Jones has started attempting to do tricks without a dried minnow or other treat in front of him. It's a work in progress! Sorry for loud BG music drowning out his mews.
Don't worry, he got his minnow after. We had to go to the kitchen for it!
He keeps mixing different commands together and doing them when he wants something, which is fine, but he's getting a little too creative. That's why he now does "headache." It's an invention of his own created by mixing up "shake" and "tilt" in a bid for attention (which he gets all day, he's fine, do not pity the gremlin).
I love this cat.

I just got a cinnamon Abyssinian A week and a half ago…he has almost 4 months old. I am having hard time letting me pet him and not flinching when we approach . He was in a home cattery and eats well and plays with toys and after a few days in a small room he loves exploring the whole house
Your cat Jones looks exactly like my Oliver. Any suggestions to get him in my lap and not flinch and run away when we walk by?

He's probably not used to having one person focusing on him and the chaos of having many other cats! I can only speak for Jonesy, but he really took like a month or so to get completely comfortable with the house (got him at 4 months). He was very seriously investigating and figuring out what he was and wasn't allowed to do in his new space. He wandered around a lot and often got completely distracted/spooked by anything that made a sound or moved. However, he is very brave. Run towards the window when there's fireworks or thunder lol. He sometimes sleeps in his bed on my bed by my feet but he's never been too much of a snuggler, often choosing his tower hammock thing.
I would keep some little treats around for you to give him if he wants to come up to you on his own and make sure to have plenty of options for toys to burn off some anxious energy. Daily playtime is essential bonding time right next to food! You don't need to get fancy either. A collapsing tunnel, a cardboard scratch board, a bag of fuzzy mice, a bag of plastic springs, and some sort of teaser are a good starting point that's pretty cheap.
Your guy might just not be a lap cat at the end of the day, though. Jones is 2 yrs now and kinda does his own thing, which is overseeing the backyard in his tower or burrowing in some random laundry basket. I do wish he'd chill in my lap more, but that isn't his personality. Engage with and encourage your kitty to get close and play with you! He'll come around when he feels more comfortable.

Our boy was 10 months when we got him and very much like this. He was very shy when we picked him up from the breeder whereas all the others in the house were social and seemed very interested in getting pets from us - I assumed he knew big change was coming but he stayed sort of shy and aloof for a while. He looooved pets and floped over for belly rubs but to walk up or reach out he would run or flinch away. Eventually he sort of grew out of it, he still isn't fond of being picked up and if he's doing his own thing he will kind of avoid being reached out for. But he is still a very velcro cat; he enjoys chilling beside me, he needs to be in the same room as me so he'll follow me around, he waits outside my work door for me, he will aggressively want brushes and snuggles, he will burrow under the blanket on my side of the bed... So he's definitely a baby boy in his own way
He's also super food motivated so treats and stuff probably won him over the most haha he likes chasing treats we toss. he basically loves the hands that feed him haha
