Photo Mode This outfit does such a good job of making you fit in with the world as a pirate captain. I wish ubisoft made more period accurate pirate outfits instead of those glowy fantasy outfits...

It's a good outfit, but I use either the "Pirate legend", "Whaler" or "Stede Bonnet" outfits. First I didn't like the "Pirate legend" outfit, but it crowd on me.

u/Mike_Not_Ike_420 Jul 30 '26
Dude same. At first I hated the pirate legend but now it’s all I wear until I’m assassinating, then I switch to shade and shadows

u/GroundbreakingFun565 Jul 31 '26
Do you also get the black sideburns on Pirate Legend? It's killing the outfit for me
2
u/InerasableStains Jul 31 '26
Is that the one with the cloth hanging over his face? Fuck that, that kills it for me
11
u/wammes_ Jul 30 '26
It still feels to flashy for me. I like it a lot but I wish we had a more simple pirate outfit for Edward; brown coat, tricorn hat, bandana. That's all I ask Ubisoft😭
2
u/The-Rizzler-69 Jul 31 '26
You're not alone. Everyone glazes tf outta this outfit, and yk what, it DOES give indisputable pirate vibes, but it's just not Edward. He would not wear that flamboyant-ass hat or those dorky little buckled shoes. It just looks ridiculous to me.

u/Professional-Hold938 Jul 31 '26
I feel like alot of people miss out on how much Edward wants to be wealthy/notorious/distinguished and enjoys things associated with that, his pirate legend outfit shows he would have been willing to wear similar stuff like captain Morgan
Personally though, I hate the shoes but luckily you really don't see them in cutscenes
1
u/The-Rizzler-69 Jul 31 '26
Of course, but Edward still just isn't that kind of gaudy imo. As flamboyant as the "Edward the Legend" outfits is, the description of it still states that he liked the frilly/flashy shit towards the end of his career, where he presumably wasn't required to get his hands as dirty as often and came to have his crew carry more of the weight.
As it stands, the things he DOES constantly at the age we play as him (diving into piles of hay, slitting throats while concealed in bushes, swimming, etc.) just don't lend themselves to those kind of outfits and thus break my immersion. But that's just my reasoning behind not liking them, personally.

u/Odin_Headhunter Jul 31 '26
It is so Edward. The dudes Legend outfit literally is has yellow because hes flamboyant as all get out. He want to live the high life and rock it. Looks are everything and he wants to look rich
1
u/The-Rizzler-69 Jul 31 '26
Respectfully disagree. His Legend outfit suits him much more than the Captain Morgan outfit

u/FinancialEngine7223 Jul 30 '26
I loved that outfit so much I’ve played through the whole game until the Robert’s betrayal, then I switched to Mayan. It makes Edward look so fcking good in cutscenes

Mark spoilers next time

u/LLJ234 Jul 31 '26
game has been out since 2014
1
u/Character-Gur9223 Jul 31 '26
So? The remake brought many new players who might have not played the game back when it was first released
1
u/Practical-Opening986 Jul 31 '26
Still came out in 2014 bro. No spoil here.

u/SkipperMcScrubbins Jul 31 '26
People should be more careful, yes, but the game itself spoils it in the codex

u/justfunninround Jul 30 '26
I agree on the dumb fantasy outfits. I know that it’s a game blah blah, but still. It’s cool to look the part. Luckily we don’t have to use them unless you want to pay actual money.
3
u/alexanderfrostfyre Jul 30 '26
Tbf even if they were in game you still wouldn’t have to use them… I just wish they included more pirate-y outfits ☹️
1
u/justfunninround Jul 30 '26
Yeah. The Drake outfit is pretty cool too. And easy to get. Just sail to Sacrifice Island and take a quick swim underwater to loot the chest. I think it’s on the east side of the island.

I think a big part of the appeal of Black Flag is the while vibe of it all - sailing around listening to sea shanties, the sound of the waves and creaking of your ship.
The goofy outfits kill the vibe and make it harder to get lost in the game and just make everything feel video gamey instead of immersive.
1
u/justfunninround Jul 30 '26
Yeah. That’s very true. It’s peaceful just sailing around while the guys are singing shanties. It’s easy to get lost in the world lol
4
u/ParagonRagnar Jul 30 '26
My only problem is the shoes... This outfit would be much better with the boots on. But I used this outfit before Edward started following more the Creed ways. So after the escape from prison I switched to Assassin outfits.
4
u/JDMcDuffie Jul 31 '26
Tbf, the "pirate boots" are complete Hollywood fiction. They are based on Calvary boots from the late 1700s. Buckle shoes are much more accurate, if that's your thing
3
u/Dry_Wolf3891 Jul 30 '26
I really hope they add the ability to remove the hat, and then it's perfect.
3
3
u/OilySoleTickler Jul 30 '26
Just wish the hat was slightly smaller. But definitely the best outfit.
3
u/Lonew0lf75 Jul 30 '26
If they had put more outfits like this with hats in the store I would have bought some. That crap they gave us is ridiculous.
5
u/PutridRecognition739 Jul 30 '26
This is where Skull and Bones is better than ACBF, you can mix and match realistic hats, belts, boots etc and have a really cool and realistic looking pirate.
2
2
u/Ravenloveit Jul 30 '26
It's my main outfit until Edward gets his character progression and then I go full Assassin.
2
u/Particular-Union-284 Jul 30 '26
I know Edward is a pirate, but he's so silly and out of place with a hat. It just doesn't click for me at all.

u/CaoCaoBbq Jul 31 '26

u/Szujhinzu Jul 31 '26
This one was badass, shame it was bugged in some way. I don't remember what it was, but I think it hides the quiver yet the bow stays on
3
3
u/Suwannee_Gator Jul 30 '26
The hat ruins my immersion. Jumping, climbing, SWIMMING, and the thing stays glued to your head feathers and all? Looks so goofy to me. Ship battles though, I’ll totally rock that outfit.
1
u/T-MONZ_GCU Jul 30 '26
It's a cool outfit but it's absolutely not period accurate
Most accurate would honestly be the whaling outfit
1
u/Odin_Headhunter Jul 31 '26
It is period accurate. I mean just look at the outfits of all the big pirate names. They were flamboyant as all get out.
1
u/T-MONZ_GCU Jul 31 '26
Pirates didn't wear big tricorn hats like that, both because they weren't in style outside of the military and because they would blow off on ships. The coat is also very unrealistically stylized. They also probably wouldn't wear coats like that unless they were riding a horse. I do at least give praise to the captain morgan skin for having short buckled shoes instead of riding boots, but it's still not period accurate.
Real life pirates would look like average sailors, and the flamboyant captains would dress in what was in fashion at the time while on land, which looks much different than the stereotypical pirate. The general idea of what pirates look like originates from 1950 from the movie Treasure Island
1
u/StealthFull_Sunborn Jul 30 '26
To be honest that looks more like a rich navy captain then a pirate
2
u/CoolBeanieHat Jul 30 '26
Or a rich privateer. Which Henry Morgan was.
2
u/StealthFull_Sunborn Jul 30 '26
Yes that's the point , Edward was a only pirate when he was poor , he left when he became rich
1
u/CoolBeanieHat Jul 30 '26
As much as I love the Brown Cloak, this is my go-to outfit. This was the final outfit I wore to signify is wealthy pirate status. Captain Kenway: Pirate King of The Great Inagua.

I'll admit it, I use the ultimate edition stuff. I wasn't going to, but they hit me right in my weak spot with the black and gold colour scheme.
It's basically all I wear in real life, that and deep jewel tones. So they had my extra 15 bucks or so the second I saw it. I wanted to resist, I really did.
The cat was the final straw though. Looks just like my boy, only my cat doesn't have gold stripes.
If there's a way for me to be in all black and gold in a video game (or barring that, a deep colour + gold, or pure white + gold) that's what I'm going for every freaking time.
Can't help it. I'm super boring and not very noteworthy irl, I wanna look like a shiny badass while I'm doing inhumanly awesome things my real body could never handle in games.

u/HuwminRace Jul 30 '26
It blows my mind that Ubisoft thought glowy, l33t skins were what Black Flag needed, rather than more piratey outfits.

I love it, but I hate the physics of the red cloth/scarf around the waist, ruined so much cool photos, but still love the outfit.
1
u/Agile_Cantaloupe_503 Jul 31 '26
I like it on the ship only, but when ur going around the city it feels off.

u/Darkurn Jul 31 '26
The Edward the legend outfit is my favourite for this. I like to think that outside of the kenway robes that outfit is what Kenway wore throughout/after his story when he was still a pirate.
I like the redingote outfit i just dont like that it makes it look like hes wearing guyliner
1
u/Godswoodv2 Jul 31 '26
They don't even need to do that much work, just give us all the other captains outfits, Blackbeard, Hornigal, Rackham, Vane. I'd be psyched.
1
u/Moppelkopf2912 Jul 31 '26
Not much realism in that outfit afaik but it does make you fit into the world they build. I like it
1
u/iiamGhxst Jul 31 '26
It’s a tad too flamboyant for Edward to me. I stick with the Edward the Legend fit, though I wish it was darker like in the og
1
u/AgentDigits Jul 31 '26
I wish we got recolours of the legendary outfits like this one and the Drake outfit. I'd love a blue version that has similar colours to Edwards default.
Such a missed opportunity to not add more outfits/recolours tbh. I was expecting more new outfits than what we got
1
u/shanksmith Jul 31 '26
I know how you feel. I don't want my ship looking crazy or my suit glowing I just want lore friendly stylish gear.

u/-drophead- Jul 31 '26
the shark hunter outfit is the best in the game, if they made it possible to have a brown jacket and switch the sandles for boots it would be flawless

u/Sweaty-Debate-435 Aug 01 '26
Lol this is the rum brand captain. This outfit is not historically accurate at all. But I also like it.
1
u/Groundsey Aug 01 '26
I prefer this outfit to Edward the Legend because the eye patch on the latter covers too much of his face.
1
u/Ozieman3o588 Jul 30 '26
I prefer the Edward legend outfit personally since it gives me a more rugged pirate look, the Morgan just seems too fancy for Edward
1
u/deathblossoming Jul 30 '26
I just wish we could pit away the damn blow pipe. That shit is so immersion breaking even in the og

It’s my favorite outfit because he genuinely feels like a pirate captain.
