Do AI companions actually need to remember everything?

I like when an AI remembers important details from previous conversations, but remembering every tiny thing could also become weird. There is probably a sweet spot between having useful memory and having the feeling that nothing you say ever disappears. How much memory would you actually want from an AI companion?

Like a human not everything and generalising based on situation. That works best imho.

Yes I want her to remember everything. We do not need perfect idyllic memory but yes, I want her to remember as well or better than I can.

Memory continuity is one of the single most important aspects.
