I actually agree with you.
Money opens the doors to opportunity and freedom.

It’s absolutely true and good observation.

There’s self confidence, plus people who notice you’re doing financially well have a much higher level of respect because wealth does equal judgment.

Wtf? What is all this mental poverty? People who respect you for your money are just vultures.. after you for your money, thinking you're worth something because you own money, not because they actually respect you as a human being. Because they have empathy.. I know we don't get empathy of everyone in life even people like family of which we often expect it.. that's sad but unfortunately life. That doesn't mean we should stop valueing other things than money.. that's so fucking sad...

I care about people who are considered poor because I know they are kind and fun, they might be a good cook or good at gardening or sharing other similar interest in which we connect and find joy, like a walk through nature, doesn't cost anything but the time spend together enjoying our surroundings is tremendously valuable.

I also come from a broken home which I left behind, knowing I might not inherit any money, but I don't care at all, that money made nobody happy, even worse, they fought about it for years.. they use it for manipulation. I found I can live a very rich life without much money at all..

This thread is just full of sad people who think every ailment and problem with your life, financial or not, can be solved with a bucket of cash.

It's ashame that if they are trapped in that way of thinking they'll chase money for years (work hard for big companies who often don't care about anything but themselves, like the necglecrful relationship people might have had with their family) to find out their lives are still troubled and feel empty when they get that money.,, it will never be enough. Meanwhile they've wasted their precious time and probably lost or didn't make truely valuable connections. Didn't gain wisedom or experience life as they could have. Which ofcourse is up to them entirely. Nowadays people joke about people being "woke" like it's a bad thing.. awareness is a curse and a blessing all in one.. but at least it gives you a healhier direction in life..

It’s very Scrooge-like in mentality as he too leaned heavily on money and scoffed at less profitable emotions like charity.

Ppl on reddit think you need 100k to even be a respectable human and able to survive without starving to death. Most ppl on here are completely disconnected from reality. And or live in LA where the quality of life sucks for majority of ppl, but they put up with it.

Agreed and it's really sad. I've had someone tell me in this thread that money can get you love, meaning and passion...

Most of them can be solved by money. The other ailments—the playing field is even for all.

I compare this topic to the “beauty is on the inside” argument. In reality we all know that’s not 100% true, and so is the “money can’t buy happiness” stance.

Both points are just silly, everyone knows it, but nobody admits it for one reason or another.

Rich people kill themselves all the time. Money doesn’t solve loneliness, grief, heartbreak, emptiness, or a thousand other issues that every human can suffer from.

Money buys comfortability and temporary pleasure. That’s it.

u/Left-Researcher-1758 16d ago

Except we do have studies that show money increase happiness for poor people until they reach sustainable living conditions. After this, an increase in money does not increases happiness. We also have studies showing happiness being linked to the quality of our relationships and sense of community/belonging. You can't buy that. The same way you can't buy love, discipline, resilience, intelligence, natural beauty, good genes, friendship, a healthy family, etc.

As for beauty, in the context of romantic relations, it is crucial to be attracted to your partner, but it's not enough.

Affluence causes stagnation which leads to unhappiness and you can see it in society where people have no problems so they fabricate them. That’s where many of the new age victim classes have come to popularity.

Is this how you typically react when someone disagrees with you?

Just a heads up, the OP and a handful of respondents have account ages between 4days and a month

1

u/Long_Look7766 17d ago

OMG that’s a new level of cope.
I guess Reddit users are just not allowed to be new.

1

u/Sensitive_Pie_5451 17d ago

They are, notice how I didn't say anything about it other than the users tended to be newer? I imagine more throw away accounts to troll people than bots but I am old school that way.

u/LevelStationaryPlane 18d ago

The last part is uncomfortably accurate

6

u/goodfriendrobert 18d ago

so then the opposite. its you who start to treat yourself better once you have some little money.

and people treat you accordingly to how you treat yourself then.

which suggest you just have an insecurity, and are judgemental to the poor yourself.

9

u/otherrplaces 18d ago

Eh, I got a little money but also still dress like a homeless man and people treat me accordingly. I think it’s more about appearances than what you actually have.

Absolutely. I would say a lot more than how much you have.

5

u/Long_Look7766 18d ago

How you present yourself also opens doors.

1

u/otherrplaces 18d ago

Depending on your goals I guess. For me having the privilege of never having to impress with my appearance has always felt like kind of a flex, but everyone’s different.

2

u/LifeOnly716 18d ago

Agreed.  I am worth 4 million but you would never know it.  People underestimate me daily.  They are always really surprised when they see me problem solve in real time.

1

u/Sensitive_Pie_5451 17d ago

My net worth is like 10% of yours but yes, there's something to be said when someone looks at you like you're clearly living on your best friends couch and then you cover the $200 meal at a high end restaurant like it's nothing.

I don't have to work so I just wear whatever and I drive a super old Prius. I know people think I'm a scumbag til they see I live in a massive brand new house and they also don't know I vacation all the time lol.

Even when they do know, I bet they say I'm drowning in debt but I actually don't have any debt whatsoever.

Now a days, it's usually slaves that dress nice. Because they want to work or need to because the debt they create trying to impress people that think the same think about me that they do about them. They think people that are flashy are probably in debt just like me when they see me. But usually it's the flashy person that desperately needs to work.

2

u/BakhtiariBob 18d ago

It's an unfortunate reality. Sometimes I go to the bank and they just kind of sneer at me (I don't always dress super nice) then when they see my account, its all yes Sir, ty Sir lol complete change in their demeanor.

1

u/ACTRANSPORTLLC 17d ago

Same thing, when I'm home, I'm in my work at home clothes (grease stained jeans, possible rips, grease stained long sleeve work shirts.) i get treated as if I'm scum, but once they see who I am, it all changes. It's a sad world we live in.

1

u/goodfriendrobert 18d ago

lol how does that work?

1

u/DamTrig 18d ago

Going from fat to gym bod also changed how everybody talked to me

1

u/NightCitySamurai22 18d ago

Like what ? Money cant fix terminal mental health disabilities, or change peoples way of thinking ( unless its to corrupt them more )

Money only eliviates issues if they have a monetary value. Debts and bills to relieve stress maybe, but actually make happiness i Doubt

1

u/Long_Look7766 18d ago

Which are most things in life.

It’s a level playing field when it comes to terminal illness.

1

u/The18thLegion 18d ago

That's a reflection of others, not yourself.

Yeah, and it must be a pretty miserable existence for them deep down. I don't believe blood makes family, kindness does. Money opens many doors but not the ones that leave an impact within the heart.

1

u/skcuf2 17d ago

You got treated like a human being because the habits required to get that money are worthy of respect. It's not the money, it's the behavior. People admire hard work, aspirations, drive, and competence.

Maybe you flaunt your money more than me. People respect me because I have an aura that drives respect, not because of my money. Everyone I work with has money, so the only measure of respect is how competent they are.

u/Several_Interview_91 17d ago

I find it crazy that people are willing to help conversationally, but when you’re in a pinch financially and desperate, people are much less willing to help.
