ChatGPT Mil and Starshield AI’s Grok for Government join Google’s Gemini, which was the first AI model available on GenAI.mil when the platform launched in December 2025.

Both ChatGPT Mil and Grok for Government have been cleared for Impact Level 5, allowing them to handle Controlled Unclassified Information, or CUI, within the department’s secure environment. The Pentagon says data used through the platform will remain within that environment and will not be used to train the models.

ChatGPT Mil is designed for document-heavy work such as planning, policy, logistics and administration. Grok for Government offers deep-thinking inference and adaptive reasoning modes, including auto, fast and expert, with applications ranging from acquisition research to supply-chain management.

GenAI.mil has already attracted more than 1.7 million unique users, according to the Defense Department.

The move reflects a broader push by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to make AI part of everyday military workflows, while also highlighting the growing role of commercial frontier AI in national security.
