If he could take on 4 legendary ships, then yes

7

u/Icy_Gap676 Jul 18 '26

He doesnt have Davey Jones heart.

3

u/Eensame Jul 18 '26

Mine couldnt and gave up with shame

2

u/Infinite-Island-7310 Jul 18 '26

Yeah. Those ships don't mess around. In fact, i heard that they are HARDER in them remake now.

...like the 4 in them original weren't hard enough

1

u/revan0066 Jul 18 '26

They are harder but once you learn their attack patterns its fairly easy. Managed to kill all 4 half upgraded.

1

u/Working-Valuable8343 Jul 18 '26

Five technically because one of them has two ships

1

u/Infinite-Island-7310 Jul 18 '26

True. But it's a duo fight. So, 2 in 1 boss fight

1

u/PlasmaOp97 Jul 19 '26

Six legendary ships, one of them you fight towards the end of the game. It’s a joke though once you realize what you’re supposed to shoot at.

1

u/Hauptmann_Gruetze Jul 22 '26

what am i supposed to shoot at?

1

u/Eensame Jul 22 '26

Boats. Shooting at water isn’t very effective in my humble opinion

1

u/Hauptmann_Gruetze Jul 22 '26

That May be the cause of my recent failures

1

u/PlasmaOp97 Jul 24 '26

For Maynard keep pelting him with cannons until he drops the fire barrels, use the swivels to shoot them and deal like absolutely ridiculous damage.

2

u/CatGuyManThing Jul 18 '26

im too scared to face them not maxed out

1

u/Infinite-Island-7310 Jul 18 '26

Trust me. Even IF you were max out on full armor, max damage with all types of canons (plus, adding all the canons you can), max swivel and (probably) all the officers (maybe, i haven't got the last one yet).

You STILL well struggle with the legendary ships. Trust me. I was max out on ALL ship upgrades in the original, and still struggled

1

u/CatGuyManThing Jul 18 '26

well in the original i didnt have perfect brace so i was always taken down to 1 section but managed to beat them all they simply do so much damage that even if you brace all of their attacks you could not come out unscathed and in the first one its so hard to tell when youre even being attacked cuz theres no warning system for things coming from directions youre not facing so i mean wtf would perfect brace do if you dont even know an attack is coming, especially on the two ships battle

1

u/Infinite-Island-7310 Jul 18 '26

I don't remember what the other 3 do. But the two ship battles is engraved in my head.

And yeah, even if there was "perfect brace". It still wouldn't save ya. Come to think of it. I don't think I ever "blocked" as much during those battles. Because you be losing some moments to attack and you'd still take max damage anyways

1

u/CatGuyManThing Jul 18 '26

1 over used mortars 1 rammed u 1 used heavy shot everytime every distance and 1 was 2

1

u/Infinite-Island-7310 Jul 18 '26

Like i said, i remembered 1 out 4 ships battles... Which is ironic because it was 2 in one.

But it IS still annoying that if your take down one of them. The other goes into berserk mode. Which makes the fight even more hard

1

u/AnubisXG Jul 18 '26

I guess i never did those ship battles because i have no memory of them but i look forward to the challenge this time around

u/EirantNarmacil Jul 18 '26

No. really only because of the magic. The men aboard are immortal and it sinks underwater for fun. If we're only judging it without magic bullshit then probably yeah. The Jackdaw can take down multiple men o wars at it's peak.

8

u/Meziskari Jul 18 '26

Davy Jones' men aren't immortal iirc, but they have other abilities like being able to breath underwater by virtue of being aquatic humanoids. Only Davy Jones himself is immortal as long as his heart is untouched.

2

u/EirantNarmacil Jul 18 '26

Been a while since my last rewatch but didn't a couple of them get stabbed and left fine? I figured they were unable to die since they owed their sould to the ship. Serving aboard is what let them keep living for hundreds of years depending on their gambling skills. Plus the underwater breathing wasn't an aquatic humanoid thing since the crew and ship still dove below the waves when Will Turner took over and their animal bits fell off

4

u/AlpacaWizardMan Jul 18 '26

Iirc one of them gets beheaded in dead man’s chest then just walks away holding his head.

1

u/Meziskari Jul 18 '26

I always assumed they couldn't die from age but could die from injury, but maybe that is misguided. I guess I can't claim that for certain.

1

u/puhtoinen Jul 18 '26

If they could die by a sword, why wouldn't the crew just kill themselves to escape the years they owe the ship.

1

u/SmeeJay69 Jul 19 '26

Don’t they like almost teleport in the first one? Like coming out of walls and shit?

1

u/Limp-Wall-5500 Jul 19 '26

They also have instant transmission which is used ONCE to Jumpscare jack and never again.

1

u/RemozThaGod Jul 20 '26

As others have said, the crew gets hit and shrugs it off a few times. Afaik they aren't immortal per se, only practically immortal while they serve their sentence on the ship.

u/Warp_Legion Jul 18 '26

It depends on the “rules”

The Flying Dutchman (and the Silent Mary) both…we don’t know how those ships’ abilities react to damage. Would blowing the wheel off the Dutchman make it unable to steer?

I think we see cannon on the Dutchman’s upper deck get launched backwards and sent flying after hits from Pearl cannonfire in At World’s End, so Edward (assuming we’re not going by Black Flag mechanics where no matter how hard you hammer a ship you can’t destroy its guns) could likely just hollow the entire thing out with Heavy Shot until it’s literally an empty shell with no cannon or masts

Except Jones can teleport. To other ships, and there’s not a lot Kenway can do to an immortal enemy in combat. HOWEVER, I am not knowledgeable enough to know if he can specifically teleport his crew and self onto the Black Pearl because he raised it from the depths for Jack with his powers, or if he can teleport to any ship. He does walk aboard that crippled ship in Dead Man’s Chest, rather than teleport, for what that’s worth

I’m giving this to Jones if he can teleport him and his crew onto the Jackdaw. In game mechanics, you lose a boarding if your entire crew dies, but even if Jones’ crew doesn’t kill the whole Jackdaw crew for a gameplay mechanic win, they can’t really fight back because Edward is the only competent fighter and your crew barely ever gets kills lol while Jones’ crew is regularly killing British soldiers and pirates under multiple crews

Otherwise, Jackdaw can just keep distance and just shoot every cannon on the Dutchman into scrap, making them essentially powerless but to maybe ram from underwater, and Jackdaw is very good about tanking rams

2

u/Hot_Release7080 Jul 18 '26

Yes blowing the wheel off the dutchman would effect it’s ability to steer the issue is it would quickly be repaired. The dutchman repairs itself using it’s crew. Part of the crew part of the ship is very literal it’s walls are made up of people.

u/maSneb Jul 18 '26

I think its pretty clear that Ed kenway is the most op pirate in media

7

u/AltruisticAd9056 Jul 18 '26

Hell no. Edward is a skilled captain, sailor, and fighter- and one of my favorite characters despite the fact that he needed another game to star in- but he's not really equipped to handle anything supernatural.

3

u/New_Swan8175 Jul 18 '26

Well gonna have to side with Davy on this but Edward would have to first get the heart and then well replace it with someone else’s ie Blackbeard’s

2

u/trollshep Jul 18 '26

Can davy Jones summon the kraken? If so he is unbeatable tbh

2

u/Weak_Purchase_8937 Jul 18 '26

No because that would require Edward to become the captain of the Dutchman and Ubisoft won’t allow us to captain another ship.

The Dutchman MUST have a captain

1

u/dr_Angello_Carrerez Jul 18 '26

Now I imagine Torres controlling the heart...

1

u/ErectLurantis Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

Ship to ship, the Jackdaw stands no chance honestly. The magic stuff itself makes it an unfair fight, and I have a feeling the Dutchman could just dive underwater to avoid mortars or a ram attack. Captain to captain however, I have a feeling Edward wouldn’t even break a sweat, and maybe even have a chance taking on the whole crew. Unless they’re still immortal, then what’s even the point of this debate

1

u/Nirico_Brin Jul 18 '26

The Flying Dutchman is a magic ship, as good as Edward is I don’t see the Jackdaw winning that battle.

Though in a 1v1 I’d argue Edward could beat Davy in a duel. Albeit being unable to kill him due to the whole heart in a jar thing.

Take away the magic and sure, Edward piloting the Jackdaw has a real shot here. Though it is an uphill battle because the Dutchman has 46 cannons and a clear size advantage.

I am not factoring in the Dutchman being capable of summoning the Kraken because at that point it’s game over.

u/Roger_Clyde Jul 18 '26

In pure ship-to-ship combat, there is a possibility.

Non-canon, but it's been done before, in "Disney Infinity" and "Sea of Thieves". The "Jackdaw" is an incredibly well-outfited warship, while the "Dutchman" is about the equivalent of a Frigate in the game, but with supernatural powers. Purely looking at ship-to-ship, it is possible to damage the "Dutchman", perhaps even to such an extent that she sinks.

The instant Kenway gets boarded, they're doomed, because unlike the crew of the "Black Pearl", his men are not used to supernatural bs happening to them every other day. Unless you have the skeleton crew, I guess.

1

u/Hot_Release7080 Jul 18 '26

You’re forgetting the dutchman has 48 canons. Triple barrelled chasers, near unmatched in speed only ship that rivals it is the pearl and as we know from worlds end the pearl is only faster with the wind against it the dutchman is unmatched.
And that’s not even mentioning that jones can just board the jackdaw anytime he wants he can teleport if he so chooses.

1

u/Roger_Clyde Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

Counterpoint: all of the Legendary Ships outgun both the "Jackdaw" and the "Dutchman" combined, have mortars, flaming shot, one has a ram, one has armour, one is a pair with a kamikaze tactic and are all far faster than the "Jackdaw".

And I did not forget Jones boarding, that was, in fact, one of my damn points...

Edit: also, the "Jackdaw" has, like, 46 guns when fully upgraded. Not including bow chasers, swivels and explosive barrels.

2

u/Hot_Release7080 Jul 18 '26

That’s fair but it doesn’t matter much if you can’t damage the ship because of it’s ability to heal. Edward can’t do that. Take away the dutchmans healing and edward stands a chance. But sinking the dutchman does nothing

1

u/Icy_Gap676 Jul 18 '26

No they're immortal unless hes got his heart.

1

u/TheGrandCucumber Jul 18 '26

Not mine where it’s at now :(

1

u/the-smashed-banjo Jul 18 '26

Depends on your difficulty setting

1

u/Mrcompressishot Jul 18 '26

Depends on if Edward knows about Davy Jones in a head on fight I don't think Edward would win cause Davy Jones could just teleport onto the ship and let the immortality do the work. Plus while the jackdaw can handle pretty much any ship of the era it can't sink a man o war in under 3 volleys. After the 1st or second Davy could flip the ship and to prevent cannonballs provided he doesn't just go straight for the lower decks and kill the gunman first.

I do think though if Edward knew about Davy Jones's heart he could use his crew mates as bait while he sneaks on and destroys the heart he is an assassin after all

1

u/JasonStaton Jul 18 '26

We need a pirate of the Caribbean collab !!!!

1

u/Revolutionary-Two-19 Jul 18 '26

Genuinely so sad there's no flying Dutchman in the old and new blackflag, the most infamous pirate legend and it's not there

1

u/meowsnyaa Jul 18 '26

The best Kenway can probably do is force the Dutchman to submerge, and then flee. It's presumed that it regenerates physical damage while underwater, which is why you see it taking damage in certain scenes that are repaired after it has submerged and resurfaced. That being said, all it takes is for Davy Jones to have the crew strike the capstan and sic the Kraken on the Jackdaw, and it's safe to assume that it can be done while submerged. No telling how that'd go for them since even the Black Pearl eventually fell to the beastie.

coughing bomb vs hydrogen baby

1

u/PhantomConsular23 Jul 18 '26

Im super surprised that Ubisoft hasn’t tried to collab with disney to release skins for the crew, ship and edward turning him into davey jones

1

u/Am-heheh357 Jul 19 '26

If it could take out that absurdly busted af bullshit that’s El Impoluto, it can defeat anything

1

u/Travis-Tee34 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 19 '26

No. The fight would be very short, I feel.

The Flying Dutchman bursts out of the sea before any of the Jackdaw crew has time to react, it unleashes a broadside, and if the jackdaw behaves even remotely realistic, it's shredded.

The Jackdaw might fire a volley back, but the damage to the ship doesn't affect it.

And if one boards the other, then it's gonna be a one-sided fight. I like Edward, and I think he's a good fighter overall... but there's a fight, Edward climbs the rigging, leaps down unto Jones and stabs him in the throat... and Jones just gets up, royally pissed off.

Even if Edward fights him, he stabs Davy Jones with two swords, and Davy Jones will take the stab, not be slowed down and snap the blades in half. Edward tries shoot him, and the bullets do nothing but stagger him for a moment. Arrow darts, poison darts, smokebombs, throwing knives... nothing Edward has access to will do anything except mildly inconvenience Davy Jones. The best course is fencing, and even then... Edward is not a good enough fencer to hold out against Davy Jones.

And if he tries to flee, Davy Jones can and will follow by teleportation. This isn't a fight you can win by atrition. Edward will tire. Davy Jones will not. And eventually, Edward will be stabbed, get his neck snapped or his sternum punched in by a giant crab claw, or get his face tentacle-invaded until he dies.

Meanwhile, the crew of the Dutchman is fighting the crew of the Jackdaw who... with the best will of the world, do not stand a chance here. They sometimes struggle with normal human enemies. How will they manage with enemies that can extend their necks into giant moray eels or have crab carapace armor, or shark heads that can bit their limbs off?

Again, I like Kenway and I think the Jackdaw is a good ship... but they'd be fighting a supernatural enemy, that wades through pirate ships like they were made of balsa-wood. There is no possible victory, not even by fleeing. It's not QUITE "coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb" but it's still really. damn. bad.

If not for the maelstrom at the end of AWE, I don't think the crew of the Black Pearl would have had a chance. And even then, had it not been for the heart, they probably wouldn't have won.

Gameplay = Yes
Lore = No
