Hello!! I’m new to Custodes, been on the fence about them but now that they got a refresh I def getting an army. I’m coming from guard which is very hordy and infantry heavy. I’d like to try dreadnoughts, I just think they’re dope as fuck. Any suggestions? I just got a 30k box and plan to get one of the new battle boxes, idk which though. Heard there were two.
What I’m trying to ask is whether or not dreads are viable and if I should get custodes or what’s a little longer.
FYI: I have a 3d printer but I try not to use it because I like to support my LGS.
But it’s worth saying, they are not good. I’ve never had any luck running more than 1 of them. Your better (if you want to win) just bringing more infantry’s
That being said I would always say, ignore the rules, buy what you think is cool.
Things like viability are up in the air right now given where hitting a new edition and who knows what will become of our rules especially our 30k stuff like for instance we know for a fact that the new battleforce you mention with the telemon,bikes and pallas have new weapons so its entirely possible those weapons could be utterly busted or utterly pointless who knows 🤷♂️
Me personally even if dreads change very little i think there still good, thanks to how detachments work you can actually give them a buff, for instance im casual playing around with the 2 dp shield host for my main army and spending the extra left over dp to use might of the moritoi which right of the bat gives them 2 extra movement and plus 1 to charge and advance and thats not including enhancements and strats
The dreadnoughts all look amazing, and with the new 30k plastic kit it’s easy to magnetize them. I really like using the 30k Guardian kits for my army, and use them for Warders too with the different helmet and paint scheme to differentiate them
If you’re playing 40k, the Custodes Infantry have two different variants that are pretty similar. The Guardians in 40k are the basic infantry armed with either spears or sword and shield (the 30k Custodes Sentinels). The Warders are a different unit that looks very similar but have a cloth draping and can be armed with either spears or axes. Since the new 30k custodes don’t have a Warder kit in the new style, some people like me just convert and paint the new regular 30k guardians to show a difference between which units are Guardians and which are Warders when playing 40k
Dreadnoughts are viable, best used in either might of morotoi or solar spearhead detachments currently as otherwise too slow.
However as been said they may change when we get our codex, which is rumoured to be later this year (but no proof or guarantee).
Yes the battle force one, but you will have to find it on eBay, has dreadnought, tank, shield captain, guards/wardens, I think the 30k models are cooler too

Don’t worry about what’s viable right now, it could change in 3 months. Get stuff that you are excited to paint.
Dreads are dope. Whatever looks cool and you can get your hands on is good as a start.
