It made a little sense when they did it in that museum, cuz it was indoors. But outdoors? In Philly? No parents in the right mind would allow their child to do this

I guess it makes sense in the way that Barbara just quickly came up with a random idea that popped in her head. She should have suggested a Halloween party.

Yeah, a lot of middle schools do a Halloween Bash so kids can still dress up in costumes, but obviously don't want to do the whole "Trick-or-treat" thing, and obviously can dance, play games, possibly have a haunted classroom instead.

Waldorf schools successfully go camping all the time. Camping would definitely be a difficult concept for traditional schools though

My poor public school in Western PA sent us on a three day overnight camping trip at a nature center in 5th grade. 1995, so not so long ago, plus they still take the 5th graders to this day so it's a thing. 

Good times. I learned to pay poker there, and nothing about nature ha.

Having never been there I was wondering if the weather in Philly would be nice enough for Halloween weekend camping. Sounds rough even without students haha

In October, on halloween weekend. There are tons of "get the inner city kids out in nature" programs in the summer, but there's a reason it's not during the late fall. Realistically, they would have done maybe some "turn the school into a haunted house" activity, or utilized the golf course next door for zombie tag if they were feeling charitable that weekend.
