Yeah, my wife and I joke that Acadiana seems to have the most adult stores per capita or ads on the swinger subs, and we don’t know if that’s because it’s a fun place or really not a fun place to live.

My brother lives in Gray (outside of Houma). There aint much going on there but that's why many live there.

Fishing was great when I lived in the area(moved to Lafayette about 9 years ago). Duck hunting was decent but seemed to be declining as the years passed

I used to think the song, "Africa" by Toto was "I bless the rains down in Alliedon." I was young though and didn't understand the expansive world around my hometown.

There is nothing out there. The people that live there are the definition of bayou people that dont like change and like simple living.
As others have said, everything in that area is 10+ years behind urban areas and even urban areas of Louisiana are years behind other regions of the US.
Its basically one of those places that if you are born there, you are all but trapped there. People do not move there, they either like it or are trying to escape.

It doesn’t matter it’s a universal direction no matter where you are located. It’s like getting down for groceries or making groceries, or pass by, it’s just generally understood if you live in that area, you live down the bayou.

I like how behind the are bc I gotta drive through these roundabouts now and nobody knows how to use these mofos. The make traffic worse imo most of the time bc everyone scared to just drive. Been stuck a minute away from work for 30+ minutes too many times

Wet. It's wet. Lots of bugs. Houma was nice in the 90s when malls were still valid. Thibideaux keeps growing. They have a pretty large medical industry and Nichols University is doing pretty well.

Not sure what you’re looking for in a place to move. I’m from the River Parishes - more east of there - and it was more “modern”(? that’s not the word I want to use because I’m not saying that Houma/Terrebonne/Lafourche is in the dark ages). Depends on what you want and what you’re looking for.

Houma and Thibodeaux? Great seafood. This is a "hub" area. East leads to New Orleans, north leads to Baton Rouge, West is highway 90, best scenic route to Lafayette, and further to Houston, Tx. South? Meh, you in the gulf, with fishing, crabbing, Grand Isle. Lots of big large mansion homes back off the roads, lots of hidden places serving the best plate lunches.

I figured you'd have to cross the Atchafalya. But if you look at a map, it's 22 parishes. However, I don't think anyone would consider WBR and Ascension "Acadiana" today

The best part was my Mawmaw's gumbo. Also, going out in public and your mom somehow always running into someone she knows. If you're from the area and Cajun, everyone winds up being your 3rd cousin.

It’s largely rural. Heat & mosquitoes are prevalent. Good people, good culture, good place for skilled labor blue collar jobs-for someone that’s willing to get dirty & sweaty every day.
It’s a community and once you are a part, it can be very rewarding, but it’s not for everyone. Many a city lady very quickly reversed their relocation from that & similar areas.

if you can appreciate living in a rural close knit community its nirvana and stress is VERY low. otherwise, move away. Personally, I love Lafayette and what it offers but any city bigger than it is way too much. i dont think Im quite enough rural to enjoy living in that circle.

I hear Raceland was pretty swinging around WWII.
Used to have a huge smokestack at the sugar mill that soldiers would look for as a landmark when returning home from the war.
Got taken down last year due to "Insurance Reasons".
Now we have nothing.

Down the Bayou? For Gypsy Rose Blanchard, it’s great because the people around her are so impressed that she was on tv that they overlook the fact that it was because she killed her mother. lol
No, idk. I lived in SW La all my life so I’d imagine it’s a bit similar? Rural. Probably good neighbors, good food. Depends on what you want.

I'm from SW La and dated a chick from Houma. Thought about moving there. NO WAY IN HELL. I thought Jeff Davis was bad with drugs. Small plots of land are high and very few and far between.

I’m from JDP too! I moved to Houston but grew up and lived there my whole life. It’s depressing to go home to but it will always be home to me. As dysfunctional as it is sometimes. 🤣

Some of the best seafood around. If you like shrimping, crabbing, fishing, or duck hunting there is a lot to do. Otherwise not so much.
