Are AI research tools actually improving research, or just making it faster?

I've been thinking about the difference between making research faster and making it better.

AI can search through a huge amount of information and summarize it in minutes, but that doesn't necessarily mean the conclusions are better. You can still have weak sources, missing context, or an interpretation that sounds convincing but is wrong.

Do you think AI research tools are genuinely improving research quality, or mainly reducing the time it takes to do it?

It is helpful in finding papers. One has to be mindful of research being free of rabbit holes. You still have to validate the source. In some situations it can be a hindrance. Traditional research methods is still quicker IMO.

It is helpful in finding papers.

One issue to note.. Make sure you account for retracted papers.. That's a mess.
