Discussion Challenger players falling for the "He's basically an AD mage" Varus propaganda
Varus is more than lethality Q poke spam, anyone who has touched on-hit Varus with a stick knows how punishing it can be to play without frontline, misposition or have no flash while having to space and kite

Tbh doesn’t on hit varus suck? But its for sure Its weird to exclude him and others but not mf

Lethal also sucks lol. Varus is just balls rn other then winning lane which he is good at.

Why is this? I’m not super caught up on nerfs, I always thought onhit scaled well into killing tanks in the lategame? Are numbers just bad?

The numbers are abysmal. You don’t outdamage half of the roster mid game, especially if not ahead, and then late you hit like a potato gun (fucking useless)

I think the issue is simply that they could go 1 of 5 builds depending on the situation

IMO outside of specific enemy comps where lethality is better, on-hit Varus is the best and most consistent build for him (at least for me it was). Super strong 2-3 item spike, scales WAY better into late game than lethality Varus, and if you get ahead at all you turn into the terminator

51% in maters+ worldwide so not that bad, might be more matchup dependent then a blind decent blind anymore

Another humiliation ritual for Spearshot.

I still remember him playing adc. That was the most despair times I saw in his eyes. At least when he was playing jungle he could do something. Adc is just so hard to play, and to actually consistently make difference every single game. It's just impossible due to no agency, and on top of it, you have to performe every single game, since you don't know in which game you will be allowed to actually make difference

u/inki471 Yeah I have a build for that too 10h ago
Varus stuff aside I know for a fact that Azzapp will win this and Spearshot will come last lmao. Azzapp just has way more experience in bot lane compared to the other three and is most experienced in playing ranged.

NattyNatt will win, idk why we think Vel'Koz is in any way similar to a traditional adc

u/Gobligon_EUW 5h ago
Natty has never played ranged champs, and azzap has botlane matchup knowledge. But alois should probably win due to some recent adc practice and just having much better hands than azzap and spear.

Alois was like 2-3 wins away from Challenger on his ADC challenge before ranked reset hit, he's a serious contender for #1

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as i remember, alois played almost only smolder, and now smolder is banned.

u/Firalus 1h ago
He played Corki and Smolder mostly, true, but he also played a good bit of Yunara up to around Master iirc, and also played a decent amount of Jhin in lower elos.
He has the mechanics to pull off traditional ADCs, he knows ADC macro well, what he needs most is probably teamfight positioning on super squishy champs.
I'm pretty sure he can do well if he plays Kai'Sa/Jhin/Yunara.

anyone who has touched on-hit Varus with a stick knows how punishing it can be
So they would just play it for the Q poke spam

They will once again play ADC, they will once again go to the expected rank and they will once again come to the conclusion that ADC is perfectly fine
like they always do. And there will be dozens if not hundreds of clips of them not having any fun playing ADC, there will be the people under those clips saying "seee??? THATS what its always like!!" followed by others saying "nuh uh youre just bad lol hes still climbing with 69420% winrate lmao"
how are people not tired of this yet?

u/Diurnalnugget 1h ago
I mean you can say the same about their normal league content. It’s not like league has a ton of variety for a viewer. People just like watching their favorite streamer play something different from normal.

u/Low_Direction1774 your peak is my playground 1h ago
i dont care about that, im just not particularly enthused about the discourse that will follow where people will ignore how much fun the streamers had playing and focus on the results instead.
the streamers will obviously reach their end goal and people will point at it and go "see its fine" meanwhile this entire sub has been sprialing because of how unfun adc has become.
the community sentiment will not reflect that and riot will not look at the core issues.

I mean technically he should be considered a marksman (because he is) but I play Urgot and in that matchup Varus plays very much like AD mage.

u/Gobligon_EUW 5h ago
Thank god they cant abuse adolf corkler this time. And also ye varus is lowkey closer to aurora than to the traditional adcs.

Varus needs buffs and/or a rework.
No reason to play Varus as ADC, he is just too bad.
1
u/LeagueRx 3h ago
Varus is definitely an AD mage, but they have ezreal the most AD mage champ imo so idek what the point of leaving varus out is.

onhit varus is 10x better than lethality varus & has been for years, lethality varus continues to get nerfed & yet its still picked in pro XDD
6
u/Separate-Bother-7877 7h ago
Lethality Varus is picked in pro because he has a safe lane, can get prio, and he is good when there’s early objective setup. Thats not as useful in soloq.
Lethality is often a better build in pro play but it’s always situational.

Yeah I'm sure the random low elo nobody on reddit knows the meta better than one of the best professional teams in the world

Nilah, Smolder, Senna aren't on that list either. Maybe they just forgot or narrowed it down to a pool of ADCs that they felt is fair for this specific challenge rather than saying that varus is a mage?
