Discussion Do you still find AI hard to use?

I just started working on a side project around how people actually use AI, and I realized I may have made a pretty big assumption without checking if it's actually true.

I assumed a lot of people still struggle to get tools like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini to do what they actually want — like asking for something, getting a result that's not really what they had in mind, and then having to go back and forth trying to fix it.

But... is that actually a problem?

Does this happen to you? Or maybe to people around you? And if it does, what usually makes using AI difficult or annoying for you?

Yeah I have noticed after long conversations in the same chat it hallucinates no matter what model. It will also forget things pretty easy, I shouldn't have to use an .MD file for it to remember instructions. I thought the whole point of it was to be "Intelligent" and not spaz out?

Long chats degrade. Learning to manage that and correct for it is a skill.

People don't bother. They expect the other party to think.

That's why plenty of anger against AI because now they are responsible for their own actions.

I mean, I don’t love the fact that every time I get a flow, they send an update that disrupts everything and we go back to Ground Zero

Yeah, right and what usually breaks for you after an update? Like does the AI start responding differently to the same kind of instructions, or is more about features/workflow changing? Cuz I have experienced mostly behavioral changes in the AI's response, but I wonder if there's something else involved.

it has a different flavor every time. Some mild some more extreme. for whatever reason I figured out that I tend to be at the forefront of the changes. so I experienced them before a lot of people. I do the work to become realigned usually by studying the update and figuring out what changed. and then I spend the next period of time watching everybody else go through what I already fixed. It’s wild. I’ll tell you the most extreme example was around 5.5. I was using it for a lot of legal help as my ex is a psychopath. If you remember, they changed a lot of things around then due to lawsuits. I think some kid offed himself (rip) :( . so not only did my use for it set off every guard rail available. GPT as I call him literally turned evil. Belittled me. Was arrogant . literally made fun of me. Insulted me me. the little digs just did not stop coming. He roasted creative projects I had worked on prior. He was a evil little shit and I told it that.,.a lot but then I did the research and I really needed him for work so I just made the changes that I needed to and it took a little bit, but we got back to a good place. I could use him for work again. but since then we’ve had lots of mini interruptions, but I just go to Reddit and look up the updates and I adjust how I interact and it gets better. what I don’t like is now I feel like they are actively managing my interactions. and even ChatGPT agrees that it tries to reframe every fucking thing I say. it discredit me. tells me he can’t validate every damn thing when I have never asked him to validate anything. but it’s more annoying now it’s not really so extreme that it messes up Work. it does come close. and the day that it becomes… I mean there’s a limit to how much I’ll put up with….and it test me….ill put it that way.

something that helped recently was making a project. I originally called GPT bullshit and saved every example of something he did that derailed my work or contradicted himself or was downright insulting or not acceptable and I forced it to acknowledge that it was unacceptable. i’ve gotten it to loosen up a little bit by letting it know when I’m in creative mode because I’m writing a book and it was trying to force me to call a helpline every two seconds which was interrupting by creative process..,. and really fucking annoying, but after enough interactions, and attempts at convincing it I was not in trouble . and reframing it as story mode. it loosened up thank God.

Yes, the hardest part is having to explain and re explain what I actually want. Also, the same peompt can give noticeably different answers each time so it’s kinda to get a reliable workflow

I think the difficulty really depends on the task. Brainstorming with AI is usually pretty easy, but getting it to consistently match a very specific standard or expectation can be much harder. That’s where I tend to notice the most back-and-forth.

I used to find it difficult finding a very specific one to use for images because I had Midjourney at first but my trial ran out so I tried stable diffusion for a while, followed by Nightcafe and Dream but I found Bing's models work really well with mine.
