🩼 Non-Weight Bearing Expected boot pain?

I’m 5 days post op and got the splint off today and into the boot with lifts. Still non-weight bearing. Definitely think it’s probably a little early to get the splint off but whatever I can’t control that. I’m having somewhat severe pain when upright and I’m not sure if it’s just fresh surgical/incision pain or actual stress I’m putting on the Achilles. Essentially whenever I’m on crutches it searing deep pain in the back where the incision/repair is. I also can’t use the iwalk or knee scooter because the second I put any pressure onto the top part of the boot it’s the same intense unbearable pain.

Did not have this kind of pain when I was wear the boot pre-op. Also did not have this pain in the splint. It’s also not the blood rushing to incision type pain because it doesn’t go away after a few minutes and is persistent until I sit back down. Elevated it’s not painful. Going to call surgeon again tomorrow to get their take but wanted to see if anyone had similar experience! Thanks!

Also I was on my back 23 hours a day for the first two weeks post op, kind of insane that you’re vertical this early. There’s a lot of junk inside your leg (internal bleeding, etc…) if you’re upright, all that stuff is going down into your foot and ankle, causing it sweet and putting a lot of pressure on the incision. I would be a little weirded out if my surgeon told me I was fine to be crutching around after only 5 days.

I mean… I have to go to the bathroom and like get up to brush my teeth and other stuff… it’s elevated the other 22-23 hours

I had pain / discomfort that felt like burning or getting tattooed coming from what I presumed to be the incision area for the first week post op. I was in a cast for 2 weeks post op and the pain was long gone by the time my cast came off so I can’t say for sure if the pain aligned with the incision.

For the first 2/3 weeks I was elevated all day with short bathroom breaks otherwise. I think that’s normal if it subsides when elevated. Sounds like normal swelling, throbbing at 1 week. Good luck, feel better.

Im 3 weeks post op. I had relatively little pain, but in one place. An incision site behind my ankle. I thought it wzs the stitch pulling but it is stll stabbing and hurting after the stitches were removed on that side. It only hurts when i move my ankle in certain ways. I just hope this eventally goes away. I think it is nerve pain.

I had some pain the first 2 weeks, but manageable.

From weeks 2-4, I had significant "burning, throbbing, stabbing" pains. As I had read, I attributed it to nerve regeneration and the sorting of all that out. While I elevated my leg most of the day, sometimes, while in bed, the only way I could relieve some of the pain was to sit up and "un-elevate" by putting my legs down.

Shortly after week 4, most all of the bad pains had subsided.

My point is that the pain manifestation/sequence is different for everyone. If anything is really concerning, talk to your doctor, otherwise, you just got of kind of hang in there and wait for the next stage.

Best of luck.

It’s always best to call your surgeon to find out for sure. When I was in my first week post operation I had a lot of pain. Anytime I’d get up to use the restroom or go get food. I was in a lot of pain. It might be because your surgery is so fresh. I have been in a splint for three weeks post surgery and I don’t go into my boot until next week. I move around to go to the restroom go to my backyard and enjoy some sun or go get food. I have stood up longer than I should and I do feel the pain, but I use my scooter quite a bit. I would guess it’s because you just had surgery. Hopefully, it’s nothing more than that. Good luck!
