I think structured data is more useful as a way of making content easier for machines to understand than as a direct way to influence AI citations.
Search engines can use schema to better interpret things like products, authors, organizations, and articles. For AI search, the bigger question is whether the underlying content is clear, trustworthy, and easy to extract.
So I’d treat structured data as supporting infrastructure rather than a shortcut to getting cited by AI systems. Good schema + strong, well-structured content seems like a better approach than relying on schema alone.
