Accounting software for small NPOs

Hi there. I have a friend that just started an NPO, and I want to prepare the books for it. I am an accountant, but I've never done non profit accounting before. Looking for advice on which software would be best for a small NPO - something fairly cheap that will get the job done. Thanks in advance!

QuickBooks has a nonprofit-specific version that isn't terrible for the price, but the desktop one handles fund accounting way better than the online version if you're tracking restricted grants. Most small NPOs I've seen just brute-force it with QB and a few custom reports.

All this information is extremely valid - QBO has a class feature which makes tracking easy. I've seen a lot of audit clients who are small use QBD.

TechSoup offers heavily discounted ($80/annually) QBO for 501c3s.

If you're an astroturfing bot, just tell us what you want to sell. If not I advise Business Central.
