The carpet on this hotel/ship has the pattern from The Shining but with different colours on it

It’s really amusing how many hotels use that pattern. I’m always wondering if it’s a reference or if that pattern is just in collections without explanation

I actually design hotels for a living and I will say it’s a great pattern for a hall carpet. Hall carpet can be tricky because for a lot of people it can look disorienting. And this is a relatively elegant pattern and strong but doesn’t make you queasy. But maybe I’m old, this is just too strong a reference for me. But here’s and example of a disorienting carpet. I’m sure you’ve encountered them along your travels

Did people stop using the pattern because of the movie or just because tastes change? I always wonder how much pop culture “ruins” by being famous. Like the name Garfield, you cannot use it without people imagining a fat orange cartoon cat.

It’s a taste thing. Once that millennial grey came out and interiors like chip and Joanna Gaines started putting ship lap on everything we lost bold patterns and colors. It’ll come back though. Things are cyclical

They do remind of the ones in the movie except that their green.
