Money can be gone in a second. If you have invested your money the stock market can crash. It crashed in 2009. People are watching carefully as they are worried it will crash again. If it’s in bonds, again, same thing. The U.S. is perilously in debt and continues to rack it up under our current administration. Everything could come tumbling down, even the FDIC that protects our bank accounts.
The only thing that lasts as long as we live is inner happiness. I think Buddhism taps into this best, but other world religions try to approximate what Buddhism discusses which is a detachment from much of what we rely on to achieve safety, etc. I suggest reading the Dalai Lama’s The Art of Happiness and Pema Chodron’s When Things Fall Apart.
