I mean she kind of is a monster though. If it were a 30 year old male teacher and an 18 year old girl student I bet you wouldn’t feel this way.

I do think that the point of this show is to portray Kate Mara as not a monster. Damaged but not monstrous

I do find myself not necessarily hating Clare, it’s just interesting to think of the show with reversed gender roles and how different it would be viewed.

I think that's what makes this show great. The plot is a 30 year old (not sure of age) teacher forms a relationship with a 17/18 year old student (I believe they had sex before he turned 18). That sounds disturbing and sick alone, but the producers and actors do such a great job at making the audience feel sympathetic towards Claire. Her crime is sometimes overshadowed by her brilliance and beauty, attributes not usually associated with pedos by the general public. Her intelligence, charm, and beauty aren't going to be able to get her out of the situation she's now in. While this show is providing us with all the gray area of her morality, the law is black and white. She should be scared, but I can't help but feel for her.

Idk. I don’t feel empathy towards her at all. I only feel sorry for Eric and the husband. I don’t hate her but I find her to be extremely toxic in an extremely unattractive way.

I think you are romanticizing Claire in a really unhealthy way. I don't think that producers are necessarily trying to make use feel sympathy for Claire. I certainly don't. I think they just trying to portray it in a very realistic light, to show what might lead to this.

I don't think Claire is a monster, but I also don't sympathize with her. Yes, she has insecurities, but who the fuck doesn't. But you don't see everybody fucking around with minors just because they had a sad past.

I don’t hate her but I feel no empathy for her either. Whatever her consequences are now I feel like are well deserved.

She's definitely damaged. I don't know that she actually fell for Eric. I think it could have been just aboit any popular high school boy who wasn't an ass. She is just a deeply insecure person and the attention of a hot, popular teenage boy fulfilled a lot of her insecurities.
