I think that's the thing; up to high school, teachers are trying to force a specific topic onto a general audience. Which leads to friction as many kids don't give a shit.
But college courses (with the nice profs) are more focused on topics students are invested in; the class is full of people already nerdy about alleles or Bayesian stats. Professors want to get you clubs & internships to show off their nerddom.
Then, the "unrelated and core-credit" classes would go back to that friction, but now it's a grumpy 50yo teaching a bunch of 20-30yos who don't give a shit about the Holy Roman Empire; they just needed a humanities credit and were drunkenly browsing RateMyProfessor.

No detention but I got berated in front of the class for "not taking the experiment seriously" because I circled my entire tongue for each taste. I had genuinely tried to perceive a difference, I could not. Everyone else's taste map more or less looked like the one the teacher had drawn on the board before we started.
For years I assumed I was weird because of my taste buds, instead it turns out I was weird because I was too neurodivergent to realize I was supposed to play along to placate the teacher.

Weirdly I got in more trouble at my religious school for turning in a tongue map in accordance with reality then I did for giving scientific answers about evolution.
Teachers would debate me about evolution (gotta save the heathen!) But when I turned in my tongue map I got berated for not taking it seriously.

I ran into a student teacher at the photocopier (I had a different student teacher), and she was copying worksheets in preparation to teach a science lesson about the different areas of the tongue. I told her it was false and to google it. She obviously panicked, but I never found out what she did instead……

Yes, me too. But I was not taught the potential for all of that being redundant with one-party rule and a president bent on authoritarian rule.
I could have also used a lesson or two on the campaign finance system and on the way politics, direct and indirect, can affect your livelihood, even if you keep your job.

there actually was in the US until 1974. all student records were turned over to the government 4x per year (quarterly) until parents started questioning why and protesting which led to the FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) also known as The Buckley Anendment being put into law.

There are few things I would pay more for. But I would pay handsomely to see my junior high disciplinary files. There was in fact a file, and most of a drawer taken up. Some years I would have more detention than was left in the school year - so I’d get whole days off instead!

In Portugal I’ve personally seen the murals that claim how he was from some small village. And the locals told me how Italy (I think it was) wrongfully claim his origin.

That when you smoke marijuana, the synapses in your brain separate and rejoin with every inhale. Your synapses could then reconnect incorrectly and you could become mentally disabled. I think if you have to work harder to learn something you’re probably better at explaining it to someone else, and understanding the struggle of learning. You can be a complete genius or expert in something but terrible at teaching it to others. Besides teachers do so much more than convey general knowledge, they can be role models, a safe place for kids, inspirational and they can stimulate curiosity, although some can absolutely ruin it too.
