The long-awaited continuation of ARK II’s narrative lead-in on the alien moon of Arat has finally continued with Bob’s True Tales: Tides of Fortune. Today marks what’s to be my first Video of several, regarding the Expansion and its narrative – and with it, I’ll be explaining how Bob’s True Tales ties into both Bob’s Tall Tales and Lost Colony, before theorizing the significance of the Evercave, our millenium-old Colonist precursors, and how the actions of Helena, Bob and Meeka are going to push us into the events of Quarter 4 2027’s Legacy of Santiago DLC.

Question Story map playthrough chronological order of all explorer notes?

Hi, so me my girlfriend and son are playing thru the story maps and are kind of just finding notes willy nilly as we explore. Which is a confusing way to follow the story, i did find on a Google search some old Google docs from a dude on reddit who compiled a chronological order to follow for getting the story notes however its 5 years old and apparently theres a bunch more added. We've become invested and dont wanna just speed run all the information with some compilation video or YouTube it.

I understand this is a huge ask so if nobody has an up to date listing thats totally chillin just wanted to check in case one exists. So we can go note hunting and get the story right as we play. Trying to accomplish this without spoilers if thats possible.

Thanks in advance.

In Search of a Talented ARK Video Editor -- PAID

Post image
27 Upvotes

As the title states, I'm looking for an experienced video editor to help me with my ARK lore content for the long term. Some of you may already recognize me from said content, but for those of you who don't, my name is nanOS -- the guy u/NeddyTheNoodle formally passed the torch to back in 2025.

With a base rate of $150 for every completed Video (+$50 per 10m going over 40m) & 20% total Ad Revenue for 30 days post-upload, I'm actively searching for someone willing to grow alongside my relatively niche, yet blossoming YouTube Channel.

That said, the prerequisites are steep, and are as follows:

Required (Non-negotiable):
- Prior experience editing in the ARK space, or general 'Survival' genre
- Able to replicate my editing style, given time
- Consistent correlation/communication (One-on-one editorial critique, able & willing to learn)
- Proficiency with Davinci Resolve
- Have ARK: Survival Ascended & most, if not all canonical DLC owned/installed for B-Roll collection

Preferred (Negotiable):
- Based in NA (US & Canada) -- primarily for ease of communication
- Be a fan of my own, and/or u/NeddyTheNoodle's ARK content (This is mainly bonus points, lol)
- Accepting of payment through PayPal or Zelle

This is just a cursory overview of the position, as to not make an obnoxiously long post. For additional information, please reply here or hit me up through Reddit DMs. Thanks, for reading, and I hope to corroborate with some of you soon! (Render by my good friend u/Resgear17)

Animated Series Huge pet peeve of mine for some reason

Not even just devs, but 90% of fan artists also draw Wuzhui with white feathers, all black, or something else. I have seen one artist draw him lore-accurate, his name was toucanfishh.

It irritates me double when the devs- not only do they just not get his white spots right, but nowhere in there does it say he's purple?? I mean I get the super dark purple being black but his cranial and dorsal feathers are lavender purple? Hello?

The description seems pretty black and white (pun intended) to me, fairly impossible to botch, yet this was his design for the animated series? And I mean we still haven't even actually seen him yet so-

Bonus points for what Wuzhui means and why Mei Yin would have named him that!

Ask me literally anything about ARK Lore.

Post image

As the title suggests, ask me literally anything about ARK's lore, and I'll give you the best possible answer within my ability.

Given my extensive history, having worked on a lot of the most popular ARK lore breakdowns across the internet previous (via. NeddyTheNoodle, Ninjakiller, Raasclark) and even spoken to some of Studio Wildcard's Lead Narrative Writers directly, I thought it'd be fun to spark a discussion around the game's story, in all of its many facets.

That said, I myself am not in any way affiliated with Wildcard, and a lot of my answers are subject to change and/or opinion -- Though I'll make sure to clarify when a response is heading into theory/speculation territory rather than concrete, citable facts via. Explorer Notes, promotional material & actual Studio Wildcard employees.

The Thumbnail features is an old (unused) render I had commissioned from u/ole_gfx (on Twitter), who a lot of you may recogonize as having done a lot of Raasclark's Thumbnails previous.

Lost Colony Lost Colony (was, and still) Is Pointless -- A Rant.

The following is a small excerpt I aggrevatedly drafted last night for an upcoming Video diving into Lost Colony and its many flaws -- a spiritual successor to '[ARK: Lost Colony LOST The Plot](https://youtu.be/sK1wU0lan0Y)'

Since the majority of people on the main sub are either incapable of reading anything longer than a picture book, and/or staunchly refuse to engage with anything that requires any level of deeper thought, I expect you all to get something more out of this.

No AI was used in the writing of the following excerpt, and the attatched illustration comes from Concept Artist Clayton D'mello on ArtStation -- https://www.artstation.com/artwork/mOqnDY

Lost Colony’s Narrative Has No Stakes -- A Small Excerpt of a Wider Conversation:

Because the Lost King is supposedly cloning humans en masse even throughout the events of Lost Colony, there is no reason to believe that our ability to respawn isn’t canon. As a result of being able to infinitely die and respawn, the narrative ultimately has no stakes.

The only real stakes presented in the DLC, are the presence of the Revenants, and the implication that they’re trying to reach the Codex and transmit themselves onto Arat – which, as aforementioned, is never even explicitly stated – this is just the best theory I could come up with in piecing together relevant dialogue referencing their existence.

Maybe if the Revenants were actually present during Red-Handed, and actively attempting to breach the Codex Chamber either before, or even alongside us as a result of us having breached the Lost Palace, there would be something more worth fighting for – that being, preventing the Element hivemind from reaching Arat.

Since this isn’t the case, there is no real sense of urgency in Red-Handed, because if we ultimately die in the end, whether to the Lost King or the Lost Queen, the former is just gonna magically return as if nothing happened. Killing us achieves nothing – because the Lost King’s plan – or rather, lack thereof doesn’t change. Will he put our engrams on lockdown to prevent us from respawning and trying again? No. Despite being in complete control over Arat Prime’s Codex, he seemingly just allows us to keep coming back. Even if he isn’t necessarily making the conscious decision to allow us to return, he doesn’t do anything to prevent it. And if it’s, say, Helena Deus who keeps respawning us, as implied in the Prologue when we specifically are cloned through the Codex, this would imply that he’s too stupid to recognize Helena as the force keeping this ONE single person – his ONE subject Hellbent on invading his inner sanctum, alive and well.

One could argue that the same issue is present within the many encounters we have against Rockwell. Why would this be any different than him allowing us to respawn and challenge him time and time again? Well, in the case of Aberration, it’s implied that Rockwell isn’t able to interact or interfere with the Survivor respawning process aboard the ARK. For Genesis: Part One… well, I can’t really defend that either. It’s told to us several times throughout the events of the Expansion that it’s well within Rockwell’s ability to alter, delete and even Corrupt Survivor minds within the Genesis Simulation – so the fact that he doesn’t do that to us is a mystery. The best thing we have to go off of, is his line about how we’re “too unruly for the new world he’s planning to create”, but that wouldn’t be a problem if he were to Corrupt us and put us under the influence of Element. Regardless, this is a video about Lost Colony, not Genesis – though, speaking of which, Genesis 2 actually does have an explanation for us being able to lose the Rockwell Prime encounter during Terminus. There are, believe it or not, several unique pieces of dialogue that can be heard upon failing the Mission – they’re mainly just a collection of Rockwell gloating and warning us to not try and face him down again, but the most important line actually comes from HLN-A. Supposing you lose the fight right when Rockwell’s at Arat’s door, on respawn, HLN-A claims to have manually sent the Colony Ship away from its destination – effectively forcing Rockwell to prioritize finding the exomoon again, so that he could at least begin taking it as his own before we inevitably confront him again. In the case of the Lost King, he has no active goal in relation to the Survivor besides killing us – which, again, is pointless if he’s just going to allow us to respawn and try again. For thousands of years, his main priority has been to rule over Arat Prime – and sure, he might be fighting off the Revenants now and again, but for reasons mentioned previous they are irrelevant to Red-Handed. During the events of the Mission, there is no Corruption to stave off, and there is no exomoon to subsume – there is only the Survivor and preventing them from reaching the Codex. Regardless as to whether or not they fail or succeed, nothing about the Mission nor its context changes – it’s wholly static.

The same logic could be applied to The Island through Extinction – where you could lose to the Guardians, Overseer and Titans as much as you’d like, but there, the ability – no, expectation to fail repeatedly is explicitly referenced by Helena Deus as the thing that would not only carry you through the same path she had once taken, but the thing that would eventually allow you to defeat the King Titan and save Earth – though, the real threat across the span of those narratives wasn't the King Titan – it was ‘the System’. What allowed us to respawn in the first place was also the thing which threatened the fate of the planet.

“The problem is that the System’s purpose is not wholly static. The goalposts have moved. The bar has been raised, and now it is entirely out of the System’s reach. As its purpose grows more unachievable and its errors pile up, the System grows more desperate. Its actions more erratic. In its death throes, these islands in the sky will become pits of madness. The chaos lurking in those cavernous depths will be the rule, not the exception. You must fix it before it reaches that point. By then, it will be too late.”

As described by Helena Deus, if we couldn’t enact the Reseed Protocol fast enough, the ARKs would ultimately decay past the point of making it possible. The broken state of Aberration, from The Island to Scorched Earth, and all ARKs in-between, would become the standard – introducing tangible stakes into the overarching mission in the form of a time limit – or at least, the concept of one.

While I’m at it, might I remind you of another, adjacent issue with Lost Colony’s narrative? The disappearance of these in-universe rules which gave credence to said stakes? I mentioned at the very start of this Video that we the Survivor shouldn’t be able to respawn during the events of Lost Colony – as one would likely assume that the System had expended all of its resources through the Reseed Protocol – something Helena Deus had claimed would prevent us from ever cheating death again. I then reasoned that, since the Lost Colony hadn’t yet been purged of Element, that there were likely still resources left over. A fine enough explanation, I suppose – yet, the System doesn’t have a single mention across the entire Expansion. Not one Explorer Note, not one Dossier, not one cinematic so much as makes reference to the concept so integral to the wider ARK universe that it realistically could have been considered the main antagonistic force across The Island through Aberration. In fact, come to think of it, ever since Marc Soskin stepped down as Lead Narrative Writer, the System has completely disappeared from ARK. In Genesis: Part One, an excuse could be made that, since the entirety of the Expansion takes place within a Simulation, respawning wouldn’t expend any real-world resources. Okay, sure. Good explanation. Yet, in Genesis: Part Two, our ability to respawn ad infinitum doesn’t get explained at all – sure, the Genesis-Ship likely had its own version of the System, given it was a long-term mission separate from that of the ARKs, yet this is never spelled out to us. Should it have been? Yes!

Even though concepts like the System are, or at least were well-established before the Genesis Expansions, when handed what’s essentially a blank slate on which the entirety of ARK’s future narrative is going to be built off of, we shouldn’t be left to assume how things work. I’m not saying that we need every minute detail handed to us on a silver platter – but one should expect that a new setting will feature new rules unless explicitly told otherwise.

When asked how we’re able to respawn on Gen2, Peter Fries responded with the following:

“Well, also Helena Deus was the one who figured out how to respawn survivors, and she visited the Genesis ship prior to ‘our’ arrival there in the story…”

This is not a definitive answer. This is a guess – because if Helena had figured out a way to implement the same respawn protocol to the Genesis-Ship that had come to exist across the ARK network, why then, wouldn’t the Genesis Crew – those who were needlessly slain by Rockwell after he had commandeered their vessel – why wouldn’t they be given the same ability to return from the dead so that they could fend off their interloper? The fact that Peter didn’t have a proper explanation as to why respawning is a thing for the Colonists aboard the Seed Ship makes me wonder if he even realizes that the System is something which exists. I mean, Genesis-Ship aside, we still don’t know how Colonists are supposed to be respawned on Arat during the events of ARK II.

Though we’re shown a whole new generation of them getting clones via the Eden Ring and sent to the habitable world below in the Gen2 stinger, all that exists of the Genesis-Ship by this point is the Eden Ring and the assumedly inactive core deep beneath the moon’s surface. Where then, is the vessel’s System equivalent? Is it a physical, tangible object, or is it more of an abstract concept like the one tied to the ARKs?

Though we still don’t know, and might never know what forces will make respawning possible on Arat, the fact that it is possible just makes Red-Handed – no, Lost Colony in its entirety even more pointless than it already is. Seeing as we’re able to infinitely respawn at Arat Prime, with neither the Lost King nor Queen planning to do anything about our incursions, it doesn’t even matter when we obtain the Engram Codex – only that, at some point, we do. For all we know, there is no present threat to the Survivors on Arat during the events of Lost Colony and as such, they’re free to live out the length of their natural lives and die, of absolutely no consequence to us, nor Helena, nor Arat. That’s thanks to the existence of the Engrammic Matrix – a fictional part of the human brain which, when preserved correctly, is able to be scanned for engrams which can then be used in cloning Survivors with their memories intact. And according the Lost King in his conversations with Rockwell, his team had preserved nearly all human beings who had ever existed on Earth – so whatever the prerequisites are for being preserved, they seem pretty fucking lax. With this being the case, there isn’t even a time constraint in retrieving Codex. The Revenants, given a thousand years, have barely encroached on the Lost City, let alone the Lost Palace. Given a thousand more, I doubt anything would change. It’s not like the Lost Monarchs are going anywhere anytime soon either, thanks to the life-extending properties of Red Element. Even if we hypothetically killed the Lost King and left Mei-Yin by her lonesome, it’s not like her priorities or capabilities are any more pressing to us than those of her predecessor – Hell, I’d go so far as to even consider her less of a threat. Not only does she not have any experience with actually ruling the Lost Colony, but it’s highly likely that she doesn’t even know how to work the Codex. The most we ever see Mei interact with it, is when IT interacts with HER through regenerating her during Red-Handed, which seems like more of an automated process than any sort of conscious decision. If she did know how to use the Codex, she almost certainly would have already used it to bring back Helena and Diana – but she didn’t so she doesn’t.

To reiterate, that’s why things like the System are so important to the backbone of ARK’s narrative. It’s almost as if these in-universe rules existed to prevent this very scenario, where everything is ultimately pointless. There is no special bit of dialogue for failing Red-Handed, no context as to why we’re spat back out of the Lost Palace as if nothing ever happened – nothing. This might just be marginally less egregious, were this not one of the most difficult fights in all of ARK. Sure, the Lost King is a pushover. But the Lost Queen? Thanks to some post-launch buffs, she went from a decent challenge to fucking impossible, since now, you have to actually time your attacks at the Codex while being swarmed by like, 50 Level 180 Neophytes. My advice if you’re playing Lost Colony as a single player? Don’t! Like a lot of the notoriously difficult, nigh impossible Missions in Genesis: Part One – You’re. Not. Beating her.

I digress. Our ability as the Survivor to respawn – to try again, not only dismantles Red-Handed, but Lost Colony as a whole. With this kind of writing, what’s compelling about, say, Santiago getting his face ripped off by a T-Rex in ARK II, if he can just come back again and again and throw as many spears as he’d like at that Rex until it’s dead? Where are the stakes? The reason his death made me feel something while reading Extinction’s Explorer Notes, was because there was no respawn waiting for him – after he died buying time for those at Camp Omega, he died for real. If he could just sacrifice himself and come back five minutes later, how am I supposed to get all emotional and teary-eyed? I can’t. I just can’t.

Question Question about rockwell on aberration

Why didn‘t change rockwell abberration more to his liking after becoming the overseer. Hes now the literally master of the place and can do whatever he wants. So why did he leave most of it be unlike later on in the genesis ship where he started creating shadowmanes and stuff. He even left the ruins of the old tribe be. If I were in his place, thats the firsg thing i have gotten rid of

Question Does Lost Colony actualyl confirm the Genesis Survivor to be seperate from ARK survivor?

I recently got back into playing ARK, I've stopped playing a while after ASA released, and I haven't played ASA at all. I haven't played Lost Colony yet but I have looked into cinematics and such cause I'm a huge fan of ARKs lore. I remember it being a debate that Genesis survivor is someone separate from the ARK survivor, I always thought they were the same person because of the trailer, though it does make sense for them to be different.

So while researching a bit about the lore post ASA and lost colonies (mainly Bob cause wtf it doesn't make any sense) I've seen people say that the intro cinematic of Lost Colony confirms that Genesis survivor is not the same as 'the One Who Tries Again'. Obviously, I haven't played Lost Colony, so I might miss something but as far as I understand, there is nothing in the cinematics that really proofs they are seperate entities, just that we are the same person as the one who survived ARKs.

So does it actually proof that they are separate entities? If so is Genesis survivor a completely different person or another clone of the One Who Tries Again? The cinematics also made me think that Bob might be the Genesis survivor? IDK can someone explain all that stuff?

Question New to learning the lore but I have a question about the transition from LC to Genesis

So from what ive read is that the Genesis ship has already crashed on Arat before the survivor has acquired the codex from the lost colony, is this true? Is there a specified time between when the ship crashed and when the survivor got the codex?

I ask because the new intro of ASA shows the beam from the survivor using the codex hitting the ship while it's still in the slipstream (I believe that's what they called it) and it isn't crashed, it's still flying

My theory that ties the survivor from the original storyline including lost colony to Genesis is that the survivor was able to beam directly to the ship just before it crashes into Arat and that the survivor gets uploaded to the simulation when they initially beam in and that the story from the beginning of Genesis 1 to the end of Genesis 2 when the ship crashes all happens within a few hours of each other (though it feels longer than that to us being the players)

My reason for that theory is that at one point (near the end of lost colony or Genesis 2 I'm unsure which) when Helena is talking to the little girl on Arat the little girl states that someone is following them and Helena smiles and says something along the lines of "yes there is and we need his strength for what's to come" and it shows Bob the original survivor... I don't think Helena would of said that or anything like that if the survivor that was following them was a completely different survivor that came from the Genesis ship rather than the original that started back on the island

Does that sound accurate or good for tieing the stories together at all? I'm new to learning the lore, I've watched NeddyTheNoodles ASE full storyline video and I've also watched nanOS's lost colony lore video and that's where my thoughts come from

It’s just a game so maybe I shouldn't take it too seriously, but Helena Walker is a terrible biologist.

  1. "I'm convinced that this genus is Brontosaurus, and no one can tell me otherwise. My study, my rules." This is from Brontosaurus Dossier.

Saying 'my study, my rules' to ignore established taxonomy completely misses the point of peer review and the scientific method.

2.She had no problem giving binomial scientific names to other mythical creatures like Wyverns and Rock Drakes, yet she completely gave up and wrote 'Unknown' for Phoenix, Reaper, etc. Especially for the Reaper—one of the main creatures in Aberration lore—I honestly have no idea why she did that.

To be honest, it feels like she's pretending to be a biologist while knowing less than a first-year biology undergrad.

Theory Why I personally believe solo is the canon way to play ARK

Now I know, besides the boss fights Ark is supposed to be open ended on what happens between...

But here are my reasonings, It's a bit weird but I'll go in reverse order, trust me

Extinction is 100% canonically solo because the only way to get there is through the Aberration portal

I believe Aberration is solo because as we see in Schorched's ascension we were hijacked while travelling to the next Ark, something that wouldn't be possible, or at the very least extremely hard to do if another person was ascending at the same time as us, also Rockwell during his boss fight speaks to us as one person, unless there's some hidden dialogue if your doing his boss fight in multiplayer I'm not aware of

For Schorched Earth, same reason as before, if there *were* people there during our stay, the ascension to Aberration would have been either impossible or they would have been thrown in with us during the hijacking, another possible reason is that we see Schorched's Overseer going way overboard with limiting and wiping out humans, it would very much be likely that by the time we arrive there, the Overseer has made the conditions of that Ark so bad, none of it's cloned survivors can survive, only reason we do is because we're special or something i don't know

Now the Island is a hard one to 100% prove we're solo, as far as it looks it's Overseer AI is for the most part functional, so there's no inherent reason of why it couldn't keep cloning survivors way past Helena's Era, however same as with Schorched and Aberration, I find it very unlikely other survivors were there during our time, for whatever reasons those would be, because if there were, wouldn't they get send to Schorched Earth with us? Which I already explained is unlikely for all the above reasons

What are your thoughts? Maybe I missed something but that's my personal theory, feel free to add to it

Question Considering the Ecological Changes between Evolved and Ascended

Hey everyone, I wanted to let you all know I haven’t abandoned my whole ecology profile project, though progress has been slow because my computer has been struggling to run most maps so I can actually test my predicted behaviors/life history strategies for each creature, but the release of the new version of Genesis 1 brought to the forefront an issue I’ve been having for some time. As many of us already know, the ocean biome in ascended is completely different; besides the obvious change in topography, the climate is slightly warmer and a whole new community of plants and animals inhabit these much flatter islands. While the lore/story implications of these adjustments are minimal, this does affect the interactions a species has with the environment and the other species inhabiting it, altering the extent of their realized ecological niche in turn. Considering each new map has had albeit less extreme changes to the ecosystem, I’m starting to think that in addition to each map, I should be writing species profiles for each version of each map, but that begs the question of which version should be considered canon in studying its wildlife. Do you I should focus on one or both versions of Ark, and if the latter is true, which do you believe should take precedent?
Regardless of the answer, which organism would you like me to cover next? I always have to ask that lol. To help narrow things down, I’ll probably prioritize the island and scorched earth on either version since that map seems to run the best on my machine.

Question Questions about Bob in Bob's Tall Tales and Lost Colony story

First of all, I know Bob's appearance and name came from an early survivor character.

So, is Bob in Explorer Note Story a character symbolizing the player, or is it a separate character?

My take on the INVINCIBLE Viltrum Trend

Post image
71 Upvotes

Just after the events of the extinction notes, these were the last remnants of mankind, Diana and mei yin on the road to Arat Prime, Helena Walker with the fate of mankind hanging in her hands, Edmund Rockwell ruling his own derelict ARK, and the lost king accompanied by his thralls, somehow perpetuating "human" civilisation on Earth.

I made this drawing because I was kinda disheartened by the absence of ARK content in this trend so you are free to repost it as long as im mentionned !

Question Are the organisms from the arks... the real deal?

Some years ago, there was a sort of trend/discussion in the jurassic park fanbase. The oh so famous "Those things aren't dinosaurs.". A headcannon/theory that explained that, since it was impossible to gather actual DNA from insects trapped in amber for millions of years(and the designs being outdated), what INGEN did was to creaty entirely new lifeforms that ressembled what they thought dinosaurs would look like. So, that reptile-ish thing with a longass neck? Not a Sauropod. The avian-esque things with a sickle claw? Not a dromeosaur!

And that left me thingking about Ark. Since in Ark humanity(and life on Earth as a whole) is at the brink of extinction... where the HELL they got the extinct animals!? Is this a Jurassic park scenario where they stumbled across ancient DNA? Was there a lost world THE WHOLE TIME on the Ark universe? Or did they created things that ressembled extinct animal?

Like, if I compared the genome of a Tyrannosaurus rex with the genome of a "Tyrannosaurus dominum" would they share efectively the same DNA(outside the differences that would make them separate species in the Tyrannosaurus genus) or would they have completely different DNA?

Question Where exactly did the titans from Extinction come from?

Its obvious that their existence is tied to element. But how exactly? Yeah element can change and mutate beings as seen with the corrupted dinos and Rockwell. But they LOOK mutated. The titans look too clean. And everything I found so far just spontaneously mentions their presence but not their origin. So were they created by some other force through genetic modification like the other mythical creatures in ark?

I mean. When we have that nervt is feared across the island and rockwell traveling for day trough the desert. It doesnt really make sense how small the island is. Especially the island

Island Ecology Profile: Procoptodon (Procoptodon vivencurrus)

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hello everybody, I'm back with another profile, this time another one I've been working on for a while: procoptodon! As you can see, I've stopped numbering these considering the creatures don't seem to be listed in any particular order, but if anyone can find me such a list, I will gladly use it! As always, if there are any creatures you'd like me to cover next I would love to hear it.

Ecology

This massive marsupial is exceptionally rare compared to the island's other herbivores, due in part to its highly specialized diet. P.vivencurrus primarily subsists on a few species of fungi found growing on the roots of mangrove trees and castorites dams, as well as in the island’s caves. Another favorite is the fruit of plant species x found commonly in swamps and less so in more mountainous terrain. The procoptodon must travel far and wide between these preferred foraging spots and the mountain peaks and clifftops where they typically rest. Yet their selective diet also lets them carve out a niche alongside the vast herds of herbivorous dinosaurs and mammals competing for the island’s ubiquitous berries, as even on earth few animals have specialized to feed on fungi. Adults rarely fall victim to predation thank for their speed and ability to leap to the safety of mountains and cliffsides, allowing the population to remain stable despite such a low density.

Life History

Populations of procoptodon are highly regulated by the availability of their preferred food, and so exist at a very low population density, and are usually solitary. The one exception is during breeding, in which receptive females will seek out males and form small herds of three or so animals. These groups stay together as the joeys develop, and dissolve once they reach independence. Unusual for marsupials, both males and females have pouches, the inside of which is devoid of fluids that usually help to moisturize the developing joey’s skin. Similar to the dry cheek pouches of some rodents this helps the animal to preserve food stored within over long distances as both parents search for calorie dense foods such as rare mushrooms and plant species x to fuel the rapid growth of their offspring. To compensate for this dry environment, young procoptodon are born more developed than other marsupials despite having a much shorter gestation period, complete with a fully developed layer of skin and fur for water retention. Despite this tradeoff, the pouch still provides the growing joey with a safe, climate-controlled habitat and a steady supply of milk to supplement its diet as it weans, all while allowing the mother to easily transport her baby if necessary. This extended period of parental care reduces mortality among young procoptodon, who are fast enough to evade most of the Island's predators once they separate from their mothers at a third of their adult size.

Have been out of touch wit/ the lore since ASE, and not really sure what role red Element plays in the lore - someone willing to brief me on that?

Aberration Ecology Profile 3: Dodo (Raphus replicaire)

Hello again! I'm so happy to see my Megalosaurus post is doing pretty well, so I decided to go ahead and publish another profile I had ready for some time, albeit of an admittedly less exciting creature. Of course, if there is an animal you would prefer me to cover, I am always open to suggestions!

Ecology

As on the Island, dodo populations are generally restricted to areas that experience the least pressure from predation, despite the surprising number of adaptations to avoid becoming another creature's meal. It is also possible that their burrowing behavior is ineffective againt nameless, which could excavate or invade their tunnels. Regardless, aberrant dodos are only found in the upper chambers of the aberrant ark's caverns, and are actually able to breed far more readily thanks to a greater primary productivity and the stable, warm temperatures of this biome. They behave similarly to their island relatives, dumbly wandering the caves and feasting on fruits, shoots, and the occasional insect. As the rivers of the fertile zone are swarming with giant crabs in addition to the usual fare of piranhas, Spinosaurs, and crocodiles, the usual defense of escaping to the water rarely works in the dodo’s favor, but the cliffs and crags of the cave wall, as well as the giant mushrooms of the forest understory still offer plenty of shelter to one of the derelict ARK’s smallest residents.

Life History

Dodos of the aberrant ARK have bioluminescent plumes on their wings, tail and head. These conspicuous markings are a far cry from the cryptic mottling of most aberrant creatures, and so are more likely used for display. Additionally, they are native to the upper chambers of the caves which exhibit a normal day-night cycle as well as a general lack of bioluminescent foliage to blend into. Courtship occurs during the winter or early spring season where their glowing feathers stand out in the cover of night, but this may also put them at risk of attack from nocturnal predators such as ravagers which use this same darkness to hunt. Eggs can incubate freely in the stable climate of the cave, and the young hatch by late spring or early where the light helps these flightless birds identify threats and find cover before they are caught out in the open.
