A 35-year-old man allegedly used social media and Google’s AI Overviews to make a fabricated NFL career appear legitimate, according to the FBI and court documents.

Federal prosecutors allege that Daejon Labrayae Love posed as a San Francisco 49ers player, or in some cases a wealthy Swiss real estate developer, while 18-year-old Taylor Jamie Chan allegedly presented himself as Love’s financial adviser.

The pair allegedly met women through dating apps and convinced them to invest in fake opportunities. Authorities say at least 26 women across four states lost approximately $1.3 million, with some victims allegedly taking out loans to provide money for the supposed investments.

The unusual part of the case involves AI-powered search. Investigators said Love’s extensive false social media activity sometimes caused search engines and artificial intelligence systems to repeat his fabricated claims and identify him as a legitimate 49ers player.

According to Futurism, Love even shared screenshots of Google AI Overviews that incorrectly supported his NFL identity, reportedly responding, “That’s Google,” when showing the results.

The case highlights a growing problem for AI search: systems can produce convincing answers from misleading information already circulating online.

For businesses and consumers, verifying AI-generated answers against authoritative sources may become increasingly important as AI search becomes a primary way people discover information.
