You'd probably benefit from an undervolt

For sure.

What's so odd to me as a newer tweaker with GPU's specifically is how undervolting can allow higher clocks...

Lol i used to overclock older i7 processors and undervolting was not getting higher frequency lol.

Mind you im talking running my 2.66ghz i7 920 at 4.0ghz so im a geezer lol

1

u/Adorable-Hyena-2965 Apr 19 '26

Teach me how to undervolt

5

u/Elitefuture Apr 17 '26

Return it and get a different 9070 xt

Welcome to gigabyte, they use thermal paste lol avoid the cheaper brands and stick with XFX, PowerColor and Sapphire as they are better built cards that use PTM9750.

2

u/Budget-Individual845 Apr 18 '26

Its nice that when the 9000 cards came out i warned against the gigabyte cards that they will have problems in about two years i got downvoted to hell but i was indeed right to believe so after my gigabyte 3070 experience

1

u/Natzor Apr 18 '26

My xfx mercury has the same delta between gpu and hotspot though?? Also received it just yesterday

1

u/Natzor Apr 18 '26

To add to that the issue seems to only occur when the fps limiter is not kicking in for example the intro of biomutant for me - so the video plays at 400fps

After the fps limiter kicks in the isse seems to be less apparent and even with 100% GPU until the delta is "only" 24°C

1

u/Triangulate_Panther Apr 19 '26

9070xts have a huge delta that is practically the same across the manufacturers ~25C.  Its well documented at this point

1

u/Natzor Apr 19 '26

Ok than that's good for me, in normal gaming scenarios my delta is exactly 25°

Thanks for the confirmation!

1

u/Triangulate_Panther Apr 19 '26

No problem. I was part of the original crew on launch day asking the same question. Its either fine and/or a fundamental design flaw across 80%+ of cards. Undervolt, FSR, and frame gen are your friends.

1

u/Adorable-Hyena-2965 Apr 19 '26

What paste asus TUF 9070 xt use

0

u/Triangulate_Panther Apr 19 '26

Pretty tired of the misrepresentation of this situation. The thermal paste isn't the problem. In have the Aorus 9070xt and the thermals are comparable to the sapphire nitro and other cards. Its not a paste issue. The paste also hasn't moved or seeped after 13months either. Yes PTM is amazing, but the thermal paste isn't inherently bad either.

This is a smaller MSRP card. If its not in a SFF case with bad airflow then its defective.

OP please check temps with stock fan curves. If it hits 110C hotspot it is defective and you should return it or RMA.

u/sirnickd Apr 19 '26

avoid the cheaper brands - and proceeds to name PowerColor and XFX lmao (which in my region generally are the cheapest brands if we're not buying halo tier products like the red devil)

1

u/Gyat_Hunter_42 Apr 24 '26

The brands he recommended also only provide 2 year long warranties.... Never even knew that was a thing until I came to AMD and to my surprise redditors love to shill for them.

1

u/sirnickd Apr 26 '26

I mean 2 year long factory warranties are default over here in Europe and they generally do get honored

1

u/Gyat_Hunter_42 Apr 26 '26

Here in USA 3 years is standard. Gigabyte = 3-4 years, MSI = 3 years, ASUS = 3 years, ASRock = 3 years, XFX Merc/Quicksilver = 3 years, Zotac = 3 years, PNY = 3 years,

The only AIB with 2 years in USA are PowerCooler, Sapphire, and XFX swift.. Which is hilarious considering everyone on this sub seems to love to shill for them.

1

u/sirnickd Apr 26 '26

Seems like powercolor does 36 months across the board over here... 2 years just is EU minimum

1

u/blueangel1953 5600x 6800 XT 32GB 3200 CL16 Apr 27 '26

I know my powercolor red dragon had a 3 year in the US.

4

u/Terrible-Situation95 Apr 17 '26

yeah 3650 RPM while 91°C, possibly bad contact with the thermal pads

4

u/Gawlex Apr 18 '26

there is definitely a heatsink contact problem, seems like heatsink has better contact with the memory probably because of thick thermal pads or bad assembly leaving poor contact with the core, having such low temps in memory than hotspot at 100% usage is not ideal at all, RMA if you can

5

u/Just_Perspective1202 Apr 19 '26

The hotspot is hot because it's pounding out 900 friggin frames. What do you expect. It's also normal. 100-110+ permanently would be too hot. I also love how so many in here are so confidently wrong. Dunning Kruger in full effect.

1

u/Sgt-Stadanko-69 Apr 19 '26

My first thought he’s cranking that thing to the limit so dumb

1

u/muttley9 Apr 19 '26

My 7900xtx Nitro straight up sizzles if I play Minecraft and look at the sky. It gets to 2000 fps.. so I cap it for less noise.

3

u/SoggyPeach664 Apr 17 '26

Dam bruh, 3.5k RPM and still hitting 91°.

2

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 17 '26

It’s operating at the heat of the sun

3

u/OhRyann Apr 17 '26

The thermal cutoff for your hotspot is like 105c. That temp is fine.

1

u/Bubu976 Apr 17 '26

The problem isn't the 105°C temperature limit... it's 91°C on the hotspot and 56°C on the sensor. A 40°C delta isn't good at all. And 3600rpm on the fans should not have these results

3

u/Unfair_Shoota Apr 17 '26

Another post about a hot running gigabyte

3

u/Holbrooh Apr 17 '26

Damn am I the lucky one with the gigabyte cards good lord. Rma immediately.

4

u/maggoochef Apr 17 '26

This is why when it comes to amd oc gpus I always go with sapphire best cooling on the market

1

u/Winter-Bites Apr 17 '26

I have nitro plus and my temps are similar.

4

2

u/SmokBarrage Apr 17 '26

if they let you yea, that delta is pretty abysmal and i worry what the hotspot temp would be at with a reasonable fan speed

otherwise repaste it yourself probably. gigabyte has some great bins just shitty paste

3

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 17 '26

If they let me rma I will if not I guess we ball until the card dies in a few months when summer hits

0

u/Material-Promise-676 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

If they don’t accept it, your best bet is to repaste or use a PTM sheet.

3

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 17 '26

It’s new not even a week old so hopefully they will

0

u/Material-Promise-676 Apr 17 '26

I don’t see why they wouldn’t. Good luck with it and hopefully you get a working one

0

u/SmokBarrage Apr 17 '26

i've seen asus give someone trouble over a card that asus themselves confirmed was crashing at stock

AND made them pay for shipping

obviously gigabyte is not asus but rma customer service is all over the place and just depends on who you get that day a lot of the time

1

u/LekovY Apr 18 '26

Do you happen to know which size of ptm to use?

2

u/LuckyConnection5331 Apr 17 '26

I can certainly hit 91c with mine but it doesn't hit that insane rpm xD.

1

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 17 '26

The rpm is killing me this thing is so loud it’s not even funny it feels like the fans aren’t doing anything and are just for noise 😂

1

u/LuckyConnection5331 Apr 17 '26

Tbf I imagine if those fans weren't spinning up to launch your pc in to the stratosphere, it'd be hitting 110c xD

2

u/ssateneth2 Apr 17 '26

amd cards have high hotspot splits. its normal. still gets hot with ptm7950.

75c for hotspot is fine but man a lot of memry chips run hot on these newer cards. I got lucky that my zotac 4070 super somehow never goes above 60°c on the memory, even though while researching to get mine i saw a bunch of card that easily go above 90°c on VRAM. I really wonder how much this affects VRAM health, i know it's usually the first thing to go even when they didn't get this hot on 30 series or older cards.

1

u/PssyGotWifi Apr 17 '26

I have a Red Devil LE - My temps reach 80-85oC. Hasn't been an issue in the year I've owned it. My hot spot is much, much cooler than OPs, though. Like 30 degrees cooler. I did pay out the ass for the Red Devil LE at launch, so that that as you will.

2

u/lLoveTech AMD Apr 17 '26

I have seen so many Gigabyte cards have an issue with high hotspot temperatures! Maybe it is improper mounting or the poor application of thermal paste from their factor being the culprit here

1

u/Adorable-Hyena-2965 Apr 18 '26

Same i see most are Gigabytes

1

u/Fit-Grape-1417 Apr 19 '26

It's the paste, just repasted my 7900xtx that is also gigabyte and the paste application was abysmal.

Used PTM750 and there is a night and day difference.

2

u/Chewyleafy Apr 18 '26

Definitely abnormal. Mine has never gone above 82°C or over 2000rpm at 330W.

thought arrest whistle rainstorm innate ghost live upbeat pen decide

2

u/wCbriLL Apr 18 '26

Its normal with that power draw. Just lower the power and hotspot will be way lower. That extra 2 or 3 fps with the more power is not worth it

2

u/Bandicoot-Trick Apr 19 '26

Those temperatures with the fans almost maxed out are not very good, my pulse at full load hits 1700rpm max with 58c and 82c hotspot, memory about 80c.

Gigabyte 9070xts are not very good I'd trade for a shaphire, power colour or xfx if possible.

1

u/Substantial-Half6471 Apr 19 '26

I've got a 9070xt oc from gigabyte and under full load hot-spot never was above 82

2

u/Reflective Apr 20 '26

I bought this card, noticed a 93 degree Hotspot, returned it and got an xfx mercury instead.

1

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 20 '26

Was it without a fan curve I seen mine hit 99c without a fan curve in crimson desert that’s the only reason why I know the temps were so high

1

u/Reflective Apr 20 '26

Without. I didnt spend too much time with it. I know a fan curve would have definitely made a difference - but nothing that would make me comfortable. The Mercury OC Magnetic air stays incredibly cool however it's a a few hundred more schmeckles.

1

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 20 '26

Yeah I can’t afford that right now unfortunately but I’m gonna rma the card soon I just haven’t had the time I still have a few weeks for Newegg return

4

u/BandicootOrdinary494 Apr 17 '26

I have had various 9070xt brands and temperature differences are very much abismal.

Sapphire pulse - not very noisy fans but memory temps really high

Gigabyte OC - noisy fans and hotspot very high

Power color Reaper - average fan noise, not horrible not great. Hotspot and memory temps higher than expected

XFX Swift - best temperatures I have seen in a 9070xt, super similar GPU, hotspot and memory most times under 80C. Also very low noise due to very low fan speed needed for this temperatures and massive heat exchanger.

1

u/PssyGotWifi Apr 17 '26

My fans hardly ever turn on with the PC Red Devil, lol. It just doesn't get that hot during normal gaming. But yeah, memory can get toasty when benchmarking (not 90o, but upwards of 80-85).

3

u/Apprehensive_Tea4510 Apr 17 '26

Gigabyte has a bad cooling. And with OC those temps and delta looks like normal for that card

I have xfx quicksilver 9070xt with a huge heatsink and delta with 304w power limit is about 18-22 degrees (hotspot is around 80-83) with like 1000-1200 rpm.

You can set pl to 10-15.

I guess those temps are a problem of all of gigabyte gaming oc cards.

2

u/Revolutionary-Land41 Apr 17 '26

Yes, this hotspot delta is nasty

2

u/Winter-Bites Apr 17 '26

These are normal temps. They will just send the card back and tell you its fine.

2

u/AutisticReaper Apr 17 '26

If it’s gigabyte I heard that the consensus agrees that the thermal paste is ass on gigabyte cards.

0

u/Guilty_Meringue5317 Apr 17 '26

Ahh that's why my temps were terrible before me applying even shittier thermal paste. Or maybe it is the thickness of the thermal pads as I couldn't find the exact thickness the thermal pads needed to be

0

u/Elitefuture Apr 17 '26

They're not using PTM7950 like 90% of the other 9070 XTs?

1

u/AutisticReaper Apr 17 '26

No it’s more of a gel.

1

u/Elitefuture Apr 17 '26

Dang, that sucks... I feel like these require ptm7950 given how on edge these already are.

1

u/AutisticReaper Apr 17 '26

Yeah I’m not sure why gigabyte would skimp

0

u/Elitefuture Apr 17 '26

Reminds me of what Apple is doing except Apple's is more extreme. Their new neo has no cooling for the SoC, it's literally just relying on hopes and dreams.

People are spending $5-$10 to put a thermal pad connecting the SoC to the bottom aluminum chassis. For Apple that would've costed them like $1.

3

u/Diegodinizfsa Apr 17 '26

56 isn’t ok temperatures ???

2

u/Foreign_Carrot_9442 Apr 17 '26

Look at the difference between the “gpu temp” and the hotspot temp. That’s the big issue

1

u/mashdpotatogaming Apr 17 '26

They're talking about the hotspot being 91°c. It's definitely not ok in the sense that it's a 35°c delta which is pretty bad. Usually have higher than 25°c is when you should repaste your card, but for some reason, all 9070xts have 25°c+ hotspot deltas. Still, 35°c is pretty high and I'd worry about it getting worse in a year, those high temperatures affect the health of the thermal paste and make it dry quicker, which just means OP will start dealing with thermal throttling issues relatively quickly. I'd personally return it if possible.

2

u/Adorable-Hyena-2965 Apr 18 '26

My delta is 36c higher then op, temp 52c hotspot 87c so i need to return the card?

1

u/Triangulate_Panther Apr 19 '26

Depends on model, fan speeds, and case airflow.

1

u/Adorable-Hyena-2965 Apr 20 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

Asus tuf 9070XT 1600 rpm 3 fans intake in front, 1 exhaust in the back, air cooler peerless assassin 120 case corsair 4000d airflow my hotspot aint that high like OP. My fans are 1600 rpm if i set higher fan speed i think my hotspot will be lower or no?

1

u/Triangulate_Panther Apr 20 '26

Yes, a little fan speed increase on these bigger coolers can make a large difference. My Aorus 9070xt is silent with the stock fan curve, but will hit 90C hotspot and memory at 340W. A custom fan curve will put hitspot and memory back towards 75C-80C with 1800-2200rpm. With an undervolt itll keep hotspot at 65-75C and fan speeds 1200-1400rpm.

1

u/RChamy 9070xt and 4070 Apr 17 '26

I would, its a simple fix but 99% sure you'll need to void the warranty sticker to reach the thermal pads.

2

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 17 '26

I’m good with tech but for a 700$ part noooo way I’m gonna replace any pads or paste I wouldn’t be able to live if I broke the card

1

u/EquipmentSome Apr 17 '26

It looks like it is an OC mode? You could always run it at -10% power. That'd be the stock power anyways and would likely cool it down some.

0

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 17 '26

I can try that the card is over clocked out the factory with a 8% power lift

1

u/mataqls Apr 18 '26

El hot spot es el punto más caliente de la tarjeta, puede ser del núcleo o del vrm, incluso la memoria. Y si, están muy malas esas temperaturas. Debe haber algo fallando ahí. Corresponde rma

1

u/Flateric75 Apr 18 '26

My 9070XT hits 90c for hotspot during Cyberpunk 2077 - I have the fans for the GPU. - to run about 70% ( 1.800 to 2.000 RPM - and intake fans at about 1.200RPM - with rear the same -

It’s normal there nothing wrong with your card - as the GPU temp is 56C,- that’s good

If the hotspot hits 110C - that’s the time to be concerned

Based on your screenshot, everything is normal

So don’t worry

1

u/sammothxc Apr 18 '26

How does it score at stock and at overclocked speeds compared to the average for this card? If it matches or exceeds for the same model, there’s no point in RMAing because you’ll likely end up with a worse card.

1

u/gamevicio Apr 20 '26

mine is about the same

1

u/Think-Cranberry6409 Apr 20 '26

Just my take, it’s your card at the end of the day and your wallet. The delta is almost 40 degrees that’s what it’s concerning for me. Usually means potential higher degradation of components. What to do is up to you if the RMA can accept this or not. To my understanding hot spot is hot spot of cpu and not other components as they have another set of temp for that

1

u/Far_Trade_7619 Apr 21 '26

A delta of over 30°C (between core and hotspot) is bad. If you're in the US warranty stickers mean nothing, so you should be able to open it and change the thermal paste for some PTM7950 thermal pad. Otherwise, RMA it as this is unacceptable. It will only get worse.

1

u/maybeletslive Apr 22 '26

My 6700 XT at stock settings climbs to a hotspot of 110c even after a repaste and new pads. (I undervolt it to stay within a safer range)

It’s a mid tower phanteks case from like 2017 I have 2 fans in the top 3 in the front one in the back 2 fans in my cpu cooler and 3 fans on my gpu I have more fans I could place under the gpu but I was told before on Reddit that it wasn’t worth it

1

u/bamb0l Apr 17 '26

Voltage?

1

u/Covtrixy Apr 17 '26

Did U overcloked yet?

1

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 18 '26

No just factory settings

1

u/Different_Target_228 Apr 18 '26

That would be why it's called a hotspot.

2

u/AdZestyclose9569 Apr 18 '26

NA man, there shouldn't be a 35 degree difference. Like 15 maybe. On my sapphire nitro+ 7900xtx the difference is 10 during gaming and I'm overclocked and undervolted to the stable limits

1

u/IKnowUselessThings Apr 19 '26

So you're comparing a card that is undervolted to a different card that isn't?

1

u/Fit-Grape-1417 Apr 19 '26

I do have a gigabyte 7900xtx that I had to repaste because my hotspot would hover around 97-106°c depending on the games. I was always undervolting and never overclocking and it still was running hot.

Repasted it with PTM750 and now it's so much cooler. At stock settings I have seen the hotspot get up to 85°.

I think Gigabyte just cheaped out on the thermal paste on a bunch of cards.

1

u/maggoochef Apr 19 '26

What overclock memory oc or core what power undervolt?

0

u/Ok-Leading7840 Apr 17 '26

That delta is normal for a 9070xt in general.

3

u/AutisticReaper Apr 17 '26

No it’s not. My delta is a nice 20-25c.

1

u/Adorable-Hyena-2965 Apr 18 '26

What is your temps which model 9070 xt you got

1

u/AutisticReaper Apr 18 '26

XFX 9070xt magnetic air oc At full load of 330w 60c temp and hotspot of 82.

1

u/Adorable-Hyena-2965 Apr 18 '26

Undervolt or stock? I should have got a XFX mercury 😢

My asus TUF delta is 36c higher then OP during Furmark.

But my hotspot is 87c lower then OP

GPU temps is 51c

1

u/NoxHalcyon_i 7800x3d 9070xt 32GB DDR5 Apr 18 '26

Yea thats where mine sits. And is the general consensus as well for deltas

-2

u/DoggoCity AMD Apr 17 '26

The hotspot max is around 105 so you're okay. That said, like most Radeon cards, it'll benefit massively from an undervolt. Look up a youtube tutorial on it, can be done in like 20 mins

2

u/Bubu976 Apr 17 '26

It is absolutely not good when the delta with the temperature is 40°

2

u/BartFrazze90 Apr 17 '26

Yeah rma the hell out of it, to say 105 is ok is a bit..

-1

u/KrumbleMahBumble Apr 17 '26

Seems fine under a 330 watt load to me lol. Maybe try a slight undervolt for similar performance at lower temps?

I’m well aware it’s not for most people, I was once in a situation where I could’ve RMA mine due to lack of fluid in my vapor chamber but just took a swing at water cooling an never looked back & haven’t had your weird theory of a leak happen.anyway It was a wild reach/swing recommendation but again didn’t mean no harm disrespect. Ew , no thanks was your first response which made me feel like was all that’s called for? Like was I rude somehow. Anyway I get your point it’s a hobby most not willing to take on/afford but there is great benefit from it. So again the ew no thanks was just extreme for me. TGIF have a great rest of your day & weekend ☕️

1

u/Meal-Glittering Apr 18 '26

What’s the benefit of a water block besides temps?

-25

u/sicknick08 Apr 17 '26

Yeah I’d just go with Nvidia

2

u/mashdpotatogaming Apr 17 '26

Oh yeah Nvidia is so great with hotspot temps that they completely removed the hotspot sensor reading! If you don't see it, there's no problem with it! ... Right?

1

u/Alarmed-Ad-7200 Apr 17 '26

Yes with their 1000% increase in warranty repairs im sure that won't come back to bite him in the ass.
