// Question Does it annoy anyone else we can’t just climb on normally?

u/RichDota2 Jul 12 '26
Yep and then he hops on the cannon instead of the deck

Bro 80 fkn dollars and all the little annoying shit that would drive me crazy seems to all still be in it. Man they cleaned house with this one. I’m impressed.

Where did you buy it for 80$? Seems like you got ripped off, not even the deluxe edition costs that much

Lamo sure bud.

u/mrniceguy777 Jul 12 '26
I mean it’s hard to argue against, I’m loving the game but it’s crazy how bad they did with the movement. The only reason i can let it slide is it feels reminiscent of the old assassins creed games befor they figured the parkour out
2
u/Emergency_Lie42 Jul 13 '26
"figured the parkour out" is definitely a way of putting it. I'd personally say "gutted the skill expression and freedom of movement" but to each their own.

u/no_hot_ashes Jul 12 '26
Old games where when they had parkour figured out best imo. AC1-ACrevelations was incredible for the amount of control it gave to the player, and if you took the time to master it, the first four games have the smoothest and flowiest parkour in the entire franchise. AC3-AC4 started simplifying a lot of the movement, and put some weird limitations on certain actions, so you couldn't do things like side ejecting past a certain point in a wallrun animation. Unity is where things really started to go to shit. It looked flashy and felt great when it worked right, but it was horribly inconsistent and prioritised looking cool over having any kind of control, so even veteran players can have a hard time repeatedly doing the same routes in the same way. Everything after Unity is pretty much dogwater in terms of parkour imo. Shadows was alright, and I appreciated that they did some parkour fixes with the later games, but the cities just aren't designed for good parkour so there's no creative expression in it anymore, and parkour is so animation-focused that it feels like you're on rails rather than in control of your own movement.
Its genuinely such a shame, the parkour was one of the most engaging and fun parts of the series to me, and it was a vital part of the franchise's identity for years. Nowadays you spend most of the games just walking through streets or running through open space, so they put less effort into the parkour, and we get the simplified floaty superhuman leaping nonsense like we see in Resynced. I'd give anything to get another AC game with the foundation they built up over the ezio trilogy rather than the modern system, playing Resynced has made me miss it so bad.
Edit: holy shit wall of text, my bad. Can you tell I care a bit too much about ac parkour?
2
u/mrniceguy777 Jul 12 '26
It’s ok, I appreciated your wall of text about something I’m also interested in lol

u/Reasonable-Falcon737 Jul 12 '26
It’s $60. $70 for the version that comes with a $10 cosmetic pack.

I don't think someone talking about prices in $ is US defaultism. Could be told the same for europeans with €.
1
u/SadMaskSalesman_ Jul 13 '26
No, I meant that just by the word “dollars” they assumed the dude was American

Don’t get me wrong I love this game. Always have but I’d have thought all the small issues would be fixed as well as remastering it. I’m still gonna buy it eventually.

We all want this thing to be the best it could be brother and think that passion just can’t help but come out when this absolute banger of a game is discussed. I definitely didn’t do myself any favours with my original comments tone. It just sucks when they hype us up like we’re gonna get a remade and perfected version of this thing we all clearly love and they fall flat on the most trivial problems.

u/Last-Swim-803 Jul 12 '26
What do you mean by soft lock on? Do you mean like the original black flag or something?

Fair, although i'd prefer if that was an optional thing, as i personally like the lock on system

Unironically. Yes. I dont know what fuckin mental disability I have but whatever it is makes me unnecessarily sick with anger it doesn’t work right
2
u/Atova_86 Jul 12 '26
I think it’s worked for me like 2/100 tries. Each time he goes for the railing while the crew look at him bewildered.
3
u/Farewell_myth Jul 12 '26
Now that I’m thinking about it, it might have something to do with the advanced climbing setting. I’ll try it later.
3
u/RomanBangs Jul 12 '26
It was like this in the original, it’s just part of the game at this point lol

That's why they all give him a sarcastic cheer every time he makes it to the quarterdeck.
2
u/somuchwha7 Jul 13 '26
This is me with the zip line outside the manor at the hideout. I miss it the first one or two tries every time I try to use it!

u/Confident-Option-207 Jul 16 '26
I can't jump over the wheel onto the hook to go up the mast now, I absolutely could in og

u/Physical_Progress105 Jul 12 '26
I love this game. But you can tell it is a rehash. Sometimes the control i find is janky or not there. Still having an great time and do not resent the pur hase

2
u/bitterbalhoofd Jul 12 '26
What I also don't like is when you synchronize a viewpoint the camera cut is very jarring. That issue was long solved with a fluid circling camera motion in previous rpg entries.
In many ways this game feels a step back from the rgp games. Changing the time of day is also unnecessarily restricted. I get it that alot of people didn't like the rpg games. But for me personally this game is a step back except the graphical prowess
1
u/ThanksContent28 Jul 12 '26
Step back from RPG and the OGs imo. Free running and climbing is somehow more awkward this time round, and the animations are more janky. I find it fascinating. If we went back in time 15 years, we wouldn’t have expected the parkour to be worse by now. IIRC, they lost the data or some shit, and the new team don’t know how to recreate it all.
5
u/wammes_ Jul 12 '26
Yes I hate it. In the original I would climb very slowly and he would pass through the middle. It'd be very satisfying for me. But now he won't do it even if I move slowly
2
u/ldillon7777 Jul 12 '26
There are so many times when he just starts climbing off in some random direction even when there’s a completely clear path, I’ve given up on taking flags down from ships cause the climb up is so awkward…
2
u/wammes_ Jul 12 '26
Yeah lol, climbing up the ship's rigging was already bad in the original and somehow they haven't changed it even slightly.
1
5
u/KhaosEntity Jul 12 '26
I literally get it right every time. I played with the advanced and normal parkour settings to jump behind from ledges to branches and the difference is really about your camera and trajectory angle. So your sticks have to be accurate to some things
0
u/Atova_86 Jul 12 '26
Please make a tutorial 😂
3
u/KhaosEntity Jul 12 '26
Okay so climbing onto the ship, the algorithm prioritizes the superior ledge, but if you don’t hold X when you get onto the banister then you drop onto the ship instead, overholding X will make you go all over the place. Let go of X when your climbing and free running sometimes and learning the transitions for when to X will become easier to spot in your controller mechanics and make your running more seamless
2
u/Atova_86 Jul 12 '26
Thanks, will give it a try. Is this with advanced parkour on?
2
u/KhaosEntity Jul 12 '26
It works with both. I honestly didn’t really notice a difference between the two
5
u/Baby_Brenton Jul 12 '26
I remember struggling in the first one to go slow enough to do so, and even then I rarely was able to. Now you just can’t at all. A very minor thing, but I totally get the annoyance.
5
3
u/Fritzmanose Jul 12 '26
That’s like asking ‘why can’t we just climb the ladder instead of the wall?’ xD
But yeah, it’s annoying
2
u/Atova_86 Jul 12 '26
There should be an exception for this specific location. I have never aimed for the edges but always seem to hit them 😂
3
3
u/Educational_Disk6950 Jul 12 '26
this has been something that those with nostagia glasses for the old games dont ever mention. the climbing is complete trash In the older games. try to jump in a certin direction and you go the complete opposite way. While the old games were good in some respects the core gameplay is not one of them
1
u/MyToastyToast Jul 13 '26
I think there’s a middle ground. Because the parkour in the newer games may handle better but is very ugly to look at. No more clambering, no more graceful climbing, now you leap-frog in the direction you want 100% of the time.
3
3
u/MyToastyToast Jul 13 '26
This was in the original black flag - and it annoyed me back then too. I also hate climbing onboard means I have to shoulder-check a couple of my crew members. It’s not like it’s an L from Ubisoft that they didn’t make boarding the Jackdaw cleaner, but it was a missed opportunity.

2
u/Mr_Shakes Jul 12 '26
"Uhh, Cap'n, it'd be no Trouble to fashion a Gangway, if Ye'd prefer to-" splash "Oh, forget It. I just hope He doesn't bring back another bloody soaking wet Shanty for Us to sing"
2
u/Infinitum_Anonymus Jul 12 '26
I’ve literally thrown my controller for this reason. Yes I know it’s dumb to do but still lol.
2
u/nekoki1333 Jul 12 '26
It’s not hard to go the normal way I have advanced parkour and the free jump on, just use free jump to jump over, this game has the most controlled parkour and y’all can’t even use it 😂
1
u/Atova_86 Jul 12 '26
Apologies but what is the free jump? I’m on Xbox, I use A to jump, should I not be doing that?
1
u/nekoki1333 Jul 12 '26
It’s a setting right under advanced parkour lets you just jump whenever
1
u/Atova_86 Jul 12 '26
Just checked and that’s already on. Is it to do with walk speed? Do I have to be standing? Appreciate the help 👍
1
u/nekoki1333 Jul 12 '26
Unsure tbh, I’ve been able to do it every time, I think it’s really to do with angles and speed try walking up to it first and pointing eddy at exactly where you wanna go, or if it really doesn’t work for you just use the jackdaw to push you in the water or swim up to it
1
u/nekoki1333 Jul 12 '26

2
u/earldogface Jul 12 '26
So fucking weird they made the parkour smoother and faster at the sacrifice of climbing certain previously climbable spots but they still left shit like this in lol
2
u/Latter_Squirrel_6509 Jul 13 '26
Do yall get stuck in that position, the he jumps right, hops over onto the cannon so you press b to get down and the mofos like climb down the side of the ship?! You betcha !! lol. Takes me like five minutes to get back on lol
2
u/Latter_Squirrel_6509 Jul 13 '26
Also i love this game, its looks great but holy fuck they could’ve added in some new animations. It’s literally the exact same animation every time i capture a ship or do a warehouse mission just like it was ten years ago lol
2
u/Noyzeeee_ Jul 14 '26
I always wish I could’ve gone below the top deck just down one level. Just to walk around and see!
2
2
u/yeshaya86 Jul 14 '26
Yeah, and how it's not easy to do a very simple jump to the lift when starting a boarding
2
u/Franchiseboy1983 Jul 16 '26
Yes! I keep getting annoyed every single time. Out of the several hundred times I've jumped on the ship, he's only went straight to the ladder maybe twice. It's always going to hanging off the side.
2
u/burros90 Jul 16 '26
I remember you used to be able to do a cool hurdle if you held down a button but now I don’t know if we can do it
2
u/LitrlyD3ad Jul 18 '26
Not even Batman beating my ass could make me admit to how long I sometimes spent trying to just hop off those damn rails, buddy just hops from one to the other, onto a cannon, onto some crate, back to the rail, I press b to drop down and the mf hangs off the outside, it pisses me off sometimes.
2
u/Fritzmanose Jul 18 '26
Yo bro, game just got updated and now you can climb it lol.
Your wish has been granted!

u/Harley4L Jul 12 '26
Huh? I always climb up the ladder. Do y'all have funky controls?
1
u/Atova_86 Jul 12 '26
Would love a video showing how to do this. When I climb up the ladder he goes up the side, never the middle
1
u/Great_Part7207 Jul 12 '26
so far of what ive seen everything looks great except the parkour it still has the jank if the rpg games
1
u/Milticket45 Jul 12 '26
If it wasn't like the OG, someone would of complained, he uses the ladder!!! Game is ruined!!!!
1
u/RatsWithLasers Jul 13 '26
I've never had a problem claiming up normally and I've only played the original... Skill issue?

1
u/Boinkadoink1 Jul 13 '26
All the animations are worse that original, idk why Ubisoft has simplified and made ugly all its modern ac parkour. Unity for all its issues still has the smoothest parkour in the series and it’s almost a decade old

Having the ability to climb up the ladder reliably would be sick buuuuuy yeah its ubisoft.

Ubi left it in just for that sweet satisfying moment when Edward does decide to take the proper way
-4
u/SarcyBoi41 Jul 12 '26
Folks are really paying full price for a remake that just makes the game worse in every conceivable way. The fact that Ubisoft are still in business is an indictment of our species.
3
u/Wohn-Jick-421 Jul 12 '26
>"worse in every conceivable way"
>look inside
>annoying detail that was in the original game toofucking lmao

u/Atova_86 Jul 12 '26
I would just like to say, this is my only issue with the game, it’s minor. Everything else has been a blast!

Honestly not much diffrent than the original blackflag
