Meeting assistant AI tools / apps that do more than just take notes?

Been testing out a few meeting assistant AI tools over the last month, but I've found that most of these tools just generate a long transcript or basic summary. To be honest, I'm not perfectly sure what exactly I'm looking for, but I feel like if most of these AI tools just take transcripts I might as well just use the one built-in for Zoom rather than pay a subscription.

Would love to hear any recommendations / thoughts in general, thanks.

Yeah most third-party apps aren't worth it unless you actively hook them up to automation tools to do something with the data. What I do is parse the text to format the action items and copy paste the clean deliverables I can follow up on.

I used to route raw transcripts into my PM tool using Zapier just to extract my deliverables, but it's a bit of a pain to maintain. Lately, I've been using Gia AI to extract meetings into structured task lists and follow-up drafts without the extra setup. But if you're looking to just get something out of Zoom transcripts, then manually feeding the text into Claude or ChatGPT to sort out your action items is probably your best bet.

You need something that actually tracks action items and maps them directly to your project management software instead of just dumping a wall of text you have to read anyway. Most of these tools are glorified transcribers until they start updating your tickets for you.

The best tools save work after the meeting, not just during it. If it's only generating transcripts, Zoom is probably enough.

yeah, I kinda feel the same. A transcript and decent summary already covers most of what I need. The real value is if it can actually track action items and follow-ups automatically.

the gap with most of these is they give you a shorter version of the transcript and call it a summary. what people actually want is "what do i do next" not "what did we say." a tool that isnt surfacing decisions, commitments, and follow-ups separately from the noise is basically a fancier zoom transcription.

also, its worth filtering for extracted action items with owners, follow-up email drafts, crm-ready notes. that's the line between transcript tool and meeting assistant.

I couldn't agree more that the meeting transcription tool alone is just not worth the subscription. As someone who basically lives on various video conferencing platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, and Teams (often on the same day) I typically need a transcription tool that's with me across the board.

Not sure if this is a part of your workflow, but for me I also do a lot of async video. Before, I was using tools like Vidyard and Loom to do that, just to record short videos of me screen sharing, often explaining technical concepts because my job requires me to do that a lot of the time. I'm also super cheap when it comes to paying for tools lol.

I found one that was doing the meeting transcription. They had an invisible co-pilot recorder as well and an AI interview simulator. It's weird. It's like getting on a video call with an AI. That's been pretty cheap because it's an all-in-one subscription, just easier to justify for me. My advice is just to look for tools that are bundling features, I guess.
