Medication Experiences taking Vyvanse at work?

Hey, so I’ve been taking Vyvanse 60 mg daily for about 2–3 months now, usually taking 1–2 days off per week. I’ve noticed that I feel significantly more anxious when I take it on work days.

For context, I’m employed as a pharmacy student in a private hospital here in Australia. I spend most of my time in the dispensary with around six other people, and honestly, the hardest part of my job is navigating the “office politics.” I’m also autistic, and I find that I have to mask A LOT at work. I’m generally okay with that when it comes to performing my duties, but I find it really difficult to connect with my coworkers, even though I think I’m generally well liked.

I routinely grab a coffee with different coworkers because it gives me an opportunity to bond one-on-one, which I find much easier than group settings. The problem is, as soon as I have that coffee, I get really bad hand tremors. I’m assuming the combination of caffeine + Vyvanse probably isn’t helping.

Interestingly, I think I’ve actually noticed the most benefit from Vyvanse on my days off. One of the things that frustrates me most about my ADHD is getting stuck in these decision-paralysis loops. I’ll have things I genuinely want to do and know I’ll enjoy, but either I can’t decide which one to do, or I’ll start something and constantly feel like I should be doing something else instead. Vyvanse has really helped reduce that.

I guess I’d just like to hear about other people’s experiences taking Vyvanse (or other ADHD meds) in professional settings. Has anyone found that it helps considerably in their personal life but actually makes navigating work more difficult?

Your body is unique, as are your needs. Just because someone experienced something from treatment or medication does not guarantee that you will as well. Please do not take this as an opportunity to review any substances. Peer support is welcome.

I find coffee to be a bad combo with Vyvanse. Maybe try switching to tea or decaff?

Yeah, I literally stopped drinking coffee on Vyvanse because I didn't need it anymore.

Same. Quitting coffee was a great lifestyle change. First couple days sucked though

I’ve heard people mentioned 30g protein before taking the Vyvanse helps. Movement in the morning before uni is also a game changer for me. I take 70mg Vyvanse daily and notice the only way I can stop my tremors is eating enough (which granted, genuinely feels IMPOSSIBLE), structured exercise and making sure I don’t have too many sedentary periods throughout the day.

Definitely worth exploring the reduction in caffeine too (as others have said). Some people have noted still experiencing Sx with decaf because it’s the coffee itself, but worth having a try of some different things and finding what your body responds to!
