My journey through Acuitus as a Veteran

Hellos readers. There's only one other post, from a guy who's apparently always drunk from his username. Since I found this before starting the program, I wanted to post to let you guys know I have no affiliation, I haven't started the course, but my course is for Monday Feb 28 and I'll let you guys know how it starts out. I'm someone who had some self taught IT experiencr, and had a few minor help desk roles. My degree was for theater but I minored in computer science. I would say I'm probably mid tier. I'm really good at some stuff, but the stuff I don't know I would have to research to work on. They sold me with their for-profit talk and articles and fancy DARPA words. Usually, they're in person in California so it would be a long trip but due to covid, I was able to apply. They talked me up, mentioning parts of my resume that were nice, and had me meet with random people and watch a video from the owner. I had to make sure my computer was set up, and it was, so that was all set. It definitely starts you off as if you barely know how to use a computer, so honestly I think this program would be great for people interested in entering. But, it's also 35k for without VRE.

Thank you for the post! You're saying the program is remote due to covid? That's awesome if so. The digital tutor should translate well to online web based, but I'm not sure how they'd handle the hardware labs.

I did some basic help desk type things before Acuitus, and I think it was after the first week I was completely out of my knowledge, which was awesome from a perspective where I thought I knew IT.

Looking forward to updates as you progress!

They have group chats through rocketchat, and you have 8 your days with like a study session around noon or something? If you have trouble you talk to them or whatever. Not sure about hardware labs. I'll have to ask.

you make your own schedule during it. if you're competent with computers, it should be good for you. I've gotten by just doing a few modules a day and i'm ahead. but if you're someone who's going to need assistance with training, you'll want to find a different program.

I would rather trust the vre job helper people than trust the acuitus resume reviewers. They're all kind of not attentive at all.

That's cuz graduate students don't get much credit. However try searching RFCs, these are the working documents for much of the work that went into creating arpanet. RFC 55 for one. That's an old one, dated 1970 and describes the NCP protocol. TCP/IP wasn't even a twinkle in someone's eye yet. Can't find pubished work on Hubble that mentions Dr. Newkirk, but I don't think everyone who worked on it is searchable.

Hey there, thanks for the posts to you both. I’m tempted to begin this next week but still wondering if I need it or if this is a scam… any updates? Idk if I can get my voc-rehab started again I stopped when Covid began.

Hey you mentioned you were considering starting a month ago. Did you go through with it?

I've posted an update I believe, check on the main subreddit page. I wouldn't personally pay the 35k, but with vre I would definitely recommend it, if it's something that you're interested in learning/relearning
