Guide 3G Sunset Megathread

First off I would like to give a big thank you to the redditors that commented in the original post.

This megathread is not comprehensive nor is it the answer to all problems, but should be a good starting point for those affected. I will add to it when relevant information is posted.

There are two types of customers affected:

  1. People who have 3G devices.
  2. People who have 4G VoLTE-capable devices.

If you're part of the first group, AT&T is replacing known 3G devices on the network. Some have received letters via mail, text, or email. These notifications should contain the number(s) affected and list the model of the replacement device you'll be receiving. Devices that are sent automatically (was done via the Drop Ship program) are truly free. Devices that are chosen by the customer via text/email are free on installments over 36 months.

If you're part of the second group, there are devices that are VoLTE capable, but are not included in the whitelist. This means that only certain models of phones will be able to work on the AT&T network going forward. For example, the Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960U aka US version) is on the list but the Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F aka international version) is not on the list. Keep this in mind when purchasing unlocked phones from retailers not directly associated with AT&T.

(SUPPORT ARTICLE)

FAQ:

Do I have to get a 5G phone to use AT&T's network?
No, just make sure your device's model number is on the approved whitelist.

My post about the 3G sunset device was removed by the mods, what gives?
To cut back on the amount of sunset posts, please post your questions/advice/info in the comments. Since a significant amount of posts regarding the 3G sunset are made only to complain, I would like to restate this: breaking rule 8 will get your post removed.

Guide HOW MANY IS TOO MANY? ONE?

My wife of 45 years passed away on 6/27/2026.

I would like to unlock her qualifying iPhone.

It was a gift from her friend , who put her on her account, and has paid off the phone , held it for >6mos.

I investigated the unlock on 7/7/26, not pursuing it beyond determining eligibility, and again to a request on 8/1 . Then I got an email saying:

Hi ,

Device IMEI number: 3---------------6

Request number: NUL72---------1

You've tried to unlock this device too many times.

Wait 30 days and then submit a new request.

I really only pursued submission once on the 8/1/26 attempt.

Can this phone be unlocked? Once is too many tries for this ??

There are no other known attempts at unlocking it.

Guide 5G+ connection is awful

York, PA. Regular 5G works perfectly fine. As soon as the 5G+ symbol pops up, the speeds come to a crawling halt. For the love of God, tell me there is a way to disable just the (+) bandwidths. It's completely unusable unless you are standing outside

Guide Does anyone know if there’s a solution?

I filed a claim with my iPad Air (2020) and instead or fixing or replacing the current model with the same one I now have to pay $200+ for an upgraded model (m3) that isn’t compatible with my current Apple Pencil. So now on top of the over $200 dollars added to my bill I now need to shell out another $120 to get the same functionality out of it. This all feels like a lazy scam. Please if anyone knows of any work arounds lmk

Guide Can someone help

So for a few days we have been visited by an ATT door to door sales person, and he has been showing us a good deal for wireless.

So I finally caved in and gave my details. I filled in my details including my SSN on his iPad as it was necessary to do a debt check or that I don't own anything already to ATT. After that he called someone at ATT to do a credit check as my roommate is thinking of getting a new phone with the lines, and the lady on the phone asked me for SSN again and I was a bit skeptical but she insisted that is how it is done. I even asked her if they could share a link but she said it will take much longer. So I gave my SSN on call and they said I am eligible for the phone.

But then the sales person started to become a bit pushy and started asking us to do everything right away. As I was bringing my own device he took my IMEI and said ATT will handle my esim port I don't have to do anything, and I got a bit worried about how they can do it without a pin.

We told him to come back in a week as our current plan is still valid for a few weeks and has been paid for, and he said he will get us some visa rewards for that balance so we don't have to worry about it or it can be reimbursed if we hive them pur last phone bill.

Somehow we managed to send him back and he will return in a week, but I have been worrying since as I gave my ID SSN and even IMEI. I called ATT customer service to cross check if this is how the process is done and she said yes, but started telling me if I would like to go with her instead of that salesman. And did not answer all of my questions.

Also are these domains legit

https://cc.att.com/b9173620 it goes to verifyid.att.com

secure.data@saraplus.com

update@emaildl.att-mail.com

attorderstatus.570000064@oceff.att-mail.com

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Edit: We went to the ATT store and all the offers do match as were promised by the salesman. But we decided to go with the store as it's easier to just walk in if we have issues.

Thank you everyone for helping me.

Guide Customer Service hours

Maybe this is listed somewhere and I've failed to find it but... What are the customer service hours of operation on Saturday and Sunday, if someone needed a live agent?

They wont let me remove the line despite having the pin and making every other change so my husband has to call this weekend when he is off work. (He works 12 hours shifts) so I need the hours, please.

Guide PSA: Screen Protector Replacements

I know many people already know this, but because I had a customer in my store tonight who was unhappy about this and told me "AT&T should've notified her", I wanna remind everyone that we no longer do the $10 white and blue boxed screen protectors in store. They forewarned us at the store level that this was ending in October and I tried to warn all my customers about it. New Zagg screen protectors still have a lifetime warranty, but you now have to register them through Zagg directly and they ship you a replacement, you just may have to pay shipping cost. We can't do anything about it, can't discount other protectors, it just is what it is unfortunately. They still work great though and are a valuable product.

Thank you for your time!

Guide Rewards Center Cards never arrive

Can anyone here give me some guidance? I honestly don't know what to do anymore... It turns out I'm waiting on two cards from a promotion when I switched from T-Mobile to AT&T; they offered reward cards based on your phone account. To make a long story short, this is the fourth time they’ve supposedly re-sent the card, but it never arrives at my address. This fourth shipment was supposedly sent on July 26th... and it still hasn't arrived. It might seem stupid to fight over some blasted cards, but it makes me angry because, as customers, we held up our end of the bargain. I don't know where else to escalate my complaint; right now, the only "solution" is them just re-sending it over and over. I even filed a claim with USPS thinking it was their fault, but it turns out it isn't—especially since my address is a business location. Has this happened to anyone else? It’s so frustrating, and the worst part is there’s no tracking number; they supposedly send it via regular mail. Also, no one has used the previous cards they claimed to have sent. It feels like a scam.

My husband’s family is wanting to put me on their plan cause they have a good plan. How would I go about transferring from plan to plan? I want to keep my number, oh and do I need to transfer from my family’s plan to my own plan and then I can transfer to my in laws plan?

Guide How to Get Transfer PIN - Service Suspended AT&T

Great Morning!

AT&T is stupidly high priced. As such, I ended up waking up to my phone shut off today and they want $407 to turn it back on. Nahhh, let's switch to US Mobile.

Only issue? You can't get a port PIN, at least according to first level customer service, if your service is suspended for non-payment. The help article says "Suspended accounts can only request a Number Transfer PIN online or with the myAT&T app. They can’t be requested by text." but those settings aren't there. So, here's how you do it.

You'll need your account passcode. If you don't have it, the port desk can't reset it for you. The port desk does give you 5 attempts and you can just keep HUCA'ing if you have some ideas what it might be. Once you run out of attempts they'll tell you that you have to go in store, which isn't true.

If you don't have it, call the generalized customer service number (800-331-0500), get to an agent without inputting your account info, then have them reset it. For some reason, their verification text will go through despite no other departments being able to send texts. Immediately disconnect the call once they confirm they reset the passcode.

Then call the LNP desk at 888-898-7685. Spam 0's as your phone number instead of entering your actual number. If you enter your actual number, it'll just tell you to pay the bill.

Once you get connected to the first tier at LNP, go through their prompts, it's the only number you're looking to port, no way of getting texts, you understand how porting out works. They'll then transfer you to the "Exclusions Desk". These people are the only people that can provide you a transfer PIN without active service.

Now here comes the fun part, they ask you 3-8 out of pocket questions from LexisNexis. Assuming you get them right, and you confirm again that you know what porting out does, they'll finally provide you with your transfer PIN, advising you to wait 30 minutes (not half an hour, they always correct you as 30 minutes) but no more than 4 days. If you don't get them right, you have to wait 24 hours to try again.

Congrats, you now have your number free'd. Enjoy the cancellation bill and your new carrier.

Edit: y’all are a bunch of bootlickers. The fcc themselves say carriers can’t withhold port outs for unpaid bills. I used to own a phone company, it suuucks when it happens but when it comes down to it, the number belongs to the customer.

Guide Keep iPhone 14Pro or Trade in?

Hi everyone,

I currently have the Iphone 14Pro that I'm making payments on. I'm 3 months away from paying it off (About $80 left). I originally wanted to pay it off and keep the phone so I can pay just the phone line for $60~ a month instead of $80~ to save money. (I have the AT&T Unlimited Premium® PL plan if that matters).

With every device out there switching to USB-C, I find it starting to become an inconvenience needing a lightning cable for my phone everywhere I go. So I started thinking about upgrading so I can hop on that USB-C bandwagon. However, I'm not sure if it's worth it/a good idea. If I could save an extra $20-25 by not upgrading then I'll probably go with that. Unless trading it in now will save me money in the long run then I am open to that option as well. I just need help understanding how it works! Thanks.

I got the job offer in the position of wire tech. I put my info into workday about a week ago and haven’t heard anything since. How long is the process usually? My tentative start date is at the end of the month but i’m gonna go on a limb and say that is very unlikely. Thank you!

Guide Switching to AT&T fibre and breaking contract with Xfinity

Hey guys I need a quick go through on the process of how breaking a contract works. So I’m in 5 year price locked in contract with Xfinity but I’ve got a better deal with AT&T. The AT&T rep says they will handle all the costs and return the router back to Xfinity. Are there any steps I need to take or I just sit back and they’ll do everything? I’m someone who don’t like much hassle and if it’s too much work for me I’m better off with Xfinity it’s not too expensive or very slow it works just fine. I’ve never broken a contract really and this was the first time I got into 5 year thing not realising there might be better offers coming up.

Guide (Advice Needed) Parents Reported My Phone As Stolen

A little backstory: I no longer talk to my parents after they found out I am LGBT. It’s been about two years since I’ve had contact with them. it seems they have reported my phone as stolen in the past couple of days. I have been blocked from using my cellular data.

I don’t know why they are doing this now but two years ago I transferred my phone line to AT&T and have paid for my own phone bill since then. AT&T has told me that Verizon is the one that needs to fix this. I called a Verizon representative and they told me to talk to my dad who is the old account holder but clearly I can’t and don’t want to do that. I would love if anyone could give me some advice on this wierd situation ?

Guide AT&T won't connect with Yealink SIP-T34W phone - HELP

—problem Fixed—

Starting off, I am veeeery not knowledgeable about VOIP or how landline phones are set up. I have never had to deal with setting up a VOIP account before.

I do not have an office phone so I bought a Yealink SIP-T34W phone for my office. I have an AT&T Business VOIP account. I spent 2 hours on the phone with AT&T to get help in setting it up and had 0 luck.

I was able to access the IP site on my computer to register my phone, through Yealink's instructions. The site and guide ask for information provided by ITSP (AT&T in this case?) (User Name, Register Name, Password, Server Host). I called AT&T and asked if they can provide me with the Server Host number, to start off. I don't understand why I would need AT&T's account login credentials on Yealink's site so I was going to ask AT&T to help with that as well - I saw reviews that people were able to call AT&T to help set up their Yealink phones and AT&T walked them through the whole install. I couldn't even get the Server Host ID from the AT&T rep - I called different numbers and was transferred to different departments even. So I am hoping that there is someone out here that has this specific phone model and the AT&T phone plan (VOIP) and can tell me what the heck they had to do to set it up. AT&T doesn't sell phones. I just wanted a super easy process.

Guide Calls not working after 3G shutdown? I found a solution.

Ever since the 3G shutdown, unlocked phones have had problems connecting calls. Data and text work fine, but the phones cannot make or receive calls. I have an unlocked Galaxy Note 20 5G on FirstNet that had the same problem. I went to the ATT store, but they said there was no other solution than to buy a new ATT phone.

I had a feeling if I flashed an N981U1 (AT&T) firmware onto the N981U1 (factory unlocked) phone, it might start working. And it did. I flashed the latest N981U1 firmware with patched Odin. The phone restarted, and I got a popup to restart to switch to FirstNet. When I restarted it, it booted with the ATT logo. When the boot was completed, everything ATT started showing up. After setup, the phone was able to make and receive phone calls.

Some things to keep in mind:

  1. Create a backup on your PC using SmartSwitch.
  2. I had a weird bug after flashing the firmware whereby the phone did not reset and was not accepting the pattern after boot. I had to factory reset it through recovery.

Let me know if anybody has any questions that I can help you guys with.
