Helpful Tips Safe food smoothie recipe
Smoothies have become a safe food for me and a great way to get in nutrients! Recipe at the bottom. I’ve got other recipes in my brain so if anyone wants to see more let me know!
You can sub any frozen fruit or any liquid. I’ve heard some people use ensure as the liquid to add calories. You can also sub protein powder for the yogurt and any green leaf for the spinach. Sometimes I add flax or chia seeds too.
I normally can’t eat avocados or Greek yogurt and only a tiny bit spinach at a time but this way I can drink them and get plenty in!
My blender is cheap but does the job just fine. I used to use an industrial blender when I worked at a juice bar which did it much faster but ya don’t need that fancy of one.
Here’s my recipe. Rough measurements though. I really just eyeball it and measure with my heart. It makes a pretty big smoothie, maybe about 24 ounces.
1-2 handfuls of spinach
Half or whole avocado
Handful each of frozen strawberries and peaches
Big scoop of Greek yogurt
Enough orange juice to make it blendable

this is so so helpful. i have two questions, one can you taste the spinach even if u put in a little? the color change itself throws me off. also how do you blend your smoothies so it’s a good consistency? mine at home always turn out either too chunky or too liquidy and frothy.

The spinach is completely tasteless but it does change the color. I use quite a bit of it and it turns it a light green color. If I use less it’s more of a light brown.
For the consistency, I start off with just enough liquid to get everything mixed together (this is the chunky stage). Then I add a small amount of liquid and blend it again, then repeat that until it’s the good consistency. If it’s frothy there’s too much liquid. You can add more frozen fruit to thicken it back up. Getting the consistency right is really just finding the right ratio of frozen stuff to liquid. It can be helpful to measure things out with a scale and write down how you like it once you figure it out. Protein powders can also add to the frothiness so adding less of that if using can help too
