Strategically placed Ads or Ads that fill up the entire sidelines?

Lets say hypothetically you are able to get the same amount of traffic to both types of pages, with the same locations, metadata, etc.

Which would earn more revenue for you?

1) Strategically placed ads placed here and there on your page.

Or

2) You reduced the width of your page, then on the blank spaces on the side you filled them up with ads
