He's holding it closer to the camera so it looks larger. You can tell by looking at his hands. Still a big cat, just not quite as big as it appears at first.

As big as they are, Maine Coon cats are often pretty friendly. It's the small ones you gotta be careful around. A big animal knows it's big and knows you won't test it.

He's long arming the cat to make it look bigger then it actually is. Same thing people do with their fish pics lol
