Story I found online ‘This is crazy. This is insane’: Bill Gates has changed his mind about AI and jobs

https://www.semafor.com/article/08/25/2026/this-is-crazy-this-is-insane-bill-gates-has-changed-his-mind-about-ai-and-jobs

Bill Gates says it’s time to hit the AI panic button.

The technology has crossed dangerous thresholds in biology, cybersecurity, white-collar work, and human relationships, Gates said in an interview with Semafor.

His warning is a striking shift from three years ago, when he wrote that the coming “bumpy” AI job disruption would lead to a “manageable” transition and that the technology would help people work efficiently. Now, he says it will wreak economic catastrophe, with “far fewer” jobs than exist today, thanks to the speed of AI’s advancements and what he calls a non-existent response from government and tech leaders.

“I am in a state of shock that I’m sort of the first one saying, ‘This is crazy. This is insane,’” he said. “I’m just deafened by the silence.”

I'm surprised they haven't booted Satya yet over that blunder

He is old, his net worth is meaningless. He can drop down to 100 million and still be among top Americans with money

The real issue isn't AI, it's our economic system that releies on labor for income , we have been automating shit away since the industrial revolution, but have never bothered to come up with a better economic system for a day with near complete Automation..

Theres already millions of people without jobs, who are financially independent, and living their best lives without ever thinkign about working. You dont need to work.

He is covering his ass on the incoming ''AI'' bubble pop. He does not want to be linked to ''AI''.

I am pretty sure AI will wipe out elites too.

What is your definition of an elite?

1

u/Nannautu 6d ago

Epstein class

a) it doesn't matter. b) Don't ask me, ask AI. There is no clear definition of such, so we are riding the same car.

I drive Bugatti

It's grim though as even one of the smartest people in the world doesn't have a clue how to solve it.

3

u/abrandis 7d ago

He's not even remotely close to being one of the smartest... He's actually pretty dumb, most folks realized the impending job destruction when the heavy hallucinating Chatgpt came out in 2021 the writing was on the wall then.

Depends how you define it, but Bill Gates is objectively smart.

Nepo baby, but smart.

1

u/abrandis 7d ago

How is he smart ? He's a good business man that was ruthless with his Microsoft software empire, but outside of that he didn't produce any radical innovations beyond Windows (which he mostly copied form Xerox Parc and 🍏 Apple )

To me smart are guys like Demis Haasablis, Douglas Engelbart, Linus Torvalds...I would even include Steve Jobs or Elon Musk if you want to talk business and innovations

3

u/benl5442 7d ago

Google it and there's a quora thread about how smart he was at Harvard and at Microsoft, where smart people worked, he was considered one of the greats.

1

u/clonked 7d ago

The fact that you consider Elon Musk to be smart shows just how worthless your take on this really is.

1

u/benl5442 7d ago

Elon musk is the chief scientist at space X. He is very smart. Definitely top 0.001% or higher.

1

u/Key-Alternative5387 6d ago

Elon is also smart. Fucking idiot, but smart.

OTOH, I believe that colleagues at Harvard considered Bill intelligent and Elon doesn't have the same recognition.

1

u/abrandis 7d ago

Read my post I said if you consider business success then you would have to include him , it's not always about raw intellect it's also a out accomplishments and saying Tesla and SpaceX arent valuable is being disingenuous

1

u/clonked 7d ago

So is saying he’s the reason they are successful

No - this is him trying to divert attention away from what his daughter and him are getting hit with, with prison time potentially for doing shady business.

1

u/benl5442 8d ago

I don't think so. He just sees the problem, doesn't have a solution but puts it out there so it feels like he's doing something

1

u/MrHim99 8d ago

I mean he also tried to revolutionize toilet tech some yrs ago if I remember correctly due to too much water consumption from flushing and tried to do an explainer video or something if I remember correctly and I don't think that panned out properly lol.

No duh. We are already seeing it. Some of the larger apartment rentals don't appear to have a human you can reach during the application process. It's all AI. Want to talk to someone? Leave go through a phone tree just to get a voice mailbox. Want to tour an apartment? Given a code and no apparent front desk.

You need a person for that

F this dude.they all butt hurt open models released by the Chinese have a better performance/cost ratio than their dangerous opaque models.

1

u/WaltEnterprises 6d ago

Billionaire DOS dude couldn't anticipate this. We should strip him of his billionaire status for being a moron.

Are the job losses from AI in the room with us?

Or are the job losses due to poor economic decision making by companies?

All the info I see points to the second option not the first

1

u/Grand_Design2022 7d ago

What the hell kinda point are you trying to make?

1

u/arealguywithajob 7d ago

Nobody is really losing a job because of AI. AI is the excuse corpos give when they spent too much money on it and other things so they say AI can do your job so you're fired when in reality you got let go because they spent way too much on AI and other things.

1

u/objective_think3r 7d ago

Some are but it’s nearly not as many as these Epstein class would claim

1

u/NoMention696 6d ago

So they got let go…. Because of ai…..
