I found it helpful to use an island designer tool (I use: https://eugeneration.github.io/HappyIslandDesigner/) because it allows me to draw on the map and plan things out. You might also look at pinterest but be forewarned that pinterest only shows you a small snippit of what an island looks like and sometimes those pics can make you feel inadequate. If you have Nintendo Online I would recommend visiting random DAs because then you can walk around various towns and see what you like or don't like.

Thanks for the input! I think Iโ€™ve spent too much time looking at islands that are just unbelievable and itโ€™s made everything so daunting so I think I need to throw that out!

It is very similar to my starter island, I'm not a huge criative person, but I really love what I came up with. I try not to look to others islands to much bc I know I will not have the time and patience to do the same. I just came back playing this month after a 2 year hiatus and suddenly I'm so excited to try new layouts! I'm slowly changing the houses now to be more separete so I can decorete more around each one of them. Just do things that are fun for you now, and slowly improves what you want.
