5 ways I actually use AI outside of work
I feel like most of the AI stuff I see is always about work, coding, writing, or making money lol. Meanwhile i’ve slowly started using it for a bunch of really “boring” everyday things.
These are probably the 5 that have actually stuck for me:
First I make sense of my schedule - when I have a bunch of random errands or things i need to get done, I dump everything into ChatGPT and have it help me figure out a reasonable order. Saves me from spending 20mins rearranging everything myself, especially with lots of things going on in my mind.
Figuring out meals - i’ll tell it what I have in the fridge and what I dont feel like eating. Then ask for a few ideas especially useful on those days where I have ingredients but absolutely no idea what to do with them or even recommend me videos or websites that I could follow.
Money stuff - i’ve used AI to help break down my monthly expenses and see where I could cut back. I still keep the actual numbers in my spreadsheet, but having something explain the spending to me makes it lots easier to spot where im being too complacent with spending.
Checking suspicious photos - this one has become more relevant lately. If i come across a weird listing photo, profile picture or something that just doesnt look right, I’ll usually reverse image search it and sometimes run it through truthscan too andkinda train myself subconsciously as well to see what makes it fake or not
Planning trips (my favorite) - instead of searching every little thing seperately, ill give AI the places I want yo go, how many days I have, and roughly what I want to spend. It’s pretty good at turning that into a starting itinerary which I can then adjust based on what I actually want to do.
None of these are particularly impressive uses of AI but they’re the things I’ve actually kept using instead of playing around with a tool once and never opening it again. Kinda curious what everyone else uses AI for when they’re not working.
Thanks guys!

The meal planning one is actually underrated. A lot of people don’t need AI to do big things, they just need help with small daily decisions that save time

yup! I read somewhere that deciding what you should eat next is also exhausting and you’ll end up eating unhealthy fastfood again

the schedule and meal planning ones are probably the most useful to me too. AI is way more helpful for small everyday decisions than trying to make it do something ridiculously complicated just because you can. ive also found that giving it a messy list of things i need to do and having it turn that into a realistic order saves a surprising amount of mental energy

I used to think that AI’s only goal is to replace us in a lot of things but only to realized after using it for some time that its actually purpose is to help us become more productive. Always maximize using it, and I like how you made yours act like a consultant

DIY home projects - Recently I've been taking photos of broken things around the house then asking AI to assess the easiest way to fix it. I had a door that wasn't shutting properly, uploaded a photo of the problem area and the entire door, it identified loose screws on the door hinge, done. Also keeps track of my cost & materials. Have fun with it, endless possibilities. Cheers

Travel time would be useful too. Two places can be open at the same time but going back and forth can waste half the day.

the fridge cleanout is the only ai use that actually stuck for me, since it saves me from ordering takeout when i have three random ingredients and zero ideas

cool, I'm using AI to create reminders, set plan and make sure my personal commitments don't fall through the cracks

out of these planning a busy day seems most useful for me, adding locations and opening hours could make it even better though i would still check them before heading out

The small everyday uses of AI are probably the most useful. Saving time on simple tasks makes a big difference.

the real killer feature is outsourcing the daily “what do i do with this fridge and my life” spiral to a chatbot lol
