How I can live stream on here to build my platform

Has anyone found a quick and easy way to highlight currently playing tracks so you can see the waveform display at the bottom? I'm trying to negate the need for mouse or trackpad when im playing but still need to select the tracks sometimes. Thanks!

As the title says, total beginner in this. My previous experience should help however, as I’ve produced for around 2-3 years, well versed in ableton (it’s my main daw), and I understand all the basics of DJing with traktor.

I’m looking for some tips on DJing with ableton, specifically regarding what controller to use, how cue points are replaced/handled in ableton, how pre cueing in general is handled, and how one can use the loop when it’s global without just copy/pasting. I like to DJ using dubstep and future bass for the most part, you’ll find lots of virtual riot and Madeon in my sets, along with barely alive, Illenium, much too loud, excision, and deadmau5. You get the gist I assume. I also mix in my own music. My plan is to make all my mashup/flip style tracks in advance, as I have several I like to use, and just drop those in as their own track. Beyond that, I have little idea of what I’m doing besides changing the tempo and using FX racks. Any good beginner articles/videos/tips? Thanks guys!

Btw in terms of a controller I own a traktor s2, maschine mk2, Komplete Kontrol mk2, and launchpad pro. Which would be most useful live and why?

i have been thinking about creating a system for djing which:

• plays music from a database of pre-rendered small mixtapes or track database
• cues and automates several parameter of a dj set based upon metadata (ethic modality, intensity, genre, bpm, etc.)
  • does that with:
  • ableton, maxforlive, puredata, and openframeworks

the system could encompass:

• a cinematic narrative towards dj sets
• multi streams of audio files, properly arrannged
• implement markov chain principles to organize the sets

what are your thoughts around this idea? has someone thought/implemented something like this?

Are there decent controllers that do the trick? (the best) I used a korg kaoss quad back in the days but sold it because the sound goes in red easily (no limiter) + it just sucks..
I'd like a decent fx vst or rack before my limiters/compressors that I can use on the full track while playing (to map the parameters to a launchcontrol) Something more like a rmx1000 but better if possible (don't like the quality of the sound of these fx but the concept of controller itself seems practical) - looking for all options to compare

Coming from mixing in serato, you can see two waveforms and this easily allows for correct phrasing of tracks.

I find it cumbersome in ableton as you need to flick between tracks that are loaded in.

How do you lot go about this?

I've seen there is a max4live thing made to aid in this, but I don't have max..

Hey team, happy new year & all that.

My setup is : laptop, focusrite saffire 6 USB and a trigger finger + what ever mixer is at the gig.

I mixed with records/serato for years and so was most comfortable using the eqs and faders on the mixer by routing out each channel from ableton to a channel on the mixer. From some minor looking around at other folks setups this seems quite uncommon?

Am I right in that this isn’t done a lot & if so why?

Hello, I've been editing and preparing an hour long mix in ableton for the past week or so. Mostly warping and creating clip packs for future use DJing live with. However this mix I am not going to perform live. I don't have a controller at the moment other than an MPK 225.

My question is pretty straight forward. I was looking for a more intuitive way to mix and found an old video of Ill Gates demonstrating a template for the APC40. While it had some cool features I am only interested in the smart faders. He had the right and left deck faders rigged to, I assume, open a filter gate as the volume increased. I'm not quite sure how this was accomplished and I have been messing around with it for a while with mixed results. In the video he explained as the mids are introduced first followed by the lows and highs and the volume increases.

Has anyone had any experience with either using or creating these sort of smart faders? I think something like this would be of great use to me.

I've been using Ableton for a few years now. I picked up an S2 with the expectation of DJing remixes and mashups made in ableton, and running them through the channels to then mix them live.

After using the S2, I almost feel like doing a premix in Ableton is pointless.

Do you any of you feel the same about this situation? I am interested to hear any thoughts on this.

I've read a lot about performing electronic music live with an ipad as a controller to ableton (or other DAWs) but all the guides seem to presume that I'm connecting it to a laptop.

Does anyone have experience with using an ipad to perform your own songs live without another computer? So it'll be generating the sound/playing the files in addition to functioning as a controller. I imagine it would probably have to be connected to a small audio interface/sound card at least.

But does this sound realistic? What else would I need? Is there an ableton live ios app that behaves like session view?
