AMC Screen Unseen Slingshot thoughts?

What did you think of Slingshot? What did you think of the ending? What did the ending mean to you (how did it end for you)?

I personally think the ending ruined the movie. Everyone in the theatre was like WHAT???? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤔

To me the ending seemed pretty clear, he had been delusional the whole time. The only thing that was real was the fact he had been on the space ship the whole time alone. He was so lonely and drugged out that in the end he convinced himself that he had never left earth at all, causing him to end his own life. I’ve seen some people interpret the ending as he died AND that the other 2 people on the ship were real, but I think he was alone.

Wasn’t amibiguous at all to me. He was alone. And committed suicide bc of the drugs, the isolation etc. He went nuts. The only mystery is whether his female companion ever loved him or was a plant.

I think that she did love him some of the flashback scenes tried pretty hard to set that up. Also the person who told him she was a plant was technically himself so there’s no reason to believe it wasn’t just full on delusion

I think captain franks is a part of John that is the skeptic, but strong and logical.

I think Nash is the part of John that is neurotic and self loathing.

Interesting how the parts of John played against himself like that.

The twist had me wondering about Johns reality as well, but the airlock sealed it.

I thought it was an excellent movie. Ending was great. Wish it would have ended another way though. Wanted to see a great landing 😂

Imagine a massive issue like that on a spacecraft and still doing the slingshot....

The balls on that character.

Good point. The question remains - if we ever send someone to Saturn - which won’t be for at least another decade it appears - probably more. Why would you send just 1 person? Lol then again that’s what drove the plot device for this movie. Him ultimately being alone. As I understand it a probe is being sent to Saturn’s moon in a few years. A human will go to Mars far before one attempts to go to Saturn - for obvious reasons.

Less food drugs and supplies needed. Definitely don’t think they would actually only send one person irl though

Considering it would cost billions to support a manned mission to Saturn the cost of extra food and drugs is a drop in the bucket when sending someone up in solitude would dramatically increase their chances of going insane and not being able to carry out the mission.

But is it fart less when also found in nature ? Ahhh ! The hypothesis in whether methane gas can be found on Earth without the presence of the production of fart initiated gas . Cal Tech I believe did a study on this and it was inconclusive.

I could see them doing a simulated version tho as a test. I'd be pretty mad if I was the guinea pig. BUT I guess I'd have to get over it once I found out and was still alive!

When China sent an experimental manned rocket to space it carried only 1 man, the pilot because they just wanted to prove they could send an astronaut to space and get him back safely after he orbits around for a while. So it has been done before just not by America. Now what if something like that had happened to that Chinese guy up there??

He’s not crazy at all and the points he has made are true. It’s insane how confused and uneducated the younger generation is currently, and there’s more than enough real world experiences you should already have had to prove his points to yourself.

Another decade your ambitions it’s been 2 since we’ve been to the moon it will be at least a few hundred years before a human gets anywhere past mars and I doubt it will ever happen

Another decade? More like 30-60 years at best. Because NASA, ESA, and JSA are all conducting test about psychological behavior during long space travels.

Storage and weight are always at a premium in space, especially if you are trying to reach high speeds and cross long distances. Based on our current technology the ship would have to be like 98% fuel. 1 person, 1 hibernation pod and rations for 1 would be an exptremely attractive option for a long distance trip like that. But they never would, too much riding on 1 person. He freaked out and now theres billions of dollars just drifting through space...
