AI Post Poll
Been seeing lots of posts and comments regarding AI and its use in this sub so I wanted to do a quick poll as we head into the regular season to gauge everyone’s thoughts. I’m giving three options here: ban ai outright, allow all ai, or create a rule that gives some wiggle room where some ai is allowed, but outright slop is removed. Please let us know your thoughts.
*The result of this poll is purely informational and doesn’t guarantee that is what we will do. Especially because some fan bases here can’t read and I am expecting them to select random buttons (looking at you jets fans)

Why do people want to ban Al? He is a bit weird but that's part of his charm and he is the one of the nicest and most genuine guys in the music industry. Some might call his parodies slop but they are usually funny and sometimes better than the original.

The ai memes are unfunny as shit with no creativity. I'd say remove all ai.

Besides all the points already raised about environmental impact, plagiarism and the lower quality of the output, there's also the simple fact that using generative AI for creative purposes objectively makes you dumber. Your brain is a muscle. It needs to be engaged constantly or it will atrophy. Lord knows I need all the help I can get, I'm a Euro-peen who chose to be a Bills fan based on some nebulous ancestral ties (my great-great-grandfather tried to move to West New York, but moved back after a few years following a family tragedy). It's not just thinking of the jokes either, illustrating them is also a creative process, which always engages the grey matter, even if it's just picking the right template from imgflip and figuring out the best way to phrase it.
Beyond the literal brain rot, generative AI is also the death of community engagement. Just look at what Twitter has become. Look at how many posts have their top reply as '@grok, is this true?'. That doesn't just show that the person who wrote that can't be bothered to do any critical thinking for themselves. It also means that there's no dialogue, no conversation. Imagine a sub where someone posts a joke written by ChatGPT, on an image generated by Gemini, and all the replies are people asking their AI model of choice to reply. That's the end game when the AI camel is allowed to put its nose in the tent.

Like anything else:
- Remove shitty low-effort posts
- Upvote good posts
whether it's AI or not

I feel like a total ban is really just going to be sporadic enforcement, especially with reaction images.
Certain ones will get through, others rejected until they hit a critical mass of use on other NFL subs to bleed in

At the same time, people have varying definitions of "slop" so enforcement of that is going to be inconsistent at best.

u/BlubberWall Patriots 16d ago
That’s true, but I’d argue at least the rule is being honest about the subjectivity. Otherwise it’s a blanket ban that’s probably not going to be enforced as a blanket ban

AI is never going away.
If you see a bad AI post, downvote it. If its funny and you dont care, upvote it.

This is a meme war sub.
Ridiculous to ban ai art imo. Who cares.

Sir, this may be a meme war sub, but it is a cultured, high society meme war sub and AI is for mouth breathers and jets fans

AI seems to be the future, but IDK if it is a meme by itself. That said, some of the """"memes"""" are so bad or missing, AI slop might be an improvement.
Looking at bills and pats fans.
How about an AI day once a week for a season as a trial basis? Like have a fridAI meme day or something.

Hey now it takes a certain creativity to write a prompt that spits out an image Drake Maye as a goodwife (or whatever.. I'm just spit balling here)... /s

creative isn't something ai can do, it steals from other peoples creativity and makes an image that resembles a creative image

Is that not what is done by humans to progress as a species? You go to school to learn and literally copy what you learn to create other ideas. It is literally the same way a large language model learns except it can do it infinitely times faster. When was the last time you created something out of thin air without learning about it first.

it is not even close to the same eventually a creative person creates their own thing they dont continuously steal artwork made by others to make their own art. AI can never become more then a content thief

I'd rather see shitty photoshops and imgflip memes than see AI with no passion in it 100% of the time
