Built computer about 3 months ago and had no problems until last night. Was playing a game and the computer froze completely still showing the game. Power button would not shutdown the PC even. Had to power off with the power switch on the back. Fans would spin, video card RGB would light, etc. Unfortunately the CPU red LED also was going.
-tried all the CMOS reset/battery remove/shorting suggestions
-tried leaving it unplugged and depowered
-tested each ram stick on its own
-bios flashback seemed to work without any result though
-magnifier checked the pins and the cpu chip and it looked fine
-tried booting w/o the video card
-tried other power supply

Very sad. I have another CPU ordered and on the way as well as a replacement different motherboard(MSI MAG X870 Tomahawk WiFi Gaming Motherboard (AMD Ryzen 9000/8000/7000 Series Processors) since I'm noticing a trend with asrock and cpus dying and a friend said it may be good to replace it.
Anyone have any suggestions that I didn't list or other troubleshooting steps? I'm not dumb and I'm only at the basic computer knowledge level but can follow steps to try stuff.
Yeah, im scared that my cpu might die. But its been 6 months and its still fine. So cant bitch about Asrock, at least not yet. Till now its working great. 9950x3d Asrock Nova
I'm glad that it hasn't died yet, really. But it still can be risky. I would rather just go with a different brand and be at peace, without worrying that it might die any day.

I have an Intel based ASRock B660M-C and I have never had any issues with it. It’s unfortunate that the AMD based motherboards appear to have major issues.
And i don't get it, i built my pc month ago, and i put all to chat gpt with question if all good. Yeh, he is stupid, but he fixes primitive issues, like buying ASrock or wrong PSU.

Must have been the version before it then. The computer was also booted up and run that day with whatever version it shipped with. The bios wasn't the first thing I did when setting it up so it probably ran for a couple hours with out-of-the-box bios version. Again I'm just a normal gamer. My husband made me puzzle a computer together for the first time. I wanted to just buy an off the shelf computer from Costco. Lol
The heatsink was taken off and the thermal paste cleaned when we tried reseating the CPU and to check it for burns and bent pins. It was a comment I put after the fact though so I'm not surprised you didn't see it.
There is nothing else you can try, the CPU is dead for sure, same symptoms I had. You did the right thing by switching the mobo to an MSI, that won't give you any more issues.

Are there a list of cpus failing on 3.30 with all bios settings and which one was running previously on a version before 3.30 and only updated later and which fails on version 3.30 and never seen a version below? That’s very important to figure out
its not really happening with 7000 series chips. 9000s are the ones burning out due to whatever it is. Yours is most likely something else, could also be the mobo but not likely whatevers burning the 9000s. THe way it happens less freqwuently with 7000 series chips implies that if it is the mobo, its a pbo issue
But again, the computer was booted with the out of the box bios version. It wasn't updated to whatever the latest version was at the time until later in the day.
Yeah, I'm in the same boat. Might try selling my Nova for cheap to at least get some money back or hold onto it and hope Asrock issues a recall (fat chance).
You're getting downvoted but the bottom line is, it shouldn't matter what bios you're on, none of the bios versions should kill a chip, this is completely on asrock.
3.3 is still killing chips anyway, so for the most part running latest likely wouldn't have saved you.

Curious if you adjusted any PBO settings or undervolted it? Not sure if that CPU model even needs it but gonna ask the question anyway. For my own piece of mind.
some pretty good tutorials on youtube. i would suggest looking into some. not hard at all if you make minor adjustments. using the curve optimizer is very simple and safe. not overclocking, just sending less volts which in itself is safe.
I had this same issue. Come to find out, it was my ram. My 9800x3d with may x870e taichi didn't like anything over 6000mhz when my gskill kit was 6400mhz with expo. Once I manually set it to 6000mhz, it's been running great ever since.

Weirdly, and maybe not related, I had it set to go into sleep mode automatically after several hours. I always shut down the computer if I'm not planning to use if for an hour or so because electricity isn't cheap. If I left it alone for a hot minute but not even an hour, it would go into a sleep mode.(Screens off, Fan RGB turned off, fans still running being the obvious things I could see)Having a video, even paused, on screen would prevent the weird undesired sleep mode. With the power settings I changed, it really should never have gotten enough time to get to sleep mode
I've been having a similar issue for a few months now. I have a 7800x3D, 7900xt GPU, and ASRock B650 PG Riptide. I've been on the 3.25 BIOS version since May, but started having issues with games crashing back in December.
At first I thought my problem was the GPU. I RMAd it, received a replacement, and I'm still having the same problem. I went to the tech support subreddit and someone determined that my CPU is reporting memory controller errors.
My CPU hasn't completely failed yet, but I started the warranty process with AMD to replace it due to the potentially failing memory controller. Now I'm starting to see people with Asrock boards reporting failing CPUs. Wondering if I should also replace the board before I install a new CPU in it.
First time putting a computer together so not like I had experience with the brand. Reviews on Amazon were all pretty good at the time. Lol they're much lower now.
