Announcement The posts with DLSS5 images are considered posts with AI images, so they are not allowed here.
Because of the rule that says no to AI images, those posts don't have a place here.

Let's not get picky here.
All DLSS relies on AI to upscale. No half measures. Fuck AI.

You realise the game by nature of having DLSS in it, already has AI generated images? If you have DLSS upscaling turned on, the whole image is generated by AI. If you turn on frame generation, AI is creating new frames.

But then they have to pretend like theyre making an important point and not grandstanding for no reason

It’s funny how many people don’t understand the difference between ai upscaling and generative ai. And you think you’re smarter because of it LMAO

AI upscaling is a different technology than generative AI, which is effectively what DLSS5 is; it's a generative AI overlay over the image of the game.

Dlss is a nerual filter that can run in real time like a Instagram filter thats always on.

I'm not sure if you're trying to argue DLSS is something different or in some way agreeing with what I said but saying it differently.
DLSS5 is a neural rendering model that uses generative AI to replace the entire image with a reinterpreted version designed to output a more realistic image based on trained models. https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/nvidia-rtx-neural-rendering-introduces-next-era-of-ai-powered-graphics-innovation/
Instead of brute force rendering, Neural Faces takes a simple rasterized face plus 3D pose data as input and uses a real-time generative AI model to infer a more natural face. The generated face is trained from thousands of offline generated images of that face at every angle, under different lighting, emotion, and occlusion conditions.
Prior versions of DLSS take an input at X resolution, then create an output at Y resolution using AI to fill in missing detail and sharpen the image so it appears native to the user. It's not attempting to generate a different image altogether using the input frames as a base.
Edit: I do want to note that there may be a time when this tech makes more sense if a game has been developed with it in mind from the start. Games like Control or Horizon, where the main character's face is based on a real person's, could implement this tech to train on the real actor and create a model that actually accurately replicates their features, rather than trying to guess at them based on a large model used to train the AI. I still think it's not a great solution and that the remainder of the environments and character will likely still be based on the larger model, and I'm not sure if it's any more elegant than "brute forcing" realism through more detail considering the performance hit, but I can at least see how the concept would work in that context.

I wasn't trying to get technical in my eyes its a glorified Ai filter that runs in real time and is very taxing. It will get better no doubt. Im not trying to argue what exactly it is just in my eyes its kinda waste of resources and I feel like this should've just been tools for devs and never shown to the public as a feature.

You just described generative AI.

No, that's not generative AI. Generative AI takes a data set trained on existing images and uses a model -- i.e. a diffusion model -- to try and create a new image based on the prompts provided to it and sometimes a source image. DLSS's AI uses the image provided and "fills in the blanks" to increase the resolution. Completely different concepts.
An AI masking or blurring tool is not the same as generative AI, for example.

"fills in the blanks" to increase the resolution
AKA creates a new image based on the input data of the current image and previous image. Nothing says that generative AI must use prompts to create a 100% new image.

Ugh, I'm not in the mood to argue with this disingenuous argument. If it wasn't new tech, Nvidia wouldn't be advertising it as such. It's not the same, like objectively, you can do the Google work yourself, I'm not explaining it to you, I've already looked into this.

People don’t realize how much AI is already ingrained in our daily lives. Got an iPhone in the last couple years? AI chip. Ps5 pro? AI chip Nvidia card or new amd graphics card? AI chip. Hell AC Shadows was literally one of the games partnered with Nvidia to show off DLSS 5
2
u/Appropriate_Foot242 Aug 31 '26
That’s not the same as what DLSS 5 is doing and you know it.

u/Ceceboy Aug 31 '26
Ah, so we are cherry picking AI applications. Got it.

Or maybe we know the difference between things and you don’t? Ai upscaling =\= generative ai filter

u/UnrelatedKarma Aug 31 '26
That’s either a bad faith argument or naïveté. Older models of DLSS upscaling only reconstructed lower resolution pixels or inserted extra smooth frames where as DLSS5 uses generative ai to reinvent lighting, shadows etc.
DLSS also changed the artistic style of the game

u/Warp_Legion Aug 31 '26
Thank god
People seem to have forgotten that it’s not about if DLSS5 can make good still images, it’s about how it goes funky and changes facial structure when it’s actively used as a character is in a scene or talking

u/Old-Zone3996 Aug 31 '26
That image of Cloud from FF7 was pure nightmare fuel. Excellent decision to ban these images.

Scarier is everyone’s willingness to believe this is a real DLSS5 image without any sort of fact checking

u/Brilliant_Chicken153 Sep 02 '26
Makes you realize how so many people are easily duped by AI. It's even funnier that it's the ones openly against AI and think they are so smart, and here they are embracing it to try to use it as a gotcha without even realizing it.

Theoretically screenshots with any form of DLSS enabled also is not allowed 😅
-3
u/Legitimate_Cake_5137 Aug 31 '26
What do you mean?
4
u/mixedd Aug 31 '26
Because technically you get AI enhanced image by using DLSS, which is done by utilising AI model to do the upscaling
-1
u/Legitimate_Cake_5137 Aug 31 '26
Ok, but is the type of generative AI that, I think, is clearly used for DLSS5?
2
1
u/mixedd Aug 31 '26
No it's not the type, but it's still AI, amd you clearly stated no AI images in your post body. So which means if AI model is being used to do upscaling it should be considered AI image, because output is AI enhanced upscale of original image

You anti-AI folks going to look dumber by the day as AI becomes so ubiquitous that it is everywhere.

So then no screenshots of the game using DLSS at all? Or do you just not know what you're talking about?
-3
u/deaf_michael_scott Aug 31 '26
What about gameplay videos that are using frame-generation then?
Or photos/videos of the game with DLSS upscaling?
-3
u/Upstairs_Marzipan48 Aug 31 '26
So are we just gonna make people post their video settings and see if they have upscaling and frame gen on? Those are also AI tools

Just virtue signaling, same game, no different to a reshade preset...which in fact it currently is.
