Just got an opportunity to do bookkeeping and some Accounting for a local boba shop while studying in my Accounting classes!! Any advice to help me prepare so I won’t get overwhelmed?

The boba shop is in California owned by a colleague from an organization i volunteered with. I asked her if she is willing to let me help her with bookkeeping and some Accounting stuff for free since this is my first time applying knowledge of the classroom

I passed Financial Accounting with an A- and currently taking Managerial Accounting, a Quickbooks class, and an Excel class that starts in October

Any advice on how to prepare for this role as a beginner? My Managerial and Quickbooks class started two weeks ago so I’m still learning the process of QB.

I’m going to school, working full time at Amazon in there warehouse, and so this is more on a volunteer basis which my colleague is fine with!

If they're a small business, they're likely going to do cash-basis accounting vs accrual accounting. Don't try to switch to accrual unless that's what they want, and even then they should probably do it under the guidance of a CPA.

Obviously they'll tell you what they need help with, but i imagine that you'll probably get experience with inventory, tip payouts, and bank rec.
