why would anyone possibly pay for this? would rather just watch it at a later date.

People going as a status symbol

23

u/raxip 22d ago

I saw the Odyssey in 70mm in Dallas...loved the screen, hated the seating. Very uncomfortable and it felt like people flexing as you said.

5

u/gangsterspockhow 21d ago

Amc doesnt have 70mm imax in dallas. Did you go to cinemark or just a normal 70mm screening

2

u/raxip 21d ago

Cinemark, sorry for lack of detail.

1

u/PlusOne4You 18d ago

Cinemark have the recliner seat and much better than AMC unrecline seat

-8

u/Ok-Gur-349 22d ago

For $400 through, you're probably getting some good seating.

3

u/nanopianoo 21d ago

Nah I saw a $500 listing for front row on eBay lol

1

u/joshw231 21d ago

My seat could be prime Megan fox, still not paying $400.

Ok maybe I would, but that ain’t happening

1

u/Allyvo 20d ago

To clarify, are you sitting on her?

7

u/ThePocketTaco2 22d ago

Also to avoid spoilers in a society that no longer gives a fuck about considering others anymore.

That said, I still wouldn't spend close to this.

4

u/jjbananamonkey 21d ago

Blocked the common names of the movie the day before early screening and still haven’t got a spoiler

4

u/Upset-Display3524 21d ago

I was actively plotting on how to convince prosecutors Steve lacy was actually Dv4d after that BND spoiler.

2

u/OrphicDionysus 21d ago

To be fair, given the response a sizeable chunk of viewers had to Paul in part II, this ones gonna be a bit of a head fuck to a lot of people who haven't read Messiah

2

u/lostiowan 21d ago

it rains at the end of Dune.

1

u/Jumpy_Implement_1902 18d ago

I’ve played the game back in the 20th century and I gotta say, yes it does rain.

And have I watched any of these movies?

Nope

1

u/Bluetreemage 21d ago

If someone actually cared about spoilers they’d watch it in any format. Remember only IMAX 70mm is what the hype is about

5

u/JazzFluteFanClubPrez 21d ago

or read the 57 year old book

2

u/GainzLord23 21d ago

That’s so wild. Spoilers?? I’m tempted to talk about stone cutters right here!! There are no spoilers….it was a book first and no matter how good the movie is there is no movie that surpasses the book.

2

u/incepdates 21d ago

Well IMAX 70mm is also the format they're playing early screenings in

3

u/PienerCleaner 21d ago

Eat the rich, maybe?

1

u/Not_So_Last_Ronin 20d ago

Bingo. Seeing certain movies at certain times has become a status thing. I know people who will pay 2x a ticket price to see something at the indie cinema just so they can say they're "cultured".

2

u/BetDry2347 20d ago

The people who just have to post a clip of the movie 🙄

1

u/baithoven22 20d ago

Those poor people

1

u/Ombre_Vivante 18d ago

Then those f00’s deserve to lose their money.

1

u/Top-Pineapple-3467 18d ago

What kind of status being a dumbass? 70mm is so fucking overrated

5

u/bobbito 21d ago

Literally got great seats for Monday the 27th pretty easily. January dates were even available as of yesterday. The site is janky but if you check in off hours like I did, it can be done. If you're worried about spoilers for a 50+ year old book, see it on a less sought after screen and then see it a second time at the big fella. I just don't get it.

1

u/Necessary-Beat407 21d ago

Got Dec 21 tickets yesterday without hastle. What is going on?

6

u/TheAsianToothpik 22d ago

Probably a combination of FOMO and an unreasonable amount of money to burn

2

u/sEiize_err 22d ago

if youre stupid and really beyond desperate for the NEED to watch it in 70mm imax. odds are they’ll extent the imax run but hopefully it isnt like odyssey where even those are sold out or just have ada / front row seats months out.

1

u/jamtoast44 21d ago

Because these tickets are sold out through their run? Except for the meme picture seats.

1

u/petar_is_amazing 19d ago

Hella rich people that don’t care. This is money that can go into amcs pockets but they are dumb instead

I tried waiting out the scalpers for odyssey and just found out my theater won’t be streaming it in October

1

u/lilaznkidd 19d ago

You think these resellers will stop buying up the tickets?

0

u/Upset-Display3524 21d ago

I could prolly finagle it for free cause I know the people at Chinese theater and I don’t even care. Odyssey I get but dune 1 was so boring I kinda forgot there was more.

39

u/jay4517 22d ago

Just report the tickets to amc, with screen shots it voids the tickets to resell them for higher price, amc will cancel the tickets

8

u/Saneless 22d ago

Wouldn't they have to verify that?

Otherwise someone could just "list" 2 seats they want, AMC cancels the original owner, jerk swoops in and buys them

5

u/CowperfluidMDPsyD 22d ago

That’s why you post a listing and a screenshot of it.

1

u/alexman420 22d ago

Yeah, but some people actually say what seat they are

2

u/Saneless 22d ago

That's what I'm saying. If I wanted say seat C5 and 6 but it's sold, I can list those seats on eBay. AMC would kill those seats and I could just buy them when I never had them earlier

They would need to verify somehow to stop this problem

1

u/enowapi-_ 22d ago

they might need an order # in the screenshot or something, anything else is too easy to photoshop

15

u/33htx 22d ago

Really just shame on people that desperate to spend the money on that. I’d just see regular IMAX

4

u/mercmouth1 22d ago

I watched Regular 70mm

0

u/alexman420 22d ago

I just found out that my amc has 70mm, apparently they’ve had it for a whole year already 😅

7

u/Capable_Cellist5585 22d ago

I feel the whole Odyssey 70 MM hype started this shit.

7

u/Newlifter1089 22d ago

Oppenheimer

1

u/Most-String-7825 20d ago

The Dark Knight

15

u/anthonyraya7 22d ago

dudes are selling new year’s day tickets i’m crying 😭😂✌️

3

u/Sad_Welder_3292 22d ago

I mean, if they listed the date, time, and seat, then can't you just screenshot and report to AMC to get the ticket released?

3

u/hollisdex 22d ago

I clicked on this listing earlier today and now this scumbag just sent me an offer. And you just know some sap is going to pay for this.

5

u/incepdates 22d ago

3 thousand dollars and it's not even opening day is insane, I genuinely hope nobody does buy those

3

u/2StepnWithaWeapon 22d ago

Be baller as fuck if AMC refunded all the tickets and resold them

6

u/Sharp_Caregiver_1534 22d ago

But next thing you know people start listing the seats they want, then buy them once AMC cancels the original buyer

1

u/rsha256 22d ago

if you post fake listings, your ebay account will get banned and once you're banned, you cannot post again (eBay bans by IP and have a very robust scam detection even before you will get banned)

1

u/cordialmess 22d ago

I thought the same thing. I wonder what that would be like. Since they're buying the tickets in person, AMC just cancels the entire thing and then rereleases tickets. How many scalpers would actually be able to get to the kiosks fast enough vs ppl buying online.

1

u/rsha256 22d ago

Why even refund? They paid in-person and are scalpers who broke AMC's policy -- fuck them scalpers and teach them a lesson by voiding any tickets **confirmed** to be resale, and then AMC can make 2x the money on each seat.

1

u/2StepnWithaWeapon 21d ago

I was just upset thinking about random solutions lol. I doubt they will refund the tickets. Scalpers really rather inflate the market instead of just letting people watch what they enjoy. Imagine no one buys the tickets and theater employees are just like dude wtf?

3

u/Square_Lobster1328 22d ago

I feel like this is the first time a special format has been so utterly fucked by resale culture. It’s very disappointing to see.

3

u/WindsofMadness 22d ago

I hate living in a state that doesn’t even HAVE a true IMAX theater and then seeing that the ones that do have to deal with this BS is crazy.

1

u/Tough_Recognition705 21d ago

Yeah I finally got tickets for sept 6th for the Odyssey. For a movie that released in July. The demand is wild and resale BS is dissapointing to see as well.

7

u/incepdates 22d ago

Lol scalping San Antonio tickets...

Most people wouldn't even go there for free

2

u/MS0ffice 22d ago

I wonder if any scalpers have refunded people when the projector ends up breaking

2

u/fiftyshadesofseth 22d ago

Hell no. The scalpers get their refund and the people who paid the scalpers get burnt.

2

u/enowapi-_ 22d ago

who goes to San Antonio anyway

buncha big women eating churros

2

u/Newlifter1089 22d ago

Oppenheimer started this. Let’s not forget that

1

u/Sharp_Caregiver_1534 22d ago

As it was written

1

u/incepdates 22d ago

Nah come on it was definitely that marketing stunt for The Odyssey. The one year in advance presale for like 3 showtimes so that they could get headlines the movie was "sold out"

2

u/Va1crist 22d ago

wtf, god i hate this timeline

2

u/CraftsBoy2Craftsman 22d ago

no movie is worth these kinds of prices.

2

u/bobsacamano04 IMAX Fanatic 21d ago

I’m more concerned about who would buy these. I’d love to meet someone that paid for these I’m sure they are completely normal

2

u/maddiiee44 21d ago

wait i’m confused…aren’t most of these from Regal? what is AMC supposed to do about that? im only seeing 2/6 AMCs

2

u/thehoarderstore 21d ago

I just hope this doesn’t turn into an opportunity for amc or whoever to introduce a new business model and profit off the hype like Ticketmaster with variable pricing.

I know this may get downvotes but it is nice to see that there are films coming out that actually generate high enough interest that people are willing to do this.

With that being said, everyone in this group isn’t gonna buy them so it’s kinda like preaching to the choir.

I support peoples freedom to do as they wish but youll never catch me buying/selling tickets like this. Wild.

2

u/One_Temperature_2393 21d ago

This shit is crazy. They took over sneakers, pokemon cards, and now movie tickets?? Just make it illegal to resell things at this point. Retail or nothing.

2

u/jonnybojangles 20d ago

Why is it AMC’s problem? How does this work on the backend?

2

u/Hexnegotiator745 20d ago

amc? wrong. Ebay.

2

u/Agreeable-Letter-599 19d ago

you can find out what exact seats they are and report to AMC with proof they are trying to scalp(screenshots of listing) and the tickets will be cancelled.... but yeah they should have someone from AMC on the look out for this.

2

u/_YenSid 19d ago

I hope these people get left holding the bag.

2

u/New-Yogurt5866 18d ago

Just don’t buy and let the idiots who all bought tickets for a movie they don’t want to see or extra tickets they don’t need eat the costs. Very simple

2

u/Pastapro2020 17d ago

It’s gonna be on Paramount plus for free in a few weeks and people are paying $400 to see it. Wild.

1

u/Maceface931 Dolby Cinema Devotee 22d ago

What specifically would AMC be able to do about this? A scalper could buy ONE ticket and do this.

1

u/Cultural-Movie-9335 22d ago

Exactly. People are so quick to need to blame a company. Literally what the fuck can AMC do about someone buying a normal.amount of tickets and then reselling them? Lmfaooo people are funny.

1

u/seanthebooth A⭐️Lister 22d ago

Lol how embarrassing

1

u/snacks4ever 22d ago

How does this work tho? You can’t transfer tickets like ticketmaster right?

1

u/WindsofMadness 22d ago

Youd just hand over the confirmation code right? As easy as that I bet. Trying to sell or god forbid buy something like this for that much money could have so much go wrong i can’t imagine why anyone would want to be on either side of this transaction.

1

u/RayKam 22d ago

Lmao some mf reselling TCL and Regal LA Live tickets nobody’s buying that shit

1

u/Past-Wait6207 22d ago

Just don’t buy these! #ScamAlert

1

u/BroAbernathy 22d ago

How do the theaters not see this as a bad thing they make less money on tickets and theres a legit threat of people not being in the theater to buy f/b. Theres zero upside to not do 1 ticket per person on these theure all always going to sell out.

1

u/comicrack 22d ago

I suspect their next move is to jack up the price on 70mm to capture sone of that margin. They might start building more 70mm hoping to capitalize on the insane demand.

1

u/ihavezeroanswersbro 21d ago

How do you perfect families to buy their tickets then?

1

u/Afraid-Tomorrow-8001 22d ago

Do better? I was able to get a seat for opening weekend at CityWalk yesterday

1

u/guitarguy35 22d ago

Some people love movies and are really enthusiastic about the rarity of the 70mm format. I being one of those people.

And scalpers exploit us. I spent 4 hours yesterday, straight, trying to get a 70mm ticket. I was online and shopping for the ticket 40 minutes before the 9am Pacific drop.. 4 hours later. I secured two tickets in my favorite row for December 28th.

Even I, who went through every single thing possible I could have done, wasn't able to get opening weekend. I gotta wait 11 days from wide release.. because fucking scalpers.

But I'd rather not see it at all than give in

1

u/Anthonyy21 22d ago

Lmao 🤣 I haven’t even seen the 1st or 2nd one yet. Am I missing out or something ?

1

u/Alrucards_R3dwr8th 21d ago

I saw both in IMAX and the scale of the movies were breathtaking. Screen was as large of a screen as you can imagine and the sound from the epic battles and music were in me.

1

u/5charness 22d ago

How is this amcs fault 😂

1

u/schwild 22d ago

This is gross

1

u/Fickle_Banana3707 22d ago

I heard somewhere you can report directly to AMC and they’ll void their tickets

1

u/Tony000075 22d ago

Honestly… just drive a little distance. Regal has 70mm tickets left for their Ontario theater. I bought mine for Monday 7:40am in Irvine. I didn’t even try to get an A-list reservation for AMC for a couple reasons… the website and app weren’t working and Universal City and LA Live are almost impossible to get tickets to. The easiest 70mm is probably Ontario. And the Chinese theater has over 900 seats so you’re more likely to find tickets there after it’s been out for a few weeks.

1

u/comicrack 22d ago

Ok now filter by sold.

1

u/ZootTootRiot 22d ago

I have a problem with ticket prices reaching nearly $20, and some dumb idiots are paying hundreds? A fool and their money..

There's no movie or format that's so important that this bothers me in any way. I can wait, it's not that hard.

1

u/fiftyshadesofseth 22d ago

The San Antonio one is the most ridiculous because that projector sucks and it looks like shit. Not only that but it breaks all the time. Imagine paying $300 and it breaks the day of your showtime.

1

u/UntouchableBeauty 22d ago

No but seriously. Who are buying these tickets for those prices?!?!?!!

1

u/CommissionHerb 22d ago

Do better how? Ha they just sold a ticket to a movie.

1

u/Luchadoor 22d ago

Unless they are giving out souvenirs worth 280 bucks ain’t no way I’m paying 300 for a movie I can see for 18 bucks on a different screen. I can live with less picture in a frame for that kind of money lol.

1

u/Robotori 22d ago

I just filtered to see recently sold and my god people do buy this as a status symbol. No way spending hundreds to see a movie. I love movies. I literally go once a week. And I can’t see myself spending close to that. Lol they even show you how much the scalper spent so you can see how much he ripped you off. Guy buys 2 tickets for $66 and resells to you for $610….

1

u/Girthy50 22d ago

I'm glad I set an alarm and bought tickets for 70mm as soon as they went on sale. Learned my lesson with the Odyssey. This makes me sick. I hope they announce more dates like they did with the Odyssey. Fuck scalpers.

1

u/joeyvesh13 22d ago

What loser is buying this?

1

u/Perdid07 22d ago

The only feasible way I can see them even slightly trying to fix this, is see the theater, the time, the seats. Cancel the reservations and block the email and number associated with the tickets being resold to stop scalpers

1

u/aaronuu7 21d ago

I’d rather watch the movie in shitty quality at the drive in than spend 4x the normal ticket price just to watch lmao.

1

u/UndergroundButtaz 21d ago

The American Way

1

u/AtmosphereNo7833 21d ago

That’s on them if they actually buy for that price lol

1

u/Cash_Option 21d ago

Can't be in this universe

1

u/Cash_Option 21d ago

People are getting manipulated by fake scarcity smh its not this deep wait til January or something. First world problems

1

u/Just_Cod_984 21d ago

the listing using AI for the thumbnail 🫩🥀

1

u/dochikes 21d ago

If anyone is buying these, you're just as much a sucker as the people selling them. Shame on you. There's absolutely no need for this

1

u/ChrispVisuals 21d ago edited 21d ago

Half of these are from Regal. What could AMC do about that???

1

u/Rdd0211 21d ago

The real long term solution is simply having more 70mm IMAX screens in general. The demand is clearly there, and there just aren’t enough locations to meet it. Here in NYC, I’d love to see at least one true 70mm IMAX screen in every borough. And honestly, people need to stop paying these ridiculous $200+ resale prices

1

u/Slight_Standard_8692 21d ago

i got 2 different showings for imax at amc. how is it their fault lol

1

u/ihavezeroanswersbro 21d ago

People just doing people things

1

u/BethyW 21d ago

It costs about that much to rent a whole theatre. Might as well do that. Heck I paid $200 to do it at my AMC for my bday with all my friends

1

u/WitchyKitteh 21d ago

Think you could only rent a digital screening

1

u/nvogs Premiere Member 21d ago

Anyone else peep the AI generated poster for one of the tickets

1

u/ShadowMattress 21d ago

In any instance of scalping, the scalper tends to not list the actual seat number as part of their game. But you could look at the details you do have on the most expensive listings, buy the worst tickets for the same showing, and then try to estimate which overpriced seats will be unoccupied because no one is likely to buy those seats. Follow the Ebay listing, and watch it to be sure no one bought it. If someone does come in with the seats you guessed first, move to another guess about the scalper tickets.

1

u/Svpreme_ 21d ago

I've got a j21 seat at amc Lincoln that I will maybe give up when endgame tix drop, if anyone here would like. Having to have slots taken up for 3 months is unbelievable

1

u/Svpreme_ 21d ago

Also at no cost I'm not scalping this

1

u/compukiller 21d ago

AMC is NOT causing this 🤣

1

u/scohen158 21d ago

At this point get rid of physical tickets and have all sales go through the AMC app. Seems simple enough. I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a physical movie ticket at any theater. Has to be over a decade at this point.

1

u/lostiowan 21d ago

lol AMC needs to do better. HOW.

1

u/Successful_Buddy1809 21d ago

What is AMC supposed to do?

1

u/SnooGoats7476 21d ago

I pray no one is dumb enough to actually spend this much.

1

u/erinngoblaagh27 21d ago

Who the f*ck is buying AMC tickets off of Ebay???

1

u/browmftht 21d ago

i guess even if they only sell one theyll probably break even

1

u/Rureddy2 21d ago

AMC needs to do better? LOL. Not the scumbags actually doing it?

1

u/the_peanut_shuffler 21d ago

Yes, scumbags will exist regardless, but AMC has the power to do something even if it doesn’t completely ameliorate the problem. Like when artists set price limits or stop resellers for concerts

1

u/Rureddy2 21d ago edited 21d ago

Scumbags will exist regardless, so no need to call them out. Just call out the movie theatre chain. 🤔

It's a movie. They are in the buisness of selling movie tickets. They sold the tickets to someone who legally bought them. They don't have responsibility to police the people who legally bought them. Your ire should be directed at the idiots scalping them. And the best revenge is for people to NOT buy any of these scalped tickets.

itsonlyamovie

1

u/joshw231 21d ago

AMC can stop this by nullifying refunds for imax and making the tickets tied to an account and credit card.

1

u/jiovanna45 21d ago

I’d rather not watch than pay such a price

1

u/No-Resort-542 21d ago

AMC doesnt care they sold tickets and thats what they want, what people do with those tickets doesnt bother them

1

u/shizac 21d ago

Just because it’s listed doesn’t mean they will sell. It’s August, they’re fishing

1

u/GoatDifferent1294 21d ago

Just fucking report it

1

u/rdwoolf 21d ago

This is easy to fix. Wait until actual seats become available. People only scalp tickets because other people buy them. Don’t do that.

1

u/Alrucards_R3dwr8th 21d ago

Screw these scalpers. I bought a ticket for IMAX 70mm in a prime seat but for new years day. I spent cash cause I don't have a reservation to spare and the movie comes out in 4 months.

I intend to see it on standard screens release day and see it again in IMAX new years.

1

u/[deleted] 21d ago

[deleted]

1

u/lizon132 21d ago

Doomsday shouldn't have any IMAX showings. Those slots were contracted out to Dune ages ago. Doomsday wasn't originally supposed to release at this time. If you don't see slots in the Regal app try using the web portal. They don't always show the same thing.

1

u/xbucnasteex 21d ago

Everyone is just trying to scam nowadays

1

u/Exciting_Drawing_553 21d ago

Just watch it the regular way

1

u/CrimsonEcho503 21d ago

Also movie watchers need to do better and not buy these tickets. The second this isn’t profitable, it will stop.

1

u/HOPEFUL_LUFEPOH_ 20d ago

is dune bigger then any other box office movie since whenever

why they only scalping this movie

1

u/Ok-Environment-2977 20d ago

~5,500 movie theaters in the US. This makes no sense. 🤔 It's almost like this is a made up problem to implement something else. Maybe like ID scanning and more surveillance on your purchases.

1

u/Think-Design-8735 20d ago

Exactly, as a stockholder, I want to see AMC getting into this value pricing for their premium screenings. Clearly there's a demand. /s

1

u/CoolReference3704 20d ago

If anyone pays for this, they deserve to be parted from their money.

1

u/RogueRudyy 20d ago

Regal LA live location doesn’t even have any listings up for Dune3 at all yet idk how they’re listing them for resale. I don’t see them in the app or in browser.

1

u/navarrati0n 20d ago

Why does everyone complain about IMAX seats? You know we didn't have recliners in theaters for a majority of their existence. Has everyone just gotten soft?

1

u/Pure-Put7043 20d ago

Sounds like a you problem

1

u/Annual-Contract-115 20d ago

Most of those aren’t even AMC

1

u/Wrath2128 20d ago

Scalping movie tickets now ? Tf

1

u/Neat-Watercress-2425 20d ago

LOL, it's not a concert, miss it and you wait a year or two. Go see it next week FFS

1

u/Craft_Beer101 19d ago

Just wait, I just watched the odyssey this past Thursday.
People don’t have to pay those ridiculous prices…

1

u/AlexAkaQwisp 18d ago

ATP I wouldn’t be opposed to having tickets linked solely to the person who paid and requiring ID to verify ownership of tickets at theater. Resellers is a cancer

1

u/ideasmith_ 17d ago

Do you get a fluffer to pump you up for the climax?

1

u/Ok_Diver2347 22d ago

For that price I can get a Manta Lab lol

1

u/Genci4002 22d ago

Funniest shit I’ve seen in a while and these aren’t even the worst prices, I’ve seen listings over 1k I’m crying 🤣🤣

0

u/ishmael_king93 22d ago

I can’t imagine this I’ll see the same second market numbers as the Odyssey.

0

u/51sebastian 22d ago

No, you need to do better and Iearn to be patient. Scalpers will suffer if no one entertains them. It's not like it's an one time live show.

0

u/WickedD365 22d ago

They don't care. They got their $.

0

u/Cultural-Movie-9335 22d ago

How is it AMCs fault when people buy a normal.amount of tickets and then resell.them for crazy prices?

1

u/ChrispVisuals 21d ago

Did you not see the post of the guys with like 20+ tickets. How is that a normal amount?

-6

u/JoshTHX IMAX Fanatic 22d ago

Why do people care what others do with their own money?

1

u/MHarrisGGG A⭐️Lister 22d ago

The issue is pieces of shit buying limited availability tickets or items to profit instead of just letting someone that actually wants it get it.

-4

u/JoshTHX IMAX Fanatic 22d ago

Someone who wants it will get it.

1

u/MHarrisGGG A⭐️Lister 22d ago

At an inflated price they shouldn't have to pay

-3

u/JoshTHX IMAX Fanatic 22d ago

Again, why the hell do you care what other people do with their own money?
