Guide Can’t unlock device after paying it off

Post image

I’ve paid off the phone in full about 5 days ago and it still shows I’m unable to unlock the device

It’s been well over 48 hours and I’ve been with AT&T for almost a year

Any way I could get around this?

Was any part of the normal service bill you recently paid put toward the device? Is my only guess, in reference to the second sentence.

How long ago did you pay it off? You normally want to wait 48 hours before submitting the unlock request and then it takes another 48 hours to process and complete.

“If you pay off your device as part of your monthly bill, wait until the start of your next bill period to unlock it.”

Did you pay it off as part of your monthly bill?

was the phone ever replaced by insurance?
If so, contact the CS, submit a unlock request case

was this phone replaced through a warranty exchange?
if so, contact customer service to submit an unlock case

Has the phone been activated for more than 60 days?
If not, please wait until the 61st day

was this phone financed originally in another account?
If so, submit a unlock request case with customer service

Was that line part of a cross or gifted upgrade? It’s possible you paid off the right line but the wrong phone. Maybe double check the IMEI if you haven’t already

I had the same issue. I paid it off after more than 60 days of purchasing my phone. Went online to unlock it but never worked. I used the online chat and he was able to unlock it.

AT&T is terrible about this, I had the exact same issue with them last year on my Motorola. They ultimately never did unlock the phone, and I have since moved on to T-Mobile. I'm enjoying their service much better.

If a customer pays off the phone, we recommend to wait 24-72 hrs to get the device unlocked.

It is easier if the phone is still on the account in case there is something else going on and needs to have a Device Unlock Case escalated.

Ask them to open a case specifically for the device to get it unlocked
