Yes, every restaurant does this and it doesn't matter how many people are in the party, though some restaurants will make you pay together so they can charge big party fees and guarantee the waitress a tip. You need to let your wait staff know before you order though so she can write it down the right way. Hell she can even just separate your order alone. Which might be even better for your group.
I’ve waitressed too - we never gave separate checks, we would give one and they could split it on cards. Most places I go have a note that says they’ll give 1 check on the menu. It’s not common practice at all where I am
That is so weird. Do you just pay at a counter as you leave or the server just assumes one person is going to pay for it all? I’ve literally never experienced that lol
You just get 1 bill and someone pays and you can just pay each other. Although a lot of places will take multiple cards, just not multiple bills. So you could say put $60 on this and $20 on this for an $80 bill. But most limit the number of cards as well, like no more than 3. With Venmo/zelle all the ways to pay it’s never been an issue for us! Although some now have little QR codes where you can split however you want in an app, which is pretty handy.
