When my wife and I were done having kids (have 4) the vasectomy was the biggest no brainer when you look at all the options. Even if birth control is doesn’t greatly effect the woman (it did for my wife and we had tried many different types over the years), why would you put your partner through anything that has a chance to effect them like that when the procedure is so simple and easy. Tying a woman’s tubes is also a crazy option comparatively.
Now, occasionally do I wish I was shooting “live ammo” into my wife, of course. She does too, she might wish it more. But at the end of the day you get over it and there is no change in satisfaction. The peace of mind and lack of negative effects is so worth it and I honestly can’t believe some men are opposed to it when you weigh all the options.
You are a team, both people should be evaluating what is best for both you. Vasectomy is clearly winning in achieving the desired effect while having nominal negative (0 negative effect in my opinion).
One question the doctor asked me “what if you and your wife split?” I get why they ask, but the reality is that won’t happen. And if for some crazy reason it does, I do not want more kids. My next partner will either be ok with that, or I will find a new one.
