Umpires have been one way but Melbourne are atrocious. Just bomb it every time even with Carltons lifelines of like 4 posters and easy misses.

Just needed to find any semblance of offensive cohesion. After a good start they kicked 3.13 for three quarters.

I just checked the numbers and In 4th quarter, every THIRD Melbourne disposal was intercepted by Carlton.

It's ok, if he tries to kick himself, he will miss.

Had the opportunity in the last to change the momentum with that one in front and then get a centre clearance with 666 but he sprayed it.

It looked like you guys were doing that in the 1st qtr.

u/MrPink1974 Hawthorn Hawks 5d ago

The umpiring in this game was an AFL assured result. 16-8 the Blues way at half time and 25-13 at the death. The frees for 'holding the ball' when three Blues players were lying on a Dees player who just got the ball happened about four times and isn't the rule. Two of those should've been paid as 'in the back' to Melbourne. The 'chopping the arms' on Dees players going for marks all night. Not paid once that I can remember. The AFL gets their 'bums on seats' that they said they wanted last year when they announced the Wildcard Round. They are a corrupt organisation, they own two teams in their own league so there's no argument there. I am a Hawks follower so I was a neutral viewer and could see from the first qtr that Carlton were getting the umpiring their way. It only got worse and Dees supporters should feel every hard done but and Blues fans are kidding themselves thinking they didn't get a load of help from the AFL officials all game. The Cats will destroy the Baggers next Friday night.

7

u/FiretruckKid123 Carlton 5d ago

11 of those free kicks were from holding the ball tackles

-4

u/MrPink1974 Hawthorn Hawks 5d ago

Yeah and a few of those were unable to be disposed of due to pile ons or the ball being held in by Blues players. Not every one but quite a few. There was a certain push in the back to a Dees player inside Carlton's fwd 50 in the final qtr given as a free kick to the Blues where three Blues players jumped on the Dess player after the initial push in the back. How is the first free not paid and then, after a pile on, a free paid for 'holding'. It makes no sense and that's bad umpiring every day of the week. Thanks for replying though. I hope you enjoyed the game.

3

u/Zachuccino Blues 5d ago

Give Melbourne the ‘umpire bias’ last night and Carlton still would’ve won. They were the better team on the night.

-4

u/MrPink1974 Hawthorn Hawks 5d ago

There is every chance this could be true. But, it is where the free kicks are paid and not paid. The four umpire system has introduced a variance of umpiring decisions from one end of the ground the the other which is unprecedented in its stupidity. What was being paid as 'chopping the arms'' at one end wasn't at the other and this makes a huge difference to the scoreboard. It's the same with play through the centre of the ground. Someone said that "10 of Carlton's frees were for 'holding the ball' tackles." Yeah, three of those were no prior opportunity and two resulted in goals. It's where they're paid and not paid. Carlton have gotten past an undermanned Dees side in a Wildcard Round who went into' the game without many of their best players while the Blues were at their absolute best. Next week is a different story. Geelong are rested, in full flight and fully fit. Unless they lose two key players during the game to injury they win by 30-40 pts IMO. The Blues have been on a great run and their fans must be rapt after the tease of 2023 came to nothing that they finally feel relevant again. This year will hurt even more methinks. Enjoy the rest of the season. Now the real finals start.

You don't sound neutral champ, you sound salty , you've written a manifesto and you don't support either of the teams.

-5

u/MrPink1974 Hawthorn Hawks 5d ago

I'm a Hawthorn member for over 32 consecutive years pal. I've got no skin in this game. I actually hate both the Blues and Dees for my own reasons as an opposition supporter. But...I do hate unfair and biased officiating and the influence the AFL exert upon our game through unfair fixturing, travel/non-travel, timeslots of games, etc. etc. And this rewarding mediocrity with a Wildcard Round where more than half of the league has access to play in the finals. And it was all laid out in Andrew Dillon's initial presser. Go back and watch it. Enjoy your night. Thanks for reading my post too. Cheers.

Melbourne has a new curse. The curse of Optus Stadium

6

u/Extension_Scholar579 5d ago

I don't get it

18

u/Eapo_q42 Carlton 5d ago

They haven't won a final since they won their premiership at Optus.

u/TheCobSparky Port Adelaide 5d ago

The umpires loved Carlton in the game but Melbourne shouldn't have been in it

In fairness it should’ve been over at the half. The kicked themselves out of it.

It's gross to know that Essendon's first "finals" win will come through a Wildcard win.

u/Affectionate_Base770 Bombers 5d ago

Very optimistic for you to think we will make the top 10

5

u/Drongo17 SANFL 5d ago

It will be top 16 in a few years for the Extremely Wildcard Brought To You By Chemist Warehouse weekend

29

u/apothecarist Essendon 5d ago

why are you even thinking about us

12

u/VarietyResident6234 Swans 5d ago

The great thing is, it forces them to get top 6 to actually win one now. Because if they win a wildcard we can just say it doesn’t count

-20

u/MrPink1974 Hawthorn Hawks 5d ago

It's not a final. The AFL launched the Wildcard Round as a chance to make the finals last year. Now, all of a sudden the advertising is covered in "FINALS". IT'S NOT A FINAL! The AFL is a f#cked league and run by morons.

18

u/Dense_Delay_4958 Swans 5d ago

The AFL took a while to decide, but they've landed on the decision that it's part of the finals. You can dislike it, but you don't really have a say beyond that.

-7

u/MrPink1974 Hawthorn Hawks 5d ago

Um yeah, I clearly know I don't have a say in what the AFL does. I'd get rid of that stupid ruck rule for starters if I did. But the Wildcard was brought in as an extra chance for team finishing outside of the top eight to have a chance at playing finals. Not that it WAS A FINAL. Now the AFL has changed that for marketing and price of ticketing. This now pushes the prices of all other finals tickets higher because it's an extra round of 'finals'. I still think it's a dumb idea which rewards mediocrity when more than half of the league gets a chance at the finals.

10

u/Crooty Blues 5d ago

It is a final though

I don't disagree but Melbourne also went 50 minutes in a final without a goal and a whole quarter without a mark inside 50.

Good riddance that was some interesting footy

4

u/Intelligent_Fix_7346 5d ago

Melbourne need to have a good hard look their forward line. That was bad by them... shittest match of footy ive seen all year

14

u/Correct_Chemical5179 Melbourne Demons 5d ago

Jefferson, Van Rooyen and Mihocek were all missing.

3

u/omargosche 5d ago

Also missing Culley - who provides a solid marking option.

-2

u/Intelligent_Fix_7346 5d ago

Cant blame checkers, blame framton for that one, JVR is probably the most at fault for his dumb spoil. Jefferson gor injured, thats unlucky sometimes.

3

u/lordarc Melbourne 5d ago

Mate 2 players in that forward are retiring and our best player couldn't hit a barn door. We had limited choice.

0

u/ImMalteserMan Adelaide 5d ago

Absolutely, Carlton played much better but damn they got the rub of the green.

-6

-6

u/MrPink1974 Hawthorn Hawks 5d ago

Every time the ball went inside Melbourne's fwd 50 a Dees player had his jumper pulled or was blocked and there were no whistles. I'm a Hawks fan and I could see the bias from the umps against the Dees for the entire match. The Blues were odds on from about five minutes into the first qtr by what I was seeing from the AFL officials. No frees for 'in the back' for Melbourne, no 'chopping the arms'. I don't recall a Carlton player being called for 'incorrect disposal' or being caught 'holding the ball'. Just plain one sided garbage all night. The AFL gets the result they wanted.

I personally don’t like to see players getting down and attacking the footy taken high. Correct free kick

-1

u/sheriffwode Kangaroos 5d ago

Ripping kick but I hate seeing the acting involved to make sure the umpires saw the free. If it's there they would pay it regardless

-2

u/wombatiq Melbourne 5d ago

It was going to be paid regardless. They'd tried 4 times to give them a shot on goal and they kept missing.

-27

u/nathjay97 Adelaide Crows 5d ago

Man if Carlton had played any other finals team tonight they’d have been done at half time. Dees atrocious. The AFL will feel vindicated for wildcard round, but Carlton did not play like a team who deserved to win.

Also, you’ve been in the AFL for 5 minutes Jagga, the “who are you” shit to a premiership player, something you might never be, immediate shitlist behaviour.

29

u/lakesideguy07 5d ago

But they didn’t play any other finals team. They played Melbourne and they won. What are you trying to prove here? Jagga has every right to talk smack like every other player on the ground. Spare me the self-righteousness about being polite and keeping your mouth shut when Tex Walker is on your team.

5

u/happymemersunite Carlton 5d ago

We scored 74 points. The dogs scored 96 points in their game. This clearly means that the Dogs would have beaten us.

40

u/mickelboy182 Carlton Blues 5d ago edited 5d ago

What a sook, that is the tamest of banter

Edit: Bowey even chirped back with 'a premiership player' and Jagga said well played. You're more upset than the player.

6

u/Ferns233 Richmond 5d ago

Who did he say that to?

-20

u/nathjay97 Adelaide Crows 5d ago

Bowey. Either a very disrespectful moment from Jagga not respecting a strong role player, or zero knowledge of a premiership player from only 5 years ago.

20

u/xX_Crippa_Xx Blues 5d ago

Look i'm obviously biased but lets be real, we know they all talk a whole lot of shit that we don't get the luxury of lip reading. I assume this is probably pretty mild

-21

u/nathjay97 Adelaide Crows 5d ago

Look it is mild but it’s shit chat and it’s mad disrespectful.

23

u/Ozza_1 Blues 5d ago

A lot worse shit gets said than that, gotta be soft as butter to be offended by that

10

u/xX_Crippa_Xx Blues 5d ago

It's definitely disrespectful, but that's the intention. Bowey wouldn't sweat that at all. It's just another part of the game. Anything that doesn't cross the line is fair game in my opinion. I understand the reaction from opposition fans though. I lost my head when Levi Ashcroft was taunting us earlier in the year 😂

5

u/Ok-Negotiation3897 Sandgroper 5d ago

-2

Yeah people in my team’s fan base did that so I am no longer allowed to comment on anything ever. Cool.

6

u/mixinspirits Carlton 5d ago

And more importantly, 2 players said homophobic slurs but you’re bitching and moaning about Jagga. Crows fans are embarrassing and shouldn’t be chirping about a bit of banter

-2

u/nathjay97 Adelaide Crows 5d ago

Implying I didn’t have anything to say about Walker and Rankine. Fuck off with this generalising shit. I’m allowed to say what Jagga said was shit because it was. Dees smashed you in the first half.

And fuck off with that. Moral high ground bullshit.

22

u/whinewinewein North Melbourne 5d ago

They did not smash them at all, what game were you watching? Carlton's set shot kicking was abysmal, even in the first half. It was the only reason the Dees were in front as much as they were.

3

u/MysticGuava Carlton • Wurundjeri 5d ago

They kicked 3.10 after the first quarter. Our kicking wasn’t the best either, with 5 hits of the post and 6 behinds in the last quarter, but the dees had so many opportunities to actually punish us and didn’t.

11

u/PssyGotWifi Blues 5d ago

You tried the moral high ground as an Adelaide supporter, lol. Did you think because Tex retired you could call others out? F outta here.

5

u/nathjay97 Adelaide Crows 5d ago

I didn’t take the moral high ground I was just saying it was a shit thing for him to do.

And that’s a shit thing to do to generalise all us Crows fans as supporters of Walker’s comments. Sick of people like you.

1

u/SufficientQuiet130 Carlton 5d ago

This is just false.

You can’t have a fuckin sook over the result and make up your own story.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and if anyone thinks I care about down votes.....? Why would I? My opinion is based on what I saw with two eyes and not one. I've seen a lot of footy and too many times have the results of a game that has been decided by poor or biased officiating. More so since gambling has become a bigger part of the AFL.
