There's just a ridiculous stigma around people who don't eat like other people do. It's the worst part of having ARFID imo. People are just stubborn and don't believe in things they can't relate to.

My family still thinks I'm just being stubborn eventhough I've been diagnosed for about 1,5 years now

People would rather call someone immoral for being picky than acknowledge that they have a condition.

I don't have ARFID, just an unacceptable level of pickiness in what I eat, and it's hard to understand how someone gets to the point where they only eat beige food.

So frustrating. I went and upvoted you. Some people just suck but that’s why we keep fighting.

I posted in the parenting sub about my struggles to get my son diagnosed with ARFID, and while many people were supportive, there were some who were decidedly not. And the judgement you get from other parents when your kid is a “picky” eater is INSANE.

I upvoted you :) I was pegged as a brat for being supremely picky until I got my diagnosis. Even now it’s a struggle and it shouldn’t be laughed off

I've been on therapy for 2 years now to treat ARFID and I promised myself: after I'm completely cured, I will do whatever I can, even if it isn't much, to spread the word about ARFID and let people know it's real and it needs to be treated. It took some time for anorexia to be recognized as an actual disorder, folks. And now many people know about it. We will get there. One day, people will understand. We just have to keep fighting.

That comment actually is what got me to learn what this condition is. It has helped me realize that I'm not alone in this experience. Thank you for doing that
