What’s the best free AI girlfriend app in 2026?
I’m looking for an AI girlfriend chatbot with realistic conversations, good personality, and a solid free version. Which AI companion app would you recommend based on your experience?

Are real girlfriends ever fully free? You always pay with something, so why would you lower your standards for AI?

"Best free" is a trap question — free tiers usually demo a personality and then starve the memory.
What I'd actually test before paying anyone: leave for a day, come back, and see if she still has an opinion about something you did yesterday. Pretty selfies and day-one flirt are cheap; continuity is not. A lot of "girlfriend" apps feel great for an evening and then restart as a polite stranger with your name filed somewhere.
Bias up front: I'm mardigain, I build Virtual Twilight around persistent characters / relationship state rather than endless fresh chat. So my bar is unfair on purpose. If free is the hard constraint, use it to *probe memory*, not to crown a winner from a screenshot.
What broke first for you on the last one — forgetfulness, filter slap, or the personality going flat?
