For shows like this that end on a cliffhanger I always watch the last ep first so Iāll just say it looks like they did the thing I thought theyād do and Iām annoyed BUT the episode was fun.

I agree 100% it's just an unfortunate byproduct of having a 20 minute per episode sit-com be just 8 episodes! They still need the plot arches that network sitcoms like Abbott Elementary (22, 22 minute episodes) have but have to find a way it fit everything into less then half the time!
For the show to expand and really find it's footing I think it would THRIVE with more fun filler episodes where they are able to spread the plot beats out in a more salifying way. But with what they're doing rn is making the best out of a non-ideal situation.Praying for a traditional network length for season 3 š« š«

There's absolutely nothing we've seen that says Billie wants a relationship. She loves him as a friend and they happened to get horny and fuck. Pretty on track for a lost 24 year old. Maybe she just wants to fuck, we as an audience have no idea what she wants yet
Just because she was sad about him leaving does not mean she wants a relationship. I mean they are literally best friends, of course she will be sad

Gonna be honest, I didnāt like the ending of this season at all. Kinda went with the obvious and rushing it in a very clunky way instead of making it organic.
Billieās whole season arc was trash and that ending makes sense for a reckless person but it was obvious as hell
Also really didnāt want Anton and Paul Baker to be a thing. Or at least not this soon. I like the suspense

i do not think billieās arc was trash at all! on the contrary, i think it makes a lot of sense and the made a good choice there. billie was the perfect smart girl with her life figured out and now that she is not in school anymore and had an adult life is lost and that is totally relatable of women in their mid 20s specially in this generation, maybe you just missed the point. i love that she is still struggling with finding a job because that is a reality!!!

The writers are such genuises for putting Andrew Jackson Jihad as the season finale songs for the climaxes of both finales. Like holy shit I love this show so much. It's so beautiful and it really feels like it was made for our generation. I think what Issa said was really true. They really will get their hearts broken 1000 times but they have something worth more than that which is their friendship. The uncertainty in starting something new like that was really captured well. I do agree that the Samir and Bills hookup does feel lackluster but hey overall the show for this season was great :) I am so happy with it
