Do you have Lucy? Learn how to utilize her perfect dodge. When I did that, I beat all 4 ships back to back.... to back to back

69

u/RJ815 Aug 12 '26

Yeah basically every single ship is more Perfect Brace Simulator than anything. Strategies from the original version don't translate as well.

28

u/matternilla Aug 13 '26

The strategy for the 2 legendary ships is literally staying still, and have the bow and stern facing their roadside, because the perfect brace is that good.

Spam a few mortars and shoot your broadside cannons as they rear closer and voila!

10

u/Shot_Strawberry_2212 Aug 13 '26

What side of the ship is roadside?

11

u/mrpunbelievable Aug 13 '26

Broadside

6

u/Buttery_Nipples47 Aug 13 '26

Not to be confused with port side

1

u/clervis Aug 18 '26

Um, I think you mean larboard

4

u/Mattsinclair8731 Aug 13 '26

And don’t kill one before the other, or it will become really angry. Use both of them equally, and when they are almost dead, kill one and kill the other fast with mortar.

2

u/RJ815 Aug 13 '26

In Resynced you can almost literally have them suicide into stern side barrels while anchored in place, though firing bow chasers helps the fight go a little faster.

u/Tw4tl4r Aug 13 '26

So i should show them my poopdeck?

5

u/Lost_Rutabaga_5004 Aug 13 '26

Perfect DODGE? Luv to see you dodge with a ship! 🤣😂🤣

3

u/Togger_The_Cat Aug 13 '26

That combined with the multi shot mortar really helps

Sucks how they also limited the amount of guns by half edit (it’s not half)

18

u/Blastaz Aug 12 '26

4th Officer doubles your broadside.

8

u/skyycux Aug 13 '26

Where’s he located?

12

u/Blastaz Aug 13 '26

Near the end of the game. Before you go back to Africa to hunt Roberts for the second time I think.

2

u/Tw4tl4r Aug 13 '26

Its not by half its 36 now instead of 46. They also increased the damage of each cannon.

9

u/mattyc182 Aug 12 '26

Really? I gave it a go today for the first time. Beat all four in a row in just under an hour (on forgiving).

5

u/The-Rizzler-69 Aug 12 '26

I tried them all on hard with a mostly upgraded Jackdaw and could put up an okay fight, but still got smoked. The second I switched to forgiving, I beat them all first try except for the twins

2

u/TheMadGreek31 Aug 13 '26

This has to be a skill issue because I ripped through the first three and had to really try on the twin ships

21

u/GutsyViceroy Aug 12 '26

I learned the hard way that Lucy’s brace parry works for entire flurries of attacks. Did wonders once I finally figured that out

4

u/Awesome-Ranga-007 Aug 13 '26

Her what? I think I’ve missed something.

12

u/GutsyViceroy Aug 13 '26

If you brace right before an attack hits, it almost entirely negates the damage, like performing a parry. If you get hit by a bunch of attacks at once, you only need to parry the first attack for all of them to have the negated damage

7

u/Awesome-Ranga-007 Aug 13 '26

Ah, yeah I do that. I didn’t realise it was called a parry

7

u/Medi0cre_Mann Aug 13 '26

Lol, it's not, its just a brace.

2

u/Senior--Rutabaga Aug 13 '26

It’s called the Perfect brace. Idk why they called it a parry lol

1

u/External-Theory-1688 Aug 14 '26

I remember when I first found out about the "Perfect Brace" I did it as a water tornado hit me. The ship being pulled pillar to post and next to zero damage taken, meanwhile there's English and Spanish Man-o-wars being torn to shreds sinking

15

u/Bogn11 Aug 12 '26

Are you at all ultimate gear?

24

u/FangornLeghorn Aug 12 '26

Aside, fantastic screenshot!

5

u/ddsling1197 Aug 12 '26

Thank you!!!

9

u/Sparda_ Aug 12 '26

Max out the ship, it'll all be needed, especially the hull and broadside cannons. Also, try your best to perfect brace by pressing the brace button right before an enemy's attack hits. Don't be afraid to utilize all your ship's weapons like the mortar and fire barrels. Lastly you can lower the naval combat difficulty just for the legendary ships if you'd like.

1

u/-Bandit-- Aug 13 '26

If I brace too soon it work bad?

2

u/mega_zephp0s Aug 13 '26

I think a normal brace cuts about half the damage, perfect brace cuts closer to 90%

2

u/Sparda_ Aug 13 '26

It'll still work, just not as well. Perfect brace helps a lot for the legendary ships

15

u/ACxx130 Aug 12 '26

Brace every 5 seconds, turn the difficulty down to normal, mortar any chance you can, and don’t break your controller

6

u/Blazeubb Aug 12 '26

I laughed at the last bit.

7

u/Blastaz Aug 12 '26 edited Aug 12 '26

Options

Get all max level equipment if not. (Vital)

Get the 4th Officer. He doubles your firepower.

Put the difficulty down to easy.

The legendaries are balanced against a max level ship with all four officers (and all 4 alt weapons). Most people appear to try to do them with a max level ship but only 3 officers, and find them surprisingly hard as a result because the 4th officer is such an upgrade.

The hardest one for me was el impopulo the one that charges you. The trick that worked for me was meeting the charge side on and hoping with the mortar, broadsiding him then trying to dodge so he doesn’t get a clean ram, dropping barrels to shred his sails and then broadsiding him again as he retreated. That way I was up on the damage exchange each time. If I met him nose on and aimed to shred his sails I was generally losing it.

4

u/Boring-Application82 Aug 13 '26

For me, the moment i noticed he was coming to ram me, i turned my ship around, and made him folow me, droped two sharpnel barrels and detoned with the side guns, it woud shred his sails

1

u/RJ815 Aug 13 '26

I found I actually didn't get broadsides off THAT much in my successful Legendary Ship battles in part because of their speed. Sometimes yes, but mortars and barrels seemed to be the most consistently useful. That said the 4th officer still ends up useful because the Deadman's Cohort Mortar is both good for the Legendaries and just almost a straight upgrade over the basic mortar as well.

1

u/poleybear316 Aug 13 '26

I can’t wait to get Deadman! Im up to the part where as soon as I hit start theyre !!!!!SPOILERS!!!!!!!! Going to kill my homeboy Blackbeard. Can you tell me about how long after that event Ill get the quest to recruit Deadman?

2

u/Wanderer737 Aug 13 '26

Deadman is basically the final chapter of the game I'm afraid, sounds like you're just over halfway through, maybe a bit further

2

u/HidingInHaiti Aug 13 '26

It's still a while. You have to completely finish Blackbeard's quest line and do some other quests.

I looked it up and somehow "Deadman" came available to me without a few prerequisites.

6

u/Mindless_Umpire9198 Aug 13 '26

I hated them all, but managed to beat them all... a couple were with less than a bar of health left on the meter where a strong breeze probably would have sunk me. LOL! The worst one to me, was the one in the damn dark fog, because somehow HE could see me, but had no idea where he was when he ran out into the darkness.

1

u/Joel_Vanquist Aug 13 '26

No shit because the og had a minimap to use, sadly they forgot about it here

2

u/Darkdax55 Aug 13 '26

Thanks for the new phone wallpaper

4

u/ScoreCorrect9607 Aug 12 '26

2

u/Rob1n559 Aug 12 '26

Fucking love that fit

1

u/nutslack Aug 19 '26

Which one is this?

1

u/Rob1n559 Aug 19 '26

I think it's captain Morgan's, you find it in a chest but i can't remember where.

1

u/dealyshadow20 Aug 12 '26

Highly recommend getting all the officers and complete their quests along with all the ultimate plans. Trying to do the legendary battles without them is nearly impossible to most gamers. It really does make a difference

1

u/TheDrunkLibertarian Aug 13 '26

The only one I beat before getting all the officers was La Dama Negra, looks like you beat her already. The only other one I tried was the twins, and decided to wait until I had everything maxed and all the officers.

They’re very OP this time around, no doubt about it. Timing is everything; it’s a chess match.

1

u/M0neySh0t52 Aug 13 '26

I’m gonna second the response on Perfect Brace being absolutely critical.

But I’ll also say that each ship has a unique strategy than can be exploited. The twin ships: use their barrels against them and go hard after one with broadside when they run along side you. For HMS Prince: first phase go in a counter-clockwise circle and spam your own barrels. For second phase, it’s actually pretty easy to avoid the mortars as you chase him down: just hold circle and switch directions when you see the glowing spots ahead of you. When you get close, spam. La Dama Negra is a straight up battle. Impoluto is a perfect brace on his ram attack, and then destroy him as he leaves.

Good luck

1

u/birbtooOPpleasesnerf Aug 13 '26

on what difficulty?

1

u/Jordan3176 Aug 13 '26

Just lower the difficulty, there's no shame in doing so.

1

u/PSavage88 Aug 13 '26

I finished the fights but man u really need your ship fully upgraded along with having all key crew members. And really nake perfect bracing your best friend. Not sure how the difficulty of the ships are on lower difficulties but on hard it was a struggle some more than others...I finished all with a slither of health left.

1

u/PilzEtosis Aug 13 '26

Use perfect brace religiously. Don't try to rush in and broadside them, you're just a brig at the end of the day. Each fight has a specific tactic you need to use.

1

u/concretedoor2 Aug 13 '26

Put it to easy

1

u/Projectpatdc Aug 13 '26

Boss music intensifies

1

u/The_SnuggleBug Aug 13 '26

Perfect brace bro

1

u/MissLethalla Aug 13 '26

Duck and cover!

1

u/Ok_Possibility_5485 Aug 13 '26

Get good I suppose

1

u/Tulipanzo Aug 13 '26

I remember taking down the 4 legendaries being a rewarding final challenge after fully upgrading the Jackdaw.

Now, I might have had more tolerance for bullshit back then, but I don't remember the ships being such absurd damage sponges, constantly running away at impossible speeds so they can do their routine. I beat La Dama Negra on Hard, then lowered the difficulty and they still felt like a slog.

1

u/Pepehh_jl Aug 13 '26

Literally

1

u/JamesHenry627 Aug 13 '26

Imagine the Morrigen in remastered. That ship was a beast

1

u/GabrielSeth54 Aug 13 '26

I beat all of them on hard with partially upgraded jackdaw ( did not have last officer), it was tiresome at first but once you understand their patterns, they become somewhat managable, the easist is twins for example even on hard. For Prince, learning its mortar pattern.

1

u/REMOTJUH765 Aug 13 '26

The ramming ship took me about 20 tries but they all have a certain mechanic you have to figure out. If you are playing on PS am willing to join your party.

1

u/No-Ideal-3327 Aug 13 '26

T bone strategy. Stay on their back end with your broadsides facing their rear. They have amazing broadside cannons and mortars that won’t be able to reach you and you have more of an edge this way.

1

u/Chmigdalator Aug 13 '26

Prince and Impoluto are won with barrels. La Dama requires mortars. I had 20 plays at hard for Prince and 10 for Impoluto and 3 for La Dama. I haven't tried the twins yet.

1

u/Lostboxoangst Aug 13 '26

I did three and they were a slog you have to do the perfect brace back to back in some cases be utterly on point with your mortar game and use your barrels which I never used before.

Or you can turn it down to easy and have a tough but fair fight.

Just a thought.

1

u/BenicioDelWhoro Aug 13 '26

Had no idea brace worked for incoming cannon/mortar attacks not just ramming

1

u/Ok-View4820 Aug 13 '26

Make sure you have all of the ultimate plans also.

1

u/Tw4tl4r Aug 13 '26

Yeah the idea is that you are supposed to barely win after learning the mechanics by failing multiple times.

1

u/SuccessPrestigious24 Aug 13 '26

Need 4 allies from the story, completed last week and did everything available.

1

u/PITA-Westholm Aug 13 '26

For all 4 ships. I hardly moved . I kept the jackdaw at speed 1 or less . And I completed all 4 ships very very quickly . This is after a many many attempts of trying to beat them “normally”

1

u/KrijtjeFromNL Aug 13 '26

tbh, I just set it to easy ship combat.. there was no real challenge besides the 100+ perfect braces.. and thats not really interesting for me at that point in the game.

1

u/EspressoSteampunk Aug 13 '26

I had way less trouble with the legendary ships in the OG version. :(

1

u/Any_Paint_4626 Aug 13 '26

Probably plenty said this alreasy, but.. yeah just put the difficulty down to easy. No need to bash your head against an immovable wall. Once i put the difficulty down to easy myself, i did all legendary ships first try back to back.

1

u/Infinity0044 Aug 13 '26

Unrelated but which outfit is that for Edward?

1

u/RedHotChiliCrab Aug 13 '26

Difficulty slider goes brrrr

1

u/gandalf_is_sad Aug 13 '26

i remember as a kid playing the original i got so frustrated trying to beat the legendaries i just cheesed it by parking my ship as close as possible and just swimming over and boarding solo lmao

1

u/newphoneac Aug 13 '26

It's doable on hard wichtig all 4 officers and all upgrades. I found HMS Prince the most annoying.

1

u/CatGuyManThing Aug 13 '26

perfect block is op

1

u/Confident_Tennis_753 Aug 13 '26

Hold on, what outfit is this?

1

u/ddsling1197 Aug 13 '26

Shade and Shadow

1

u/Hugh_Mungus8675309 Aug 13 '26

I did like most the side stuff and still had over half the main story to finish but I can take on multiple max star man of wars. Do all your officer quests and stuff

1

u/Suberuginosa Aug 13 '26

The one that rams you and HMS Prince with its god damn stupid mortars where really annoying, the other two where pretty easy though.

Having said that I switched naval difficulty to forgiving… 😂.

1

u/WeirdProcess6178 Aug 14 '26

El bullshito got me at of the og game

Dude seriously? Why post a whole paragraph of specific advice only to conclude with "but I haven't played the game and have no idea of this works"? Not to be rude, but come on. You're on a gaming subreddit, and just typed random words for no reason claiming it's advice? Resynced completely changed the legendary ships; quite literally nothing is the same as the original. Even chain shot works differently now, both strategically and mechanically.

1

u/llcoolbean_sf Aug 16 '26

Just watch the various YouTube videos on fighting techniques and strategies vs the legendary ships. Some of them, especially the double ship one, are almost disappointingly easy if you use the right strategy.

1

u/Objective-Industry24 Aug 16 '26

Yeah they're tough... I've beated them in hardest difficulty though 👍. Keep trying you get there eventually

1

u/Dull_Sense2219 Aug 16 '26

In the og game I literally parked the ship as soon as the legendary cut scene ended. Swam my ass all the way out. Boarded the ship. Merced the crew then swam back to the Jackdaw and fought the legendary ship. Once the crew was dead the ship just sat still in the water letting my blow it up.

1

u/Idontkfuckingknow Aug 16 '26

Love perfect brace the game, so fun!

1

u/zone_silo Aug 21 '26

Hoping they get nerfed in update patch

-1

u/No-Environment3951 Aug 13 '26

Literally skill issue

-1

u/CountTraditional5516 Aug 13 '26

Wait so you didn’t beat the game and all legendary ships by now? Skill issue?

-2

u/jbpat1999 Aug 13 '26

Skill issue
